I am here to tell you - decluttering is the path to MORE time, MORE joy, LESS stress! My first whole-house declutter was 2 years ago. Then the next year I was able to get rid of 50% of the stuff I kept after the first decluttering pass. Now I just have to do one drawer, or one area at a time because the worst of it is behind me. Cleaning is a breeze when you only have the stuff you use all the time. Studies have shown that kids thrive in a simpler environment. Congrats on making this discovery and learning how it makes life so much better.
This is something I need to work on. I have sentimental items from my dad and my mom who have passed. It’s been eye opening for me to check out thrift stores and see all these items and things that were important to individuals, now in a store for others to buy. It makes me sad but also makes me realize that I would prefer to declutter myself than have my relatives, once I am gone, make those decisions on what to keep and what to donate or sell. The memories do not get passed on, they belong only to you. There are sentimental items we want to keep to remember people by, but it doesn’t have to be everything. I just started decluttering and donating some of my nearly new dog toys and items I had from pets no longer in my life and what makes me happy is that these items will make another pet happy. There is no point in items just sitting and gathering dust. I have a long way to go, but it’s a start. I love simple living. It reminds me of my childhood and growing up on a farm. Kudos to you for making good choices and your family deciding to take on the challenge. It will enrich your lives. I have always believed in experiences over stuff. Experiences = memories to cherish.❤
Hello Josh & beautiful children. I'm so glad to see you all healthy and happy. Those plants are the most beautiful ones. Also, it's great for decluttering😊. Much love to see you & the family Josh.
Wise thoughts, wise words. Your plan for moving ahead sounds exciting. You don’t need loads of “things” to remember Sarah because you’ll always carry her in your heart
Sending you an abundance of love and strength. This is not an easy road. I’m 4yrs out since I lost my long-term partner/fiancé & almost a year since a house fire where most everything was lost. This is a “club” I wish none of us were in. I LOVE Josh’s message in this one. Things truly are just that, things. No one can take our memories away. As cliché as it sounds less is definitely more, the little things are the big things. Our memories & loved ones are what matters the most.
I’m doing the same thing. I have so much stuff that needs to go. My husband passed July 2023 and I had to move. I bought a small house and moved in July. But I’ve been putting it off. TFS❤
I so understand what you are going through and how that means that you are able to enjoy getting rid of the stress of taking care of, storing, and cleaning all the stuff we have. This summer I was able to replace my kitchen counters (45 years in the waiting). I had to clean out the cupboards and I did just what you have done in your home. I had a friend help me and once it was done and I moved back the things I really use and need, it has been pure joy to work without all the clutter of things I do not need anymore! Thanks for sharing this part of your journey. You are such a wise young man and this grandma really appreciates what you have learned!
I was guided to your video today. I have been realizing this about my life. I long for the simplicity of a ‘stuff-free’ life. This morning I am tackling my walk-in closet - and I was watching youtube videos to procrastinate. So thanks - I’m going to crank some tunes and make that first step. Wish me luck!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
We decluttered a few years back, and it's so freeing. Josh, I'm so happy you and the children are doing well , and we look forward to more vids in the future 🤗✌️🥰
Hi Josh…You are really coming across to me about Decluttering! It’s like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders! Many times in my life, I have moved. Each move resulted in yard sales or donating to a good cause! Now, there needs to be desk drawers full of my Work at Home items, as I have retired and the office must be gone through…old catalogues, papers, brochures, some needing shredding! I worked at home for 18 years so a lot of Staples propaganda has added up! Lots of fun, eh? It’s so nice to hear your life has been settling down and you are happy! You’re a smart man, Josh! You’ve been through so much and we all loved Sarah! When you look up to the sky at night and you see a twinkling star…that’s Sarah saying, Hi…sending her love to you, Braedan and Reylah…Now, be kind and make good choices! Sending hugs your way my friend! 🤗❤️😊
almost exactly 5 years ago while my dad was dying and I was his main caregiver I did a massive clean out of my house right before I had to do the inevitable clean out of his apartment, and it felt amazing. the lightness is priceless. I think going through a life/death situation makes it easy to see what really matters and what is weighing you down and is unnecessary in the moment. I could use another clean out. this is inspiring me to start- do you mind sharing the titles of the books you listened to ( I paused to comment and haven't finished watching the ep. so apologies if you did)
Hi Josh, you look very well and I’m glad you are happy. Fortunately I have never been a materialistic person. I travelled a lot during my younger years so I prefer experiences with people I care for. Btw I love your plants. Sending you love and peace. 🥰
I started doing that a year ago and it is so freeing.Instead of always shopping I’m now spending more quality time with friends and my dogs..I love my home being very minimal but still looks so nice with a lot more space now.i love it
I cannot live with clutter it makes me nervous. Good on you Josh like you say they are just things memories are stored in our minds that stay with you, they cannot be stolen or given away, they are yours alone to remember as and when you choose much love to you and your babies 😘
I just started doing this. Feels GREAT! We live in a small one bedroom apartment and if was closing in on us. Hey, found out we are distant relatives! Family from Louisiana! 🙂
Hi Josh good to see you ! I loved this video and it has really inspired me to give this decluttering thing a go. I am a self confessed hoarder and so consequently have loads of "stuff" left behind by my Mum Dad and Sister. I know that I will never use it but as you said all these items tend to hold memories of the person they belonged to. I am going to have a look on line for advice and books to read on how I can begin to try and declutter my house and my mind. Love and light to you and yours 🐰
These are audio books that really have helped me: Goodbye Things by Fumio Susaki, Minimalism for Families by Zoe Kim, the Joy of Less by Francine Jay, and Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne.
