In case there are other gear/synth geeks out there wondering what they're playing: Emma: Yamaha Reface YC (top), Korg minilogue (bottom) Nathan: Casio CasioTone 405 Alex: Arturia MicroFreak
I have discovered so much music from them since I was introduced to them in 2015. I have even seen a couple bands/artists and try to every chance I can
Totally. Probably every band I found in the last 2 years have been a result of and world wide shutdown + this UA-cam channel. The thing besides the great music is that it's filmed, edited, and shot so well and the audio is incredible. Plus, you know, Cheryl.
KEXP and NPR introduce me to so many awesome bands I can’t even keep up. It makes me sad when I hear my friends and family say there’s no good music anymore. I’m like, have you tried looking? It’s not hard to find!
whoever says “Stereolab!” like it’s a bad thing is an idiot. when they came out in the 90s they harkened back to sounds 30 years prior to them like 60s pop. God forbid these guys do the same and harken back to the sounds of yesteryear 30-60 years and add their own, new twist to it. and own Casios. Who wouldn’t? synth drones fucking rule. Tim gane is a noted record collector and people ripped on them back in the day because you could just tell from his own music how much he loved stuff you had to hunt down at a record store back in the day like Bacharach and Gilberto and velvet underground. Nothing wrong with that. Same with these guys. It’s awesome to hear how much they love the records that they do from the velvet underground or neu! Or laraaji or Stereolab. Letting your influences be known is an awesome thing. Like what dummy said at the end: these artists are under-appreciated and their music should be known to a wider audience. so kudos to these guys for helping carry their sounds and style on to the next generation to enjoy. And hopefully these guys’ music lives on in 50, 100+ years like the bands they’re citing. We need our great great grandchildren listening to the Velvet underground.
This music drifts me away to visualising me & my dearest Tommy RIP (from Liverpool,England) Drift away holding hands up in space lost in space & time for eternity like foolish teenagers. I miss you so much sweetheart. This ones for you. ❤Honeybee from Anaheim California
Just saw these guys open for horsegirl and they blew me away-- huge sound, very pretty but loud as hell. won me over immediately-- see them live if you can!!
I'm suddenly blasted back 20+ years to my late teens, listening to twee-influenced indie pop/rock like The Anniversary, Mates of State, Rainer Maria ... great stuff!
Its sooo great to hear music like this! I don't compare bands because its so myopic and lazy. Yes I grew up with the likes of The Anniversary but to Dummy's credit, they are giving us something different! I will be adding this to my Snowboarding playlist for sure. LOVE THIS!!!!
Dummy is blowing up i remember listening to their first ep when it came out on pop wig. one of the dudes actually made me a playlist cause they were shouting out so many really cool bands.
Wow! Joe dont know if you remember me Kyle from the band I'd Rather Die. We used to play with ur band Methal Orange back in the day. Your band is sick glad ur doing well
@KEXP, Would it be possible to compartmentalize the video? (Example: From 2 to 4 minutes, describe the name of the music from 4 to 6 minutes: presentation of the artists etc) ? Most of all, thanks a lot for you hard work and for all the new artists I could discover thanks to you !
Saw them open for Luna recently in LA and they were great and I hate everyone!. A bit too clean in this performand they were far more heavy and distorted than this at the Luna show. IMO much better when dirty and distored and less clean. A bit too "nice" in this performance. Good though :)
ok band, but god it's very funny how they complain about homogenization when they are the most obvious bland Stereolab rip off. it's not bad (second song in particular is real good), but they sound exactly the kind of shit in my "Spotify discover weekly" they are talking shit on
In the comments: haters who are pretentious music snobs who probably don't contribute to their music scene in the video: friends having the time of their life playing music influenced by bands that influenced them
Right, Gary, because what the world actually needs is another one man acoustic rendition of whipping post. So glad you've got your finger on the pulse. Where would we be without your consummate wisdom and sophisticated opinions?
@@devinflynn7269 Heh heh. Gary's pissed because KEXP doesn't respond to all the audition videos he sends of him playing classic rock covers in front of his refrigerator.
That's my brother Joe playing the guitar! He's been playing music his whole life. So happy for him, following his dreams!
Wow
He made it to Stockholm tonight, he broked two strings midshow but managed to finish the set like a legend!
That’s so cool!!

Dummy is the best band in LA. I’ve seen them 3 times now and every set has been absolutely incredible. Don’t miss the chance to see them live!
nice. So if you saw them 3 times, didnt you felt they seemed a little bit uncomfortable ? in the end of the first song mainly
KEXP is really introducing me to some great artists I would have never found otherwise.

