Having served my country through the U.S. Army, (1988-1991, Regular Army), (1991-1996, Army Reserves), and (Regular Army again, 2003-2014), I can watch this excerpt and it can make me cry and laugh at the same time 😂🤣🤣 💯

You know Harold Ramis, the who plays Russell, wrote this because the scene where Winger makes his speech is very similar to the one in Animal House where Belushi made his. Ramis co-wrote both movies.
After Top Gun was released, they said teenagers were literally showing up at the Navy recruiter with popcorn still in their teeth I'm pretty sure Stripes did that for the Army !

Do you have the scene where Stella Hansen and John Winger are escaping from General Barnicke's packing trunk in their underwear? Please upload it when you get a chance.

Ramis loved sneaking in references to vietnam in his early stuff lol

all we have to do is be the great American fighting soldier that's inside each one of us.
John Candy's straight-faced explanation at the beginning of the scene sets the tone, and Bill Murray's speech finishes it.
