My best Munro is Meall aBhuirdh which I did pre Covid with my son. It was my dad's favourite mountain. He climbed on the 30s in tackety boots, an old tweed suit and his mother's washing rope! I'm 72 now but still Munro bagging. Blaven is another top mountain. Living in the Borders there are some great days out there. The Ettrick Horseshoe takes in Ettrick Pen. Did that twice in a week recently. Keep up the videos! It's inspirational watching you on difficult ridges conquering your nerves. You're not in the mountains but they are in you.

Nice to see a young man starting out on his Munro career. Being 71 next month and with knackered knees I’m very envious. In my day there were no mobile phones, or drones, or digital photography. It’s great to see these Munro days being shown on UA-cam. Get back to the South Glen Shiel Ridge. Traversed the ridge 14 times and loved it every time, even the day when torrential rain forced me to sit for 2 hours in a survival bag between the last 2 Munros. I don’t drive so my day was the bus from the Kintail campsite to the Cluanie Inn, 7 Munros, then the walk back to the campsite. Then down to the hotel for a meal and some beer. Usually did the 5 Sisters (11 times) the following day. Enjoy your journey, young man.
Thanks Gerald, it must have been great back then - I can imagine it being a bit more of a ‘pure’ experience without technology! An teallach 2. Beinn Sgritheall 3. South Glen Sheil (weather wasn’t quite as good as your day) 4. Lochnagar +4 (apart from the long walk back along the loch) 5.Lurg Mhor (bike hike)
I've only just spotted this lovely summary video. I guess my Ben Wyvis is Meall Ghaordhie which I did early on and have repeated three times, always with something special about it. The first was on Hogmanay with deep snow all the way from Glen Lochay. The weather around was very stormy looking, but astonishingly the sun shone on me all day, like being in a circle of white brightness with all the hills around looking black and occasionally appearing for a few moments. Ben Wyvis itself is probably my third most ascended munro, often in conjunction with Little Wyvis - the flat bit between the 2 is one of the roughest flat areas I know, and is definitely not my favourite. I guess my real favourites are An Teallach, Aonach Eagach, Ben Alligin, A' Mhaighdean and the Mamores of which the ring of Steall is awesome. but ultimately any hill can be utterly fabulous on a great day - your views on your Gleouriach day are fantastic and made much better in that Loch Quoich is so full and not showing its ugly resevoir scars.
Hi James liked your top 5, here's mine, Ballachulish horseshoe, Beinn squaird, Ben hope, buachaille etive mor, and bidean nam bian of the ones I've done so far, all about opinions everyone's different 😁
My top 5 would have to be: 1. Beinn Alligin - Just an incredible late August day, everything aligned for the perfect day out and the views were unbelievable 2. Buchaille Etive Mor - My second Munro day for my 30th birthday. Badly misjudged the UV rays that day though, had mild sunstroke on the drive back to Edinburgh but didn't take away from it 3. Ring of Steall - Perhaps stupidly my and my girlfriend's 4/5/6/7th Munros but it was a great day. We did it in reverse, the ascent was horrific but the ridge in the early morning sun was outstanding. Still probably my scariest experience though, as the wind picked up considerably when doing the airy scramble you mentioned in the video. 4. Carn A Mhaim - This was just something different, the long walk in from Braemar through the Mar Lodge Estate was an enjoyable slog, and the feeling of total isolation at the summit made for a good day out 5. Ben Vorlich and Stuc A' Chroin - This is memorable for making a couple of mistakes and ending up going up a much tougher route than the usual two options people take. Special mention to Ben Nevis for being the first Munro and to Schiehallion for being one of the worst. And to Stac Pollaidh for being a great wee hill

No1 Fisherfields over a couple of days, No2 CMD, No3 Ballachulish horseshoe, No4 Lochnagar circuit, No5 Conival and Ben More Assynt. Fisherfields last summer was simply the best days in the hills in the last 10 years. Ballachulish from the Westerly starting point is the steepest climb onto a ridge I've ever done..but what a view. Lochnagar because it was the first circuit where I did multiple Munros in the same day.
South Shiel ridge is my top route so far but I'm way behind you with only about 30 bagged so far! really enjoyed buachaille etive mor and ben macdui which we got an amazing 'alpine' style spring day for.
good top 5 James. I have no real favourite- but Fisherfield and Knoydart areas are my top places. all the best for the rest of your hills and look forward to seeing them. ATB
Thinking about my top 5. Strange how stinking weather could knock a belter of a day right down when I think about my favourite days good weather always comes to play. Only done 42. 1) Ben Nevis via CMD arête. Amazing weather, clear sky’s 23 degrees. Taps aff all day. 2) South Glen Shiel ridge. Brilliant weather again. Thankfully had the car at the end. 3) Got to be my first munro. Ben Lomond. Was earlier this year early March under winter conditions felt like I was Everest when I done it😂. 4) Ben Vorlich and Stuch a Chroin. Second ever day out early March again snow and ice on the ground was not prepared for the scramble especially with snow and ice since I was new to it found it very scary. 5) Lochnagar 5 munro circuit.

A great top 5 of the ones you've done so far. Be interesting to see your top 5 after the next 100! I think sometimes weather makes the difference and Ben Wyvis is a good one in good weather. My top 5 are an odd lot considering what I've climbed lol. 5. Bynack More. Really liked the geology around the summit. 4. Sgor Gaoith. Views down to glen einich and the memories from years gone by. Love that plateau. 3. Braeriach. That walk in and the view opening up across to Cairn toul and Angels peak as you near the summit, which btw would be in my top 10 cos I love the Cairngorms lol. 2. Bruach na Frithe. The cuillin are something else and will be interesting to see what you make of them. Very difficult to get a clear day there but when you do....yes we'll you'll hopefully get that opportunity 🙂 1. Don't hate me as it's one of the easiest... Cairngorm! My first Munro when I was 12 years old with my dad and I've walked to it's summit every year since, and now I'm alot older shall we say 😂.

