Q:“Umm fans weren’t allowed at the ballpark?” A: “... well we started charging our employees and players to park so we didn’t lose out on that parking revenue”
As a lifelong Mariners fan, this makes me sick. Seems like every time something positive happens within the organization, we take 5 steps back...such is life as Mariners fan.
If anything, I would see this as a huge positive from a Mariner fans perspective because this man singlehandedly blew up their entire strategy as an organization. Now, with the magnifying glass on them, they can’t risk manipulating the young prospects in the farm who are big league ready, unless they want to deal with multiple grievances from the players which they will win easily. So all in all, now Mariners fans get to see their prized prospects start to come up and help turn this their team around.
What sad is if this was another American business he’d be lauded as a smart business owner by other rich folk. The rich get richer in America and we support it.
So, him coming out as being so cheap definitely fits why I stopped being a season ticket holder. When Mather took over, in 2018 I think. I recieved my renewal paperwork with a letter from Kevin Mather, discussing that Season ticket and regular ticket prices would be going up this year. This didn't bother me much, it's expected over time prices will rise. But what bothered me was his explanation in the letter. He continued to add that, "For years Seattle Mariners season tickets have been priced at some the lowest priced in the MLB, with this increase we will still be in the middle of the pack and still be offering great benefits." This dug at me, nothing about using the extra money to pay staff, player or anything specific, just raising prices because they are one of cheapest currently. And I'm a Mariners fan win or lose, but when you haven't been in the playoffs in 15+ years, you can't expect to be "in the middle of the pack" with prices. It was an obvious "only about the money" move. Jerk. Glad he's gone.

@Andrew Tobin back in the 90s and early 00s it was pretty simple. They just showed daily highlights from every game played that day. It was a tight hour, and that was it. When ESPN started broadcasting games, they couldn't show as many highlights from competing networks. The show gradually devolved into 24 hour news style nonsense, where the hosts just needlessly argue their "hot takes" instead of just covering the days games. They flat out ignore the majority of games these days. I think it was the Ray Rice stuff that made me completely give up on it. How many times do I have to hear the same story in a single month? I mean, covering the Ray Rice story is essentially 5 minutes of coverage. I get it, it's a big story, but for real, what happened in the Cardinals game yesterday?
@@DreamMorpheus42 Not only that ESPN exclusively focuses on sports that they have big money TV deals on.
This is why you'll hear baseball for 5 minutes, hockey for 1 minute a year and 24 hours a day on NFL and NBA.
