    Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Back in the 80s I was lucky to own a minty black P version 84, loaded and a minty early 86 P version, burgundy with auto with gray leather. Apparently the auto was an option in the sport version for the last cars in 86. Both were in the 40K mile range and very well cared for cars, I really enjoyed driving them. I wish I kept the black one but the MR2 turbos and Toyota SR5 4x4s were too tempting. I don't know what happened to Toyota in the 2000s but man, they used to make the best of the best in Japanese cars! I have videos showing many of these Toyotas on my channel.

Whaaaa! All these decades, and owning an 84 Celica, I never knew the Supra had longer wheelbase. Thanks!

Several mistakes. - An auto trans was indeed an option for the "P" type. Not common, but it was available and I have seen a few. The "spoiler" on the hatch window was N/A on the "L" type, but standard on the "P" type, not optional. Horsepower for an "85" was 161, not 170. Having said that, the car is a thing of beauty, and does not seem to have any cosmetic flaws.

Yeah,he missed the ball. 84-85 Celica GTS came standard with the IRS and wheel flares. On coupe, hatchback, and ASC droptop. They also came with most gimmicks/ features found on supra with the exception of hard plastic trim pieces covered over with soft touch surface exclusive to supra and convertible.

I have an 85 here in Australia. What some people call a spoiler on the hatch is actually a sun shade. Stops the back seat passengers frying under all that glass. Probably acts like a spoiler somewhat though.

I have a minty 85 Supra p-type. The p-type not only had the fender flares and wider wheels and tires but also had a limited slip differential that was not available on the l type. Toyota was at the top of its game at the end of the '80s with this car, the first gen MR2 and the Corolla GTS. They entered the 90s with the Gen 2 MR2 which was gorgeous and the MK3 Supra which was over engineered like a Lexus because it shared a lot with the SC 300/400.

I, like MANY others absolutely love the aggressive stance and look of this automobile. Unfortunately, today the car has become an "orphan child" with little to no repro parts, no sheet metal panels, basically nearly nothing aftermarket available if you want to try and "restore" one of these wonderful cars. Very disappointing. I kind of wish the MK2 Supra would have been the one that everyone lusted after instead of the much more popular and faster MK4. Probably those "Fast and Furious" movies had everything to do with that car rising to the top of the heap, Supra-wise! Anyway, I will always love the MK2, have 2 of them, a running car and a "shell". Starting a restoration very soon. Please pray for me and my sanity! Thanks Steve for doing these videos. Love your work, and your knowledge of car history is unmatched!

Designed at Calty Design. It was Modular A60 design, pretty much like any American unibody car. The pizza base turret core was the same as the base Celica, with minor pressing changes to accomdate IRS, just like the Colt Sigma based Mitsubishi Starion. Like the 164 Volvo compared to the 144 Volvo. The extra wheelbase length was equal to one extra cylinder spacing and its water jackets, 4.47 inches on a 3.55 average bore spacing IJZE engine in its home market. The first JDM 24 valve engine was almost a 4AGE engine with an extra two cylinders. Toyota needed Lotus to fix the rear mounted steering boxes propensity to make BMW style semi trailing arm oversteer. Porsche had to use Wiessach geometry, Nissan had to use Hicas, Ford decided to use forward mounted steering gear from the first Cortina Mark III and Rear Drive Escort Mark II and European Capri Mark I. And the design assistant for modelling the Supra, none other than Vectors Jerry Weigert...

I also have an '85 and it's still a blast to drive. The 5M-GE six-cylinder engine was a 12 valve, not 24 valve engine.

The 1984 and 1985 Celica GT-S had the same performance options as the Supra like rear independant suspension, fender flares, and disc brakes just with the 2.4 liter engine and less weight. I owned a 1985 Celica Gt-S notchback and drifted it around corners and smoked LT1 Camaros in street races. I wish I would have kept it.

Pretty sure the 5mge was a 2 valve motor. The Mk III 7m was 4 valve.
Also, the P-type could be had with an automatic.

The European version had a digital dash pod. I borrowed a deep blue metallic one and held it at maximum speed a few miles. A wide stable car at speed my friend said the back could step out in damp conditions which id did as he was chasing me in a scrap bluebird coupe I used to hurl at corners.

Had an 84 Celica GT-S before I got my 88 Supra. Loved my GT-S more than I did the Supra for that model year. I bought it in 1992 and had it for a year or so before it got totaled out while my brother was driving it. Made me sick when I saw it all busted up. Would love to pick up an 84/85 Supra one day.

Price wise vs The Iroc Z
The TPI ttop car was more than an 85-86 Supra
The 87 was more than the Z28/Trans Am back in the day.. the stick cars had the wide wheels with the higher horses .. the auto was 15-20 hp less…