It will be interesting to see what your top 5 will be when you've finished the Munros. If you should decide to revise the list, here's a humble suggestion: avoid pointing your camera towards a bright window when filming yourself - your face becomes very dark when you do that. I loved many many days on the hills and hated a few too (eg Ben Chonzie, the Drumochter Hills). Its all very subjective and dependent on the particular personal experience. These are just off the top of my head 5. Beinn na Lap - literally ran up it touched the top and ran back down to catch a train...didn't know I had it in me and this spurred me on to complete bigger outings. Still love that hill. Doubt anyone else would have it on their list but hey... 4. Cairngorm and Ben Macdui - first time I had seen an inversion and the plateau was awesome. 3. Ballachulish Horseshoe/ Ben Lui and Beinn a Chleibh - these 2 days had a similar feel to me - loved them 2. The Aonach Eagach - did it on my own and had a fabulous day, met great people and got a lift back up the glen at the end 1. Beinn Eighe - I was stunned by the lochan and the 3 butresses in Coire Mhic Fhearchair - amazing. Great video again. I concur with your choices - all great days out. As I write, I'm remembering Knoydart, the Cuillins, all the Cairngorms. Great to remember them.

Might have to make another video for the 5 worst 😂 It really comes down to conditions on the day, cloud inversions making it especially memorable 😁 Beinn Na Lap nearly made my top 5 too! Ive had that many good days but i like the multi munro days . 1. Lochaber Traverse , Stob Ban to Ben Nevis (8munros) 2.Fannichs 3.South GlenShiel ridge 4. Braeriach Traverse 5.Not munros but Trotternish rigde on Skye is one of the best walks in Britain
Haha I’ve done 114 Munro’s and Ben Wyvis is bottom of the list! It was full of people - a proper tourist hill and and to make matters worse we followed the SMC horseshoe route which took us on to the next peak then down and round. It was truly awful, tussocks and bogs, a really crap route. So the option is really an out and back which I hate so you see why I rate it as my worst Munro so far. My fave 5 (thus far) are Sgurr Nan Gillian, Liatach, An Teallach, Ben Alligan and Sgurr Mhic Choinnich.

Nice wee video selection there James. Probably my favourite 2 trips is the Fisherfield Deargs. A couple of stunning Corbetts. Also a summit camp on A'Mhaighdean followed by the Beinn Tharsuinn Chaol Ridge & onto the Corbett Beinn Lair. Fisherfield has a plethora of routes.

@@ScottishMunroJourney I think what differentiates the Welsh and Scottish mountains is how much more vast and untouched the highlands of Scotland are compared the Welsh mountains. They just stretch out into the horizon in a more vast and majestic way in my opinion, untouched and way more remote. I mean, Snowdon has a train going up it and a cafe at the top, and it's crawling with hikers and tourists like ants all year round. Not a very attractive prospect for me, and for that reason I don't think I would ever go near it. I've only started hiking in the last couple of years, and so far I've just stuck to the Rhinog mountain range, and the Moelwyn range, significantly smaller than many other ranges, but much quieter and and remote than the better known ranges. Maybe one day I'll head up to Alba to see the mighty munroes for myself. Loved your video and subbed.

Ive had that many good days but i like the multi munro days .
1. Lochaber Traverse , Stob Ban to Ben Nevis (8munros)
2.Fannichs
3.South GlenShiel ridge
4. Braeriach Traverse
5.Not munros but Trotternish rigde on Skye is one of the best walks in Britain
Got to love the Multi Munro days.. great list 😁👍 hoping to do Braeriach Traverse next year, once we get daylight back.

Haha I’ve done 114 Munro’s and Ben Wyvis is bottom of the list! It was full of people - a proper tourist hill and and to make matters worse we followed the SMC horseshoe route which took us on to the next peak then down and round. It was truly awful, tussocks and bogs, a really crap route. So the option is really an out and back which I hate so you see why I rate it as my worst Munro so far. My fave 5 (thus far) are Sgurr Nan Gillian, Liatach, An Teallach, Ben Alligan and Sgurr Mhic Choinnich.

goat fell in Arran is just short of a munroe but because its on a small island the views are amazing. very under rated and well worth the stomp
1. Conival and Ben More Assynt (cloud inversion, views of big empty land)
2. Beinn Sgritheall (for the views of west coast)
3. Buachaille (Stob Dearg) little effort and looks as good from below.
4. Gairich (dry weather, summer sunset, quiet hill and little trodden)
5. Beinn Alligin (yet to do the horns)

Nice wee video selection there James. Probably my favourite 2 trips is the Fisherfield Deargs. A couple of stunning Corbetts. Also a summit camp on A'Mhaighdean followed by the Beinn Tharsuinn Chaol Ridge & onto the Corbett Beinn Lair. Fisherfield has a plethora of routes.

@@ScottishMunroJourney I think what differentiates the Welsh and Scottish mountains is how much more vast and untouched the highlands of Scotland are compared the Welsh mountains. They just stretch out into the horizon in a more vast and majestic way in my opinion, untouched and way more remote. I mean, Snowdon has a train going up it and a cafe at the top, and it's crawling with hikers and tourists like ants all year round. Not a very attractive prospect for me, and for that reason I don't think I would ever go near it. I've only started hiking in the last couple of years, and so far I've just stuck to the Rhinog mountain range, and the Moelwyn range, significantly smaller than many other ranges, but much quieter and and remote than the better known ranges. Maybe one day I'll head up to Alba to see the mighty munroes for myself. Loved your video and subbed.
