Pow Wow International Wendake 2024

The Huron-Wendat Indigenous nation are holding their annual Pow Wow International this weekend. Mosaic Edition was at the opening day to experience the rich culture of the Huron-Wendat in their only community, Wendake, adjacent to Quebec City.
In an interview, Ann-Sophie, an Indigenous from Wendake spoke of the significance of holding the Pow Wow on their own land. The Indigenous dancer noted that the event takes place around summer because the hunting season was over and the community can host activities to share their culture with the public. According the Government of Quebec on its website, it states that the Huron-Wendat speak French. “The Wendat language is considered extinct,” says Quebec adding that “a research project is underway in an effort to revitalise it.” Ann-Sophie, the interviewee speaks French, English and Spanish.
