    Even though I'm a ford guy, that Chevy can do what many other trucks can't. Not saying a ford couldn't match it, but it'd take a pretty good driver to do it. Props to the driver.

    I used to carry chains for my 2WD. I quit carrying them after I got my 4x4 and haven't needed them yet. I think I will be investing in a set of chains and carry them after watching this. • @seancarraher
      @seancarraher 3 роки тому +4

      @@andrewmorgan5541 new process makes it. Nothing special. What made these trucks do pretty well in snow and mud was the independent front end that doesn’t get hung up like a regular straight axle front end. Also has skid plates that helped it not get hung up. A Limited slip rear end that does pretty good when they are working correctly. Which is a 50/50 shot for the g80 rear end. It would be fun to see another stock full size 4x4 pick up made in 1993-94 trying to do this.

      @@justinbrewer2087 yea but pretty much every truck and real SUV of the era had a center lock when in 4lo and LSD in the rear. i'd wager all the LSD's are fully worn out by now anyway and are much closer to open. to support Ernie's theory i have a story. i had a 91 turbo Volvo wagon with a summer and winter set of tires. i thought the summer would be easier to drift in the snow because of the lack of grip. what actually happened is i'd one-tire-fire in a straight line and it wouldn't break loose. i put on the aggressive snow tires and the added grip sent power to both sides and it would instantly break loose like i was locked. what was happening was the inside tire would lose traction (for a fraction of a second) then grab and send power to the outside breaking the whole back end loose and the tires themselves were acting like traction control/electronic LSD. i also experienced this with chains on my tractor. in the Volvo example the snow tires are the chains.

The two best pickups i had for mud and snow was a 66 Bronco with 7.50 16 inch tires and a 59 GMC 1/2 ton with locking front and back differentials and 17 inch tires. I was a full time logger for 36 yrs, where this guy was driving would be a walk in the park compared to some of my logging roads. I always had chains for all four just in case the going got tough. The guy in this video is a good 4x4 driver. Most guys would have kept spinning and hung it up. I also did a lot of 4x4ing on weekends with friends. That's the LAST truck I would want to be in stuck in that weather, Those 90's Chevys had so many early Fuel pump failures, electrical issues, premature alternator failure, Dances gauges in the cluster not reading properly.....350 was a decent engine but the rest of the truck wasn't built well.

      +sammy duran G80's trigger off of tire speed differential. I'm pretty sure that's not an open dif, but if he has a G80, he better pull the cover off and check it because is looks broken to me. It shouldn't release like it is. The ones I've used lock up pretty tight, and I know when they go kaboom! you usually aren't going anywhere after that.

      92clintonr thanks for the comment. this video doesn't do justice at all. most people won't drive that Jeep trail without snow. yet alone go off the trail with several inches of snow over rocks and sage brush. we only did it because we had too.

    I just bought a 97 cheyenne k2500 for 350 with title. The guy told me they parked it because the transmission was having trouble pulling trailers. I didnt even start it because the truck didnt have a battery. But i still bought it because the seller told me the motor was good. I thought it has transfer case a motor a rear end 4 tires straight body extended cab for 350 dollars and a tow truck fee. i cant go wrong even if it dont run. I get it home and put a battery in it and it fires up first crank. Motor sounds new. I test tranny and all gears work. I felt like i stole it. It was hard for me to keep from smiling when i bought it. I thought it was gonna be a piece of junk but it wasnt. It needs some things on the inside fixed like guage cluster and fan switch

    There is something wrong with the rear end in that Z71. All Z71 trucks have G80 mechanical lockers in the rear axel. I noticed both rear tires are not always spinning. If the pin shears, you no longer have a locker rear end. I had one.
