  • In the winter of 1943, with America at war, Pastor Fritz Otto Evers and the choir of Zion Church in Baltimore recorded an uplifting and hopeful "Christmas Message From Home."
Pressed onto one side of 78 r.p.m. RCA vinyl discs, the records were distributed to members of the congregation who were in the armed services.
It is unknown how many of these records were sent out, but at least two copies survive.
Listeners will notice that Pastor Evers speaks with a strong German accent. This is especially important when one considers the time and the place in which the message was recorded.
In the 1940s, Zion was an all-German-speaking congregation, and as such, they were under surveillance by the FBI.