Ride , Stereolab ... Nice 👏
LOVE the vintage Casio! I had a few Casios, in the 80s, including the SK-1 Sampling keyboard...wish I'd kept them.
WOW! Tight as hell! I kinda love them! That drummer! So so good! You have a new fan Dummy!
Hell yea! Agreed
It's days like these when I'm thankful for KEXP! Actually, I'm thankful for KEXP every day. Dummy is awesome! Great discovery!
Great drumming!
facts. my man is putting in that work the entire session
My thoughts exactly! That drummer!!!!
Agree amazing drummer
Alex Ewell
I'm suddenly blasted back 20+ years to my late teens, listening to twee-influenced indie pop/rock like The Anniversary, Mates of State, Rainer Maria ... great stuff!
This band is no where near The Anniversary or Mates of State

I'm just under 2 minutes in and I'm beaming, this is so fun!
Saw them play in redding and they are genuinely one of the most insane live bands out rn
"Mom can we Stereolab?"
"We have Stereolab at home"
Stereolab at home:
“Mom can we make sure all of my musical references come directly from Spotify?”
Mom: done
Dummy is blowing up i remember listening to their first ep when it came out on pop wig. one of the dudes actually made me a playlist cause they were shouting out so many really cool bands.
Whole session gave me goosebumps but ESPECIALLY at 15:05
Joe feedbacking his guitar at 15:15... epic 😳
Thanks Dummy. No spoon feeding - just mainline it to us. Keep it going!
Stereolab!! ⭐
Looks like fun. Wishing you guys well.
Wow Atonal Poem is such a great song!!! Was flashed by that closing track, whole session was great :) keep it up thanks for that!
Mind = blown all over the wall 🤯🤯
Really cool, thanks for this music!!!
Trouble In Mind strikes again! The best label around right now.
Great fuckin band - great album - killing it completely
I need this CASIO now!
Wow! Joe dont know if you remember me Kyle from the band I'd Rather Die. We used to play with ur band Methal Orange back in the day. Your band is sick glad ur doing well
DUMMY FTW!!!!
Too early but staying for good music
Why does final weapon have this HUGE earthbound vibes ? I love it
So good ♥
I was looking for Portishead's Dummy album but this sounds cool too.
Good stuff!!
Great set!
So good. Thanks a lot !)
Love 🥰
❣
Que maravilha!
Sounds great

@23:20 haha actually my algorithm/Discover Weekly is in a great place, showing me bands like Dummy and other cool weird shit
Dummy opening for Snail Mail tonight at Music Box here in San Diego. Very excited. I am sure they are smart, not like people say. 🙃
❤️❤️❤️❤️
ngl thought i was listening to Stereolab
Don't understand all the hate these guys are sick
Reminiscent of classic UK indie band Mighty Lemon Drops ...
Saw them open for Luna recently in LA and they were great and I hate everyone!. A bit too clean in this performand they were far more heavy and distorted than this at the Luna show. IMO much better when dirty and distored and less clean. A bit too "nice" in this performance. Good though :)
Good sound and music! Drums sounds very cool
What was the band they mentioned at @16:59 ? Couldn’t make out what they said
Laraaji
Hoy en Barcelona
No
Are you supposed to not hear the vocals clearly?
Crank up the vocals.
Not the first band KEXP has hid the vocals. Poor transition from studio to internet?
indeed , this is so STEREOLAB
reminds me of StereoLab
Id like kexp to invite TOY...
Turn up the vocals
Yeah, seems a bit odd.
@@yello33 Except for the vocals on this performance.
It is by band's choice! You'll hear a similar mix on their own studio-recorded album.
@@kexp Good to know thanks!
This blows
move along
They're really good esp atonal poem and i agree with a good amount of what they're saying but holy shit they are pretentious...
too bad this all didnt occur BE/fORE the end of the world... oops
Yes, good band playing together, but maybe need to breakaway a bit from the Stereolab-ish slipstream?
Too much chat
Stereo lab cover band
hi I only know bands that Spotify forces me to listen to so I will now pretend I am a scholar
IDK I’m getting more of a Sarah Records vibe. 🤷♀️

the point they are making is organically finding music instead relying on the algorithm
When does the music start?
In the comments:
haters who are pretentious music snobs who probably don't contribute to their music scene
in the video:
friends having the time of their life playing music influenced by bands that influenced them
Keyboard too loud
And singing too quiet
They are nice but too much Stereolab in there .
Interesting that they felt it wasn't necessary to have someone who can sing in the band.
Thank you. Somebody had to say it. Everything about this group just rubs me the wrong way. It's like they sweat pretense.
Sometimes its good to use autotune
The music is way too overpowering and vocals too soft are off key. - whoever the sound-person is, they did a shitty job on balancing things out.
Guitar player only knows how to play 2 chords it seems.
It's called branding. If he learns more chords they will lose their sound ; ) ha!
there are at least 6-7 chords in this set
Shocking... Not for me sorry
These people have no self respect
I have to know… what part of this very tame set made you think that?
nerd
Another laughably bad band! KEXP searches the world over to bring you the worst “music” on earth, and by golly, they succeed!
No need to be such a Negative Nancy!
Turned me on to All Them Witches, forever grateful.
I would say the complete opposite.. they’ve shared the best music with the best sound engineers and DJ’s.
