- A new acquisition: the TRS-80 Color Computer 2.
Also known as Radio Shack Color Computer 2 and Tandy Color Computer 2.
First, we'll take a look at the new acquisition, but coming soon: mods, hacks, toys and more!
Warm up the CRT, it's time for another episode!

my very first PC ever. I was 12 or 13 when my parents bought it for me. It's what got me into the tech life that I live now.
My first computer was a Coco 1...still have it too!
Probably one of the greatest gifts that my mother ever gave me! I still have mine in the attic. I need to dig it out and give it a once over. It saw some abuse back in the day but was working when it was finally put away, somewhere around the late '80s. I'm glad that I ran across this video. Made my heart smile for the entire nostalgic 5 minutes!
I just this month acquired my first coco2 as well. It's been fun cleaning it up, retro-brighting and upgrading it.
They are nifty little machines!
Fun fact: if you have ever read the Nigel for Ready Player One, this was James Halliday's first gaming computer.
Glad to see the video I have been waiting to see the system working. We had a recent Retro Computer Group meet here in FL and there was several CoCo's both 2's and 3's.
Hey, sorry about the delay! Thanks for working with me to get the CoCo up here. And stay tuned, there's more to come.
Hours upon hours playing The dungeons of Dagaroth I remember it well
my first puter was a coco 1 64k mod str8 from radioshack
Recently picked up a Trs 80 coco 1 in perfect mint condition, almost never used. Was like time traveling back to 1982.
Multi-paks are rare, so that's a good find.
Thanks. A viewer found it in Florida and shipped to me in Ohio.
I still have it
I am guessing... that DIsk you were trying to read "may" be OS9 and thus will not display the contents of the directory correctly try typing DOS at the command prompt or simply an * and hitting enter
It would not initialize new disks at all using built in commands. I didn't put it in the video because it's boring, but I futzed around with the thing for about 8 hours. Cleaning, calibrating, reseating- you name it. I'm fairly certain the cartridge adapter is just faulty.
I learned to write my first code on a coco2 64K in the 80's. I Loved it! No disk drive so I used cassette tapes to store my programs and games I wrote (all typed in by hand lol) .
Good to finally have another video from you. Missed them!
Me too! Things always get in the way. Two more about the CoCo, return to the JCM-1 and maybe a music video (?) on the way.
interesting.. the computer from 1984 and the Floppy drive controller from 82 or 83.. you should disable the interupt signal going to the cartridge slot so you can transfer cartridge based applications to tape. Any cassette drive will work. Once on tape you can reload them into memory and transfer them to floppy. You have to remember the application will normally try to load itself into memory where the cartridge was occupied. The 6809 used position independent code so the program can be forced to load and run anywhere in usable memory. Keep on rockin.
It is still a TSR-80 as in MC6'80'9e
How do I copy and paste a basic program from a book or magazine into xroar or vcc ?? Many thanks
I honestly don't know. Maybe someone else following this comment does?
@@JoesComputerMuseum hello just thought of it because typing it all in takes many hours thanks
Still got mine...
thats an upgraded keyboard..I replaced mine also..the coco 1 was upgradeable to 64k. you just had to know how..Check your ram with the memory command you’ll see 32k..theres a reason for that. Also the extended basic rom takes up some of the memory map as well..usable ram is shared with video graphics memory giving you 32k unless you specify otherwise. At least thats how it works on the coco 1.
Given a multi-pak was included with the system, it's possible that was the cause of the original 6809 failing. I have heard stories of the multi-pak getting bumped and misaligned so that traces touch voltages they shouldn't, taking out the CPU. I, personally, never had this problem with my CoCos, but thought I'd mention it.
You may already know, but Zippster has a guide to how to resolve the yellow bar issue you demonstrate: sites.google.com/site/thezippsterzone/home/coco2-projects/vertical-yellow-bar-fix
Never heard about the multi pak as a cause of that, but I supposed that is possible, considering theres NO FREAKING INTERLOCK on the thing. On the yellow bar: yup, I'm aware. Next video, we fix it. :D
Waiting for the video mod!! :-)
Thanks for the nice videos.
I had a coco 2 and 3 and the disk drive and the cassette tape and those shitty controllers
I threw my coco 2 in the trash I remember...1999..
Oh noes!
@@JoesComputerMuseum I know..I regret it bigtime...
Nice, but not as nice as an MC-10.
