caroline - Timothy is a natural at it, like DiCaprio before him...he’s at his most comfortable in front of the camera, exploring the role. You can see it. He has all of the traits of a gifted natural. He’ll be one of the greats in not too many years. Watch him rise up to be the biggest leading man in Hollywood in about 5-10 years. Just like Leo did.
One of the things that attract me most about Timothée is precisely his naturalness. It doesn't seem like I'm acting. He does everything in a sensitive and real way 💕💕💕
What really blows me away about this scene is that timothee really portrays this side of his character that is the “bored and annoyed teen” but then he’s also really sensitive and super paternal towards his brother in the scene and it’s just two extremes that are portrayed so closely next to each other, it must’ve been extremely hard to act them out and keep them separated. But he pulled it off and the result is stunning!!
Eva Aulbers - Yes, that’s a good observation. He’s one of the most natural young talents to come along. If you look back at others before him...DiCaprio, River Phoenix, Joquin...they have this same quality. They just seem to naturally know how to all into a role. I love this kind of acting. I’m also impressed by the dad...I forget the actor’s name, but he was always a comic, but he’s really showing that his acting chops go far beyond slapstick and goofy comedy. The mom is the same woman from Liar, Liar in the 90s with Jim Carrey.
is no one gonna talk about how good the young child actors were in this film?? like for one scene they both cried uncontrollably. that’s pretty good acting lol
This scene made me cry. This reminds me of my older brother who has struggled with addiction his whole life and has been in and out of rehab. When he said “hey is it weird seeing me after all this time?” So self consciously and with a tinge of regret over not being there. The way he says “Ok”. So humble, mature, broken, and caring. He’s mourning the way things used to be. And trying desperately to make things go back to the way they were.
I have never resonated so much with a comment. I also had an older brother struggling with drug and smoking addiction. I was so aware of the situation at such a young age. He would leave the house and not come back for days. My mom would breakdown sometimes because he wouldn't come home and he left home when I was pretty young, so when I saw him the next time it felt different but he was not different, the way we would interact with each other would always be the same. It felt so normal but broken at the same time.
This being the end would’ve been deceptive. the reality is the hard drugs change you. he wouldn’t be the same old nic, it takes time to become a percentage of the person you were. What I liked about this scene was the reality that even the most sincere love can’t get in between an addict and their drug. It hit home with him saying he was gonna be there for the swim meet only to relapse and be back on meth during that swim meet. What you saw here was someone who’s still an addict having a moment of sunlight, which is important to depict.
But little brother's meaning by that may not mean what nick may think it means. What if the little brother didnt notice the fact he was a druggie and just thought he was the same nick. Isnt that good tho cuz it means even as an addict his brother's preception of him never faultered it never affected him.
When I watched this movie, and when it came to this scene, I totally lost it when Jasper said "you're just the same old Nic" because honestly....drugs do not define who people are and it's just...wow. I'm totally not about to cry right now.
I didn’t even watch the movie, but when the boy says “ you’re just the same old Nick” and Timothee smile, I feel like crying. This is so emotional wtf 😭
This was my favorite scene of the movie. When nick’s little brother tells him you’re still the same after all this time and brings a smile to nick’s face. That was a rare genuine smile that seemed so needed for nick.
This scene was beautiful because it not only portrays nicks love for his brother and paternal care for him, but the innocence of a child. In the child’s eyes, Nick is still his brother through and through, hence “the same old Nick.” Drugs didn’t change him, they just made him go away for a little.
1:28 "hey is it weird to see me after all this time or no?" "i guess it was at first. i thought you would be different, but you're just the same Nic." look how timothée (nic) smiles. GENUINE
the what TC talks to the kid is how we should all speak to children. he really treated him like a person with their own mind. children deserve to have their agency respected and this interaction demonstrated how to interact with a child that is dignified and respectful
This is the best scene of the film, hands down. It shows how caring he could be even after going through so much. And the way he show his care is beyond acting🙈
How real and 'right from the core of the heart' can a single scene get?!? THIS SCENE IS BEAUTIFUL! You can actually feel all the emotions through that conversation :') ❤️
My two sons are just about the same age difference as these two boys here. I so badly wanted a moment like this between them, but it never came to be. I once took them on a long hike to the beach. My youngest and I had a blast and we held hands by the shore while the waves crashed up against us. My eldest held back just sat on the beach, angry that he was even there. It’s hard for me to watch this scene and not want to tell the mother, no let him go…let them play together in the ocean waves. There is no time like the present…I am glad they at least hung out in the sand. That was an incredibly sweet scene.
I think that when he’s older he’ll appreciate you more. It was the same with me, except flipped, I loved my parents and siblings. Now not so much, I’m going to maintain being alone for as long as I can.
I’m the oldest of 4 and i genuinely feel this, for the past few years I’ve been high or drunk “dealing” with my issues and I’ve missed out on so much it really hurts when I think about it....i just thank god I stopped before I got worse because life’s short and I cannot imagine missing another moment. Currently I go to therapy and take antidepressants but the non stimulant kind, I’m not 100% but I rather feel mostly nothing than feel everything and destroy my future....I’m only 21
I'm the same age as you, the same struggle, the same number of younger siblings. Three years ago I left them alone with my depressed mother and my helpless father bc I couldn't take it anymore. I visit home frequently but I still feel like I betrayed them and left them behind to fend for themselves. My younger sister has even said so herself. Although she doesn't blame me personally she says the burden passed onto her until she moved out a few months ago. Sometimes you did all you could until you reached your own breaking point. Don't feel bad about yourself for drowning your sorrows when it's the most available option to cope in this trainwreck we call society. 'Be not too hard for life is short and nothing is given to man'...
I told my parents about this film. They went to the cinema/movies and watched it... and now I am the beautiful boy that they saw for years again, at 31. You can move past the dead beat darkness, just put yourself into it. I am now a role model for both my nephews... my neice kind of hates me and everybody because she is in her teens. I will win her over too. Love to everybody struggling with addiction, family pain and those that feel that they can't do anything about it. You can - just do it in the right way.

I found this film heart breaking and hit home with people I care about with addictions. I was very affected by it. Brillant performances and direction.
Im really hoping that Timothee takes the same approach to acting that the greats are taking, i.e. , focus on the craft rather than the awards. If your craft is good, you'll get the recognition. Take Leonardo and Joaquin and Pitt as examples. As much fame as they've had, they have been committed to the craft. If he takes that approach, the approach to become a great actor rather than to become a celebrity, this kid is going to be one of the best actors our generation will ever witness.
Its like Timmy has his peach scene and his beach scene but btw hes a brilliant actor his acting seems like hes just improvising or just it really seems like real life
What can I say about this scene is, that, when you feel strange in a society, you clinge to the children, the most innocent ones, that just want to have fun. The adults are boring. @@NotteCloud so sorry to hear this. I hope your brother is ok and you've been able to heal. Much love
This scene should have been the ending scene imo. Either way, this was the most memorable scene due to the longer take and the acting. Felt genuine.

this was someones actual life
This is the moment when everything seemed calm, the days in between the bad days.
The end was perfect because not every ending is a fairy tale-
It kind of messes with your head because you don’t know if Nick hearing that would’ve triggered him into thinking that he can’t change
