  • I love the look of triggerfish. They just look so different from traditional fishes and usually have some great colors on them. Before this trip, I had hoped that I'd be able to catch a lagoon triggerfish (Rhinecanthus aculeatus) at some point. I knew they were in the area and others have caught them before, but you never know. I was very pleasantly surprised when one of them ended up on the end of my line. This was a rather slow session, but the lagoon triggerfish more than made up for it. Thanks to fish_devotee ( / fish_devotee ) and Daiki ( / __daikimaru__ ) for their help during this Okinawa trip.

Those were some great catches especially the triggers and sandperch! I do like the idea of you putting up the species number for your lifer catches. I'm starting to regret that my trip to Japan was cancelled 😒.

I'll try to implement that in future videos. If you can make it out to Japan at some point I definitely recommend it. Not even counting the fishing, Japan is my favorite country that I've ever visited.

Great session. I caught dozens of those Picasso Triggerfish on lures during my Japan trip. Beautiful fish 👍

U should fish the creeks/swampy waters of the NC sandhills
They got cool pine barrens fish and a rare sandhills chub found nowhere else

Its on my list. There are too many amazing places to fish around the world and nowhere near enough time to fish them. Hopefully I'll be able to make it up there at some point.

What are the fishing regulations like in Japan, or even the process of getting a permit? Anything I’ve googled only described it as “not very clear or easy to obtain for foreigners” lol.

I have been meaning to ask the same questions.

Japan and most countries that I'm aware of don't have a license or anything for recreational fishing. Ive fished about a dozen countries and I think only 3 required a license for recreational fishing.

When you show all the species you caught that day could you put new species by the name of the fish you caught that was a new species for your life list. Because it gets really confusing if you caught a new species for your life list or if it's just a new species for that area but it's already on your life list. Me personally I'd like to know if you caught a new species for your life list and not area specific.

Good suggestion. That's definitely something I can consider doing. I also want to start adding the number a species is if it gets added to my lifelist. For example let's say the lagoon triggerfish was my 440th different species I've ever caught, I want to start noting that as well.
