To give some chronological context about the "last 16 part" at the start of the episode, BLUELOCK is taking place right after the 2018 World Cup, where Japan lost 3-2 to Belgium in the round of 16 (last 16 teams) after conceding a last minute goal when they were leading the game 2-0. Japan has also never been past the last 16 stage in the World Cup in their history, they also lost in the last 16 stage against Croatia in the past 2022 World Cup.
What I like about Kira is that he's introduced as a nice, talented dude, so you're immediately on guard, thinking he'll be revealed to be a douche, who'll belittle the less talented Isagi. But then he loses the game of tag and you'd expect to see his "true nature", but he's realistically frustrated. His rage is less at how he was beaten by the "lowly" Isagi, and more at how cutthroat the Blue Lock system is. Kira may be talented, but even at the entrance, he hesitated to go and it's that hesitation that is his downfall, so he's left a shell of his former, confident self, denying his fate instead of cursing Isagi.

Blue lock and ao ashi are the only two soccer anime i like because it doesn't do powers like inazuma eleven it takes realistic info and some times bends it
That was mainly a talk episode, and it felt so dramatic and full of action, i really love it about this show. They don't stop creating an amazing shots with the characters in every moment possible 💪 Glad you enjoy it. Also the plot isn't that straight line, and the MC is one of the best new gen MC - Evolution of Isagi goes crazy.
