It's mostly because they knew EXO-L were being treated badly by the staff, they were pushed, taken their light sticks away and because they made a huge effort to get EXO to win every award they were nominated to. And they would've but MAMA decided to give other groups the awards EXO won rightfully. So that's why they were so emotional and gave a long speech, they knew how disappointed EXO-L was and they knew the girls were crying during the show. That's why Baekhyun said "don't cry, after this you can go home" even tho the show wasn't over yet because they were angry and sad to see their fans being treated so badly. That's why Chanyeol was crying so much. After this many EXO-Ls wanted to leave but the staff basically retained them. Even tho it's been years since this incident we still feel sad about it and it's one of the reasons why EXO stopped attending this award show.
