Recently upgraded my 5800x3D to 7800x3D and additional performance increase especially in heavy airports with study level airliners on the ground is remarkable. Even in 4K with 4070 ti where you would probably expect every other game to be GPU bottlenecked, the 7800x3D produces amazing performance gains.

What sort of fps difference were you seeing?

    • @oliverunruh900

@@AirNOTT Difficult to say, but as I said, especially on the ground during the cockpit preparation on the big airports there is a noticeable difference. Much more fluent and consistent experience. To quantify in numbers I would say maybe 10 % better performance from 50 - 60 to 60 - 70 fps (DX11, no frame generation). 1 % lows are probably even more better. And one more thing: At my old AM4 platform I had a lot of CTDs with 0xc0000005 code which are completely gone since the upgrade to AM5.

Did the same upgrade on 3060ti a few months ago. 5800x3d is a big difference, much better 1% low, seems much smoother overall and keeps the GPU busier. A good upgrade for sure but not cheap. Worth it for MSFS alone, other games not such a big upgrade.

  • @phil5564

I upgraded from 5600X/3060 (1080p) to 5800X3D/4070TI (1440p). This was a major improvement for MSFS2020 and DCS-MT(MultiThread). However, not as large an improvement for XP11/12. System power when gaming only increased 80W with this CPU/GPU upgrade. The 5800X3D will run hotter under full load but under-volting can drop that at least 5C with no performance loss.

Just upgraded my system a few days ago, already had a 4090 but went from a 5900x to a 7800X3D, 64 gigs of 6000@cl30 RAM and a X670 Aorus Elite AX motherboard. I use VR with a Reverb G2V2. I do not use DLSS (it blurs things in VR), flying the Astro around my city (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), if I use the preset VR settings to "Ultra" I get a frame rate into the 50's, if I use the "High" preset I get into the 60's using OpenXR. The flying is very smooth.
I also use real time aircraft, have photogrametry on (Bing), it all looks real pretty, I can't remember the exact 100% resolution the Reverb G2 is using, but it's something around 3160 x 3092 per eye. I also noticed a improvement in some sim racing titles like ACC which is very badly optimized for VR.
So far, for the titles that take advantage of the extra 3D cache, I'm impressed, for titles that do not, I'm getting roughly the same performance as my 5900x.
To Airnott..... have you set Curve optimizer for your 5800x3D? if not, look up how to do it on YT, there are many videos, this will give you extra frames while using less power and keeping your CPU cooler since I've seen in the video that you are on a air cooler.

Upgraded from a 3700x to a 5800x3d… I now get 60-65fps (1080p) 50-60(1440) and 30-40(4k) on my 3060 12GB. I was getting 20-30 even at 1080p with no traffic, LODs low and multiplayer off I was getting 30ish. Definitely happy that I got it. Next I’m hoping I can get a 4070 ti so I can play at 4k and enjoy this on the oculus. Hopefully by next year
To add; I also play beamng. I was getting max 70 at least with no AI. I also play my games mostly 1440p) with the new CPU I was getting 120fps alone and 60 maxed out traffic. It took a lot to get it to slow down the cpu lol. Love it so much.
Last edit I swear; I also noticed you basically have the same setup I have too. Besides GPU and my MB is a ROG STRIX Prime B550m I believe. (Prebuilt. Slowly building off it.)

Which CPU would you suggest with the goal of 60fps? Im also keeping in mind that while MS has said MSFS 2024 will have better processes leading to a more efficient and less taxing. However, I'm working under the idea that future updates and add on products will require even more power.

yes its an upgrade, but also somehow underwhelming. just doesnt feel right to spend money on a new CPU to just hit that 30 FPS mark, so check your expectations folks.🤣
you will still drop below 20FPS, especially with traffic injector at major airports - bummer. surely a worst case scenario, but isnt that the reason we go for THE best AM4 CPU, to end making compromises?

@AirNOTT OK, but that's not what you play at? Or is that all you can manage with a 3070? I thought I was getting in the 40s with my 3070 at 1440p the one time I tried MSFS on Gamepass. I gave that card to my son (4070ti now), and I'm wondering if it will make any difference in DCS going from a 5600X.
