I use to play this for hours and hours with my father, its an amazing game, father died years ago and reminds me of how much Im missing the time spended with him
Wow! Great to see subbeteo is still alive and kicking! Im 52 now but i used to play this game for hours when i was around 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 ... i still remember the excitement of buying a new team that would come in small rectangular green boxes. When my brother wasn't around to play with me, i used to play both sides myself(don"t ask me how😂). I got a lovely subbuteo set for Christmas in 1979 that came the standard blue and white and red and white teams and Argentina as the third team in the set since they had won the Fifa World Cup a year before. I would organise league and cup competitions all for myself to play, i took it very seriously!! A magical world of subbuteo for a young kid When i was 15 i gave the set away to a children's charity for Christmas. Nice gesture but kinda regretted it some yeats after. Could be a collector's item now!
Have they redesigned the players and changed the rules of play, game seems much slower than when I played subbuteo in 80-90's and the players are not tilting or swirling around any more,
These clowns have made it boring and tedious probably playing boring FISTF competition rules...its a fun game when played the way it was originally meant to...people forget it was a kids game after all.
I'm wondering what rules changes there may have been since I gave up playing in 1993 because of the changes in rules which benifited slower players. Playing fast and keeping the ball moving were hard earned skills that made the game more interesting for me playing at a top standard.
Hi mate. The rules haven’t really changed that much really. Few here and there but nothing that would really have much of an affect on play. The big change has come from the equipment used. The Teams and playing surface in this video are high end, and it really helps fast game play. The bases used here are less rounded on the bottom, more like hockey pucks, and the pitch is an Italian made “extreme works” pitch designed to allow players to glide further.
There are many online shops available. This particular pitch is an "Extreme works" as are the goals and the bases that chris thomas is using. I'm not sure what bases Christian Hass uses. Anyway, this is the link to there site. www.extremeworks.it
Awesome video, need help guys. Just bought my new set,Subbuteo Real Madrid edition, and now Im a lil bit dissapointed. The ball is really fast, even when I touch the ball smoothly. Im using the standard Subbuteo Field. Should I change the ball? Any advice? In your video the ball is not so fast!!
Hi mate, 2 things that can cause this are fast pitches and heavy bases, some bases don't hit the ball as far forward as others do, even when they collide at the same speed and power. Also making sure tour board is flat & level. Might be worth dropping a post on the English Subbuteo Facebook page, many people with experience to help you there. facebook.com/EnglishSubbuteoAssociation/
My experience also. Finding a pitch in the USA without having to oder fro overseas is next to impossible. I just went out and bought some fabric samples, I'm going to screen pritn my own and run some tests.
Un real loved this game as a pre teen! Spent hours wi spars +fam. Had many teams even Sweden, sidings & stands. Computers games can be fun but as a pre computer schooling I'm pro games which bring folk together. Albeit masks I guess would be warn today!?
because in the subbuteo, the real one, the hand must be firm even when playing a defensive flick. This dirty way of playing reminds me just table football, man
Yes you are correct, this is the rule. But the fast nature that the game has evolved too has made that rule somewhat fuzzy. There are allot of players that break that rule unintentionally due to fast play and allot that simply “flick dirty” most referees don’t even bring it up.
I do not understand why this game insist on calling it ... "Subbuteo"! The real Subbuteo is what is played with miniatures that are able to tilt and perform the classic "walker" shots. Instead, the game you can see in the video could not even be called "miniature football" ... but miniature ice hockey! Bah!
Good game and great final goal. I am not sure Chris could have done much about it, maybe keep the goallie on the line as deflections are hard to predict and obviously Haas like to shoot that way. Paolo B
I was bought a Subbuteo set in the 70s for Xmas as a kid, but never played it properly, just liked flicking the players about. But my god this looks tedious.
These clowns have made it tedious with their ultra competitive bullshit...its actually a fun game if it's played the way I was meant to...I mean it was a kids game
Running the game with these defensive flicks...and backs....too competitive to the point its not interesting any more. Hand should never be on the table when opponent has entered shooting zone, and only keeper should be allowed to be controlled
Never understood it or bought it as a kid, felt left out. Watching this, I'm so grateful I spent my boyhood hours building model aircraft out of balsa wood and tissue instead of frittering them away on this numbingly tedious waste of time. Whatever was the attraction apart from the exploitative ability to get players in "your" team's strip?
These adult ultra competitive clowns ruin this game with their dumb competitions and interpretation of the rules. This is a fun game, I play everyday but not to be taken this seriously and making it boring and tedious. Adults ruin Legos in the same way...
Just because these players are good enough to compete and be competitive in the biggest tournaments in the world you think there clowns. Lol. Yeh, Alright mate 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
That's the modern FISTF version of the game, which has very little to do with recreating association football on the tabletop. Find a set of the original rules, get your son that set, forget about the FISTF version and play by the rules that are meant to define the game.

Is this subbuteo or park the bus?,this doesn't look like a game of subbuteo
Why every shot is slowed down? It schould be first at normal speed, and only after the "replay".
I can’t remember all these defensive moves getting in the war spoiling the flow. At one point the red guys hand knocked the ball out the goal.

+MatLampitt thanks pal. I guess that the boxed pitch that came with the set is awful...really thin compared to Astropich...

The grass is cut too short lol...get an old pitch and some original subbuteo bases...this video and newer stuff is more like carrom or curling...

I guess. But the thrill of being able to actually fly a model airplane built by your own hands (and do it with friends and so on) never faded.
People might feel the same way about balsa model planes, the most boring thing on earth? 😁... try not to judge
just lol
never could figure out how it worked... now i know that it's almost as boring as the real game
