Henry escaped my full RNC with his hands in his belt. I applied it as hard as I could but I thought he broke my arm escaping. I felt horrible and asked another black belt to do it and Henry escaped again using no hands. Henry has such a deep understanding of these moves

Henry's videos are a hidden gem. The technique's he shows are simple and effective. I cant believe more people dont watch his videos. Huge detail in this video is at 17:10
Professor Akin’s in-person seminar in Atlanta was pure gold, with a lot of repetitions on techniques. His videos have become my ‘go to’ for out of class instruction.
Very generous of you Bernardo to share this timeless technique which Rickson emphasized so much in his teachings. Sticking to basics using leverage like using more of you on less of him truly stood the test of time, even with the trend of increasing bjj techniques.
I love all of your videos, Bernardo, but when you have Henry on here, it's a special treat. I watch tons of BJJ videos, always with the idea of finding something I can us in my gym. I have had more success with Henry Akins' techniques and concepts than with those of any other instructor.
I have some very successful moves that are part of my game now that I learned from his encounters with Bernardo. His knowledge is impressive and he knows how to pass it along!
Henrys instructions are gold for everyone, but if you are fat, old, slow, or all of the above he should be the only out of class instructor you listen to.
Professor Henry really explains the invisible Jujitsu. It’s amazing how we’ve seen the back escapes illustrated for years but rarely had broken down in a clear logical manner. Thanks for clarifying the hand fighting reasoning! I can’t wait to roll and add these jewels of Jujitsu to my back escapes! Coach Al
Usually Bernardo doesn't ask this many questions, especially specific questions. Many times he'll just repeat what the presenter says, in a question form, and maybe get a slightly longer answer. But this is him exploring. I can tell he's legitimately learning, curious and having fun. Henry is a top G.
Harry is the best! I myself I have been a teacher of multiple disciplines for decades and have received lots of accolades for my teaching skills. As an acclaimed teacher I will tell you that nobody is better than Harry! Breaking moves down in small steps this is the key to superior teaching of any discipline and this is what Harry excels at!
These are excellent videos. I like how it’s more like a seminar with live dialogue on broad concepts. Then as the concepts are rolled out, Bernardo brings up valid points that are micro analyzed. This is the kind of material that actually helps people get better. Thanks for the content!
I’m in my 6th week of learning BJJ, and I just wanted to thank you for making all of these incredible videos. Every morning after class, I grab a coffee and watch a video related to what we drilled, and pick up so many great tips and pieces of advice from your content. It makes me so excited to roll again and try them out! Obrigado from Ireland!!🇮🇪
This video was super helpful If I had to be critical it’d be easier to watch if the dude in blue didn’t interrupt so often and let the guy explain his moves with more flow 🙏🙏 Appreciate the share tho. Super useful
I’ve done a few seminars and private lessons with Henry. I remember each lesson as if it were yesterday. When I rolled with Henry as a brown belt I felt the beat down for a week 😂. He didn’t go crazy he just used pressure and basics and it was all I could stand 😅.
Yes, when Henry is talking about guys not utilizing the bottom leg, it is that leg becoming active in forcing a hip rotation. Go and re-watch that part of the video and you will notice the hip rotation. OSS
Akins is so good. He just has a Steven Seagal vibe to him that makes ppl not want to listen to him but if anyone else were giving us these exact techniques... we'd be in awe of how good the detail was. Akins is a beast!
“Steven Seagal vibe”? Wtf are you talking about? This is a foolish comment, Henry is a very well known legend, he trained with Rickson Gracie his entire life.
I’m having trouble when they push my defending hand away. What am I supposed to do? I think I’m too slow to retract it back to defend. We are starting with seat belt grip, they abandon it and go to pushing away defending hands.
Bro i've been trying henry akins stuff in my class at gracie barra, and as awesome as it looks on video shit doesn't work at the slightest, for example his guard passing principles are for my teachers wrong from end to end and the fact is that i can't apply it, now his principles to add pressure from side controls are cool, but seriously if like my you go for the trash compactor submission when you have a scarfold hold then you don't have to much thing there.
@@kdavid123186 Definitely.....takes a lot of patience and time to perfect the techniques without thinking of quitting. No wonder its known as one of the toughest martial art to learn and master

Henry is the Jedi Knight of Jiu Jitsu.
As a newbie to BJJ, Henry gives really good explanations of the WHY.....which always doesn't get expressed in 1 hour classes. Great instruction style.
So whats the "why"?
This combo is hands down my favorite educational combo in UA-camjitsu.
You have like the next 2 years worth of content from Henry Akins. No other videos needed.

Because the back attack is probably the highest percentage submission in bjj

Pure gold!!! Been learning this process mechanically, but now with understanding. Thank you!

A 20 minutes video destroyed my countless hours of practicing back mount escape :) just wow hehe
Amazing video, I have learned the head escape but these additional details are so valuable

Wish I knew this before class last night! 🤯
This is awesome. Man I would love to see Bernado and Henry roll.
I love how at 14:00. Bernardo trys to sneak another try without saying anything 😂

First. I struggle with this so I’m glad to see the video
It would be cool to see bernado try and implement the techniques at the end of the videos.

does henry akins follow the gracie diet?
Is there any gotta he of this guy rolling rounds
I can’t find a single one. Makes you go…hmmmm
It's been quite a few years since the underhook side stopped being considered the bad side, so yeah, you will not find him rolling with anyone.
17:25 use leg in escape
12:33 escape
Backtakes: like many things in jiujitsu, not a good position for the smaller player, from either side. But it’s points, we have to do it.

Best way to escape the back is to tap. 👍
I tend to disagree on that one. BJJ is all about escapes. Just requires sheer perseverance and patience in perfecting the skills.
