  • In this video I respond to a video on UA-cam stating that Stihl dropped the ball with the Stihl fsa 135r. I totaly disagree with his take. I’m almost wondering if he might have had a directive trimmer.

    I agree with you. The issue with guys that say that the battery trimmers don't work is that they go into this with the preconceived notion that it's not going to work and they also run their gas trimmers at full throttle the whole time and do the same with the battery trimmers. I've been using battery products exclusively in all my videos for two years and even done overgrown cleanups to prove them wrong. Great video!

    I'm with you, we have a few of these and get 5-6 lawns done on a ap300, love them. And we live in the middle of no where so our lawns aren't small. Your older videos are what I looked at and listened to when considering getting the 135r. So thank you for that! I use the ap300's because the weight is more important to me than run time to be honest.

    I have a personal experience from this year with FSA 135. I Bought combo of FSA135 (not the R version, regular one with handlebars) and RMA 448PV (+3x AP300S + AL300 charger). Yep, it was not cheap (~ $2000). But FSA 135 is high above my expectations.
    I can get about an hour of a runtime (I was never used to go on full throttle not even on my previous gas-powered trimmer), and charging takes slightly more than an hour (maybe 70 minutes?) So I can go "unlimited" with two AP300S batteries (well time will tell how long batteries last with this pace). It's pretty comfortable - hour of trimming => get some drink => bam, battery is charged => swap batteries (full on machine, empty on charger) => 1 more hour of trimming => ... and the cycle repeats. I even cut some bushes and thin trees (freshly grown).
    But yes, when you are not able to use the machine in a way it was designed, you can probably turn it to the trash. I borrower the trimmer to my father and he just instantly set it to power level 3 and was always on full power. He emptied battery in ~30 minutes and it was very hot so I had to wait before charging it. But this never happened to me, and I just unboxed the trimmer and started using it as previous gas-powered.
    But the fact is, I was slightly disappointed with RMA 448PV. For me this one runs ~30 minutes and I expected more (I was even more hyped after the first experience with FSA 135). And this runtime I have with ECO mode = ON (mower decrases rotation speed when it thinks full power is not needed and adds rotation speed when needed). So from this point of view, this mower would not be my choice if I was buying mower for myself. I like it's rust-free (hopefuly) polymer body, i like independent drive, and mono handlebar with easy folding. But I do not like the runtime (on AP300S), and absence side discharge.
    But since I bought it to be used mainly by older women to keep the frontyard tidy, it works well for this purpose (She will not work in long session anyway, so the runtime is kinda OK here). And it's almost maintanance free (just sharpen the blade once/twice a season and you are good to go).
    So my conclusion about battery garden tech. In the trimmers we already have the alternative to gas-powered trimmers. But in the mower world we are not there yet, but almost. Not even speaking about chainsaw world (nobody just makes chainsaws to fall medium-sized trees, probably 36V systems will not deliver enough power).

      I’d say we are getting about 40 minutes of trim time out of them. That’s for weekly and biweekly. If you’re cutting overgrown chest high stuff your at about 25 minutes. That’s all trigger time. Not including walking from tree to tree. We have 7 batteries total and a charger in the truck. I’d definitely recommend 3 batteries. I’ve found some good deals on the batteries through facebook market place.

    I bought one of these stihl FSA 135 yesterday at a cost of nearly £1000 for the Strimmer. Battery and charger.. is this a joke , takes 70 minutes to charge the AP300s battery (once it has cooled down as it won't charge whilst the battery is hot, so that could take another 20 or 30 minutes) then gets maybe 25 minutes of use .. at this rate , its gonna take me a year to do 3000 sq m.. Essentially, with the FSA 135 and FSA 135 R, Stihl offers the same trimming performance, except with different handle options. The FSA 135 String Trimmer features a bike handle while the FSA 135 R comes with a wrap handle design. Beyond this distinction, both trimmers look pretty much the same. I haven’t used the bike handle trimmer. If you’re planning on using the strap all the time and have big areas to trim the bike style might be the better option. If you are thinking you might not use the strap is go with the r. The r is more versatile. If you want to flip it and edge a walkway the r is a must. Hope this helps!

      @@prewinder Has I said I have used the 135 quite heavily and I am happy in fact I used it yestarday cleaning cutting brum shrubs in a lot of land from my brother, they still small I not even need to use full power works great, I have all batteries from AP200 to AP500S I always tend to us the AP500S even heavier but it give me a little more time cutting.
      In regard to the MSA 300 in my opinion is a joy powerfull machine Stihl need to improve the batteries capacity, yes no doubt is heavier than the 220 but if have a ticker logs the 220 stands absolutly no chance. I have bouth today for example I am going to cut about 4 or 5, 6" to 8" oak trees and in this case I am taking just the 220 with one AP300S battery because is lighter and I not need lots of power but I have a friend that sometimes I help him and he help me, very much no mater the size of the logs he always grabs my MSA300 he enjoys how this saw performs and not care about litle more weight in regard to the other chainsaws I have 161T and 220C. In the MSA300 what make it more heavier is the AP500S battery but you must have it in order to be able to go in full and medium power sets, I have work with it quite few times using the AP300S and have no problem however it only runs in ECOMODE but evan in ECOMODE still feels faster than the 220C.
      I have the MSA300 with two size of bars 16" and 18" here 95% the trees I cut are oak and acording to the average size of the trees I chose one bar or the other right from the starting.
      If you are cuthing for example about 10",12" ticker logs for 30 minutes with MSA300 and then you pick up the 220C feels like going from a Mustang GT to a Ford Fiesta, but both have their purpose their high and their lower side when compared wich very much is weight, power and speed.

      @prewinder Рік тому

      @@sirvozelo1 Yes I have the 220 and used it a lot to thin out our Birch and Spruce forest. It is great up to 50 cm thick wood. Easy to carry when clearing of branches from the logs, but I consider getting the MSA300 for felling bigger trees. But I guess I would need more than two ap500s to last 4 hours work (then I can recharge at lunchtime).

      @@prewinder Is not so simple, to cut continuos from a pile of logs and I have don it but I use 3 AP500S and 1 AP300S an eletric outlet available and the charger 500 on all the time. Now in your case you mention 4 hours but maybe is not continuos cutting, never the less and all depends on what kind of wood and what tickess, however very much you need at least 4 AP500S BATTERIES. keep in mind if you using 80% of 18" bar cutting oak 12 or 13 cuts and the AP500S battery is discharged, and don't forgot a sharp chain is a Must.