We downsized from 2000 square feet to 960 square feet. We got rid of half of everything we owned. I will say it was a great feeling! It is a constant job to continually edit possessions to keep on top of it. Our rule is one in one out. I need to do even more. I would love to live in a tiny house.
That is awesome! 1 in 1 out is great. Teaching kids about how it needs to be the same category has be fun hahah. 1 new you in, one old calculator out 😂… nope
Oh as soon as you described multiple baking pans etc I has to laugh.... I am a kitchen "stuff" magpie but use the same core set of tins.... Equally I use many bad words everytime I bake and can't find a set of measureing spoons of which I could start a shop with amount I have.... It needs sorting and has been the catalyst to doing what we are calling our Pre Death De Clutter. I have in recent years had to empty both parents houses, a uncles house and move house ourselves. The double garage that was meant to be a workshop a storage place for dead people's stuff, our stuff that needs sorting and house now filling with more stuff as we can't find stuff in garage 🤦♀️ I am bar kitchen Baking Trays a natural minimalist I love the cleanness and freedom of space... My husband and daughter... Who is married and has her own house but so much of her stuff at ours.... are hoarders, keep just incase, it might be useful, you can't have enough leads.... not only computer leads but dog leads and collars of dogs long dead 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Trying to get them to see the memories are not physical things but heart and mind things is hard. I am not allowed to just go clear or put in piles definitely keep as use frequently, possibly keep as frequently used item on last legs will need to replace soon and here is replacement, donate, sell, accept in bucket so I can then get it more manageable for them. I had tried taking pictures of everything so they could look at it and remmber that was not a good suggestion for them. I understand it is hard for them but I know we would feel better, have more time to make memories while we can. I have now done a awful scenario to them of what if me and husband killed in a accident do we want this de clutter task left to my daughter and answer is absolutely no...so work has slowly started. I will lead with my kitchen stuff and show the daily difference it makes then we do a box or drawer each per day It will get done and make life better now and with a eye to looking after my daughter when I am no longer here. 🥰💜X
Did you ever reconsidered about living off the land? I know you talked about it before and I can’t for the life of me remember the real name for it you used…. I still have my parents stuff 16 years , it’s hard to get rid of for sure… I like your analogy of remember the memory and set it free !
We are not going to homestead, Braedan decided that wasn’t the life for him, and I am okay with that. We all had to agree. This is similar, maybe better, because it’s freeing to be not be weighed down by stuff, but we still have our same community around us. :) homesteading would be a move away from community.
I totally get what you are saying about decluttering! My husband has terminal colon cancer, and after he passes I plan to declutter a lot of stuff including mine so our kids don’t have to do it when we are both gone one day.
I cannot live with clutter it makes me nervous. Good on you Josh like you say they are just things memories are stored in our minds that stay with you, they cannot be stolen or given away, they are yours alone to remember as and when you choose much love to you and your babies 😘

You're doing so amazing, prayers for you and the kids!🙏💙💙 Great way to live life, makes me think of changing my life ways
I became a minimalist a couple of years ago. It is a very humble way to live. Bless your heart!❤
Less can be more honestly! I find getting rid of stuff gives me clarity!
I’m finding this to be true as well!
Good for you ❤ so happy to see you embracing a more minimalist lifestyle.

Good for you! Minimalism is the way to go to enjoy more of your life!
Clutter causes stress, good job.
Isn’t it wonderful?
I’ve been doing it slowly since last year. There’s a freedom it brings.
🐝
There is definitely freedom! I’m enjoying as I go through stuff really questioning why I need/want it.
@@POGGrief absolutely.
Hi Josh hope you and your kids are doing a lot better
If you want to sell anything, LMK! I had a fire last year and lost EVERYTHING. I’d be more than happy to buy some things if still available.
Decluttering my house for our move was the most stressful thing EVER! 29 years of stuff!
Yep! You said it!
My prayers are always with you and your family ❤❤❤❤
Just be happy!
❤❤❤
Josh did you do a NEW HOUSE tour? So happy for you and the kiddos ❤❤❤
I did not. I am not planning on doing a full house tour for safety reasons right now. :)
