Its not the worst, but you should get the back of the car up too, so all of the oil can get out, also maybe install a magnet on the drain plug so you can see if, and when something is messed up, dont know if you can get the oil drain screw with the magnet pre-installed.
Mechanic from germany, former Polo owner here 1. 10W40 is exactly what you wanna roll with, maybe, a 15W40 wouldnt cause any trouble either. 2. Your Belt was squeeling a little, from what I could hear it's probably the alternator belt and not the one for timing so I'd check that out. !! Shot Alternator Bushings CAN be the cause cause you cant tention it properly then 3. If you want to check for oil leaks you gotta locate the highest point of contamination, if the valve cover gasket is leaking it'll basically go everywhere.
5W30 is better for the Volkswagen Golf. and you should place cement blocks for the little ramp so it wont move when driving on it makes it a lot easier.
