Hi Kalyn! I love the idea of using the four different systems. I'm a late bloomer to the planner/journal idea. I started a bullet journal in 2020 in a small notebook. I then bought a Leuchtturn 1917 and started it but just got over trying to be creative. I'm not very artistic or creative. Just as I decided to try the disc journal, you changed to something else, LOL! Anyway, I have decided to actually put together, and use the disc journal for 2024. I really like the looks of the H&O planner, though. I have tried a few times now to download the Find Your Match guide, but I still haven't received it.

I am sorry that you’re having trouble with the Find Your Match guide! It should come to you in an email after you subscribe- could it have made it into a spam or junk folder? If it’s not going there, please do feel free to send an email and we will be sure you get it. I hope your planner in 2024 works exactly how you want it to!

I have gone back and forth between digital apps and planners, but finally in 2023 settled back into my bullet journal with my hybrid digital notebook taking app and Google calendar - because I saw a video with Ryder Carrol (the bullet journal’s creator) explaining how he uses a hybrid digital and bullet journal system - and it finally just clicked for me. I “journal” in my daily logs, and I’ve realised the importance of reviewing at the end of each month from my daily pages - what I’ve watched, read, followed, thought, felt, achieved, overcame - so when I review my year, those are the pages I draw data from. For your new pre-planned journal, you don’t have the freedom to do this; however you could achieve the same by just going back at the end of each month and fill in any blanks. We never set aside enough time to review our week or our month and just revisit ourselves… to make it easier to go back and revisit ourselves over time. We eventually get better at adding more and better information into our journals, for easier recall - it’s a muscle that needs to be developed; yet we also at the same time need to simplify how we do it - get better at rapid note taking - because if it’s too hard or too much work we simply drop off. I also have a seperate notebook for knowledge/study - same as you😊. I’ve been using Craft Docs, the Apple version of Notion, but interested in possibly a return to Notion - I’ll look at your Notion videos😊. And Google Calendar is my bible😂 - if it’s not in my calendar, it doesn’t exist😂. New subscriber.

Welcome! :) Having those end of month pages to look back over at the end of a year is so handy!

I also go back and forth, including Notion, but while I know the importance the monthly (weekly, to be honest) reviews, it’s a habit I’ve struggled to maintain.i also want to love the Leuchturrm, but the paper is just a bit too thin for the pens I use (I’m starting to sound like the princess &the pea…”the Prince and the Planner”). That Hemlock & Oak is gorgeous - I switched mid-year to a B5 Archer & Olive that has been feeling spacious, sturdy, and welcoming.

This was so fun to watch, Kalyn! I always love crawling inside your brain and hearing how you think through your process and develop a system that works for you RIGHT now. The fact that you plan for long term but don’t stress if you need to change it up seems super healthy to me-I aspire to be more like you in this way! Also, your video editor is rocking it. 😉 Loved the hearts moment! 💕

I have been using Hemlock & Oak religiously since 2022 and, let me assure you, you will not regret it. Not only are the designs gorgeous, but everything is made sustainably and the customer care team always go the extra mile to make you feel valued. It's like a luxury brand but with warmth, if that makes sense. Everything about their products shows you just how much thought and care went into making it - it all gets a personal touch. I just cannot say enough good things about them as a company (and, no, I'm not a brand ambassador). I've used the undated weekly planner, the lined notebook, and for 2024 I am using the Minimalist Weekly planner but I am giving serious consideration to trying the daily planner to use alongside it. I am excited to see how you put it to use (it might sway me one way or the other 😅). All the best in 2024!

FYI - digital has everything paper does except the bulkiness. I know it isn’t for everyone, but don’t discard the digital idea because you want to hand write almost everything. I take all my notes, make my lists, plan my life digitally and most of it is handwritten except my calendar. I scribble off notes for classes, sermons, ideas, etc. in 1 app. Then, I transfer them to the appropriate permanent app by handwriting them and decorating with digital stickers, washi tapes, etc. I can make them interactive by including hyperlinks (easy peasy in most apps). So if all paper or even a hybrid system isn’t working, consider trying digital.

    • @KalynBrookeCo
      @KalynBrookeCo  11 місяців тому +1

Loved this perspective! I think that it’s very true that you can do more and more of the creative side with digital than ever before which for some of us is a good push to let go of paper products over time. Thank you for sharing. :)

I’m using a combo of Notion, iCal, Notes and Reminders for digital and I have a Hobonichi Cousin for daily planning and journaling, a Traveler’s Notebook in passport size for every day carry and a Leuchtturm 1917 in A5 size for note taking. A lot of things get duplicated between the digital and analog worlds, but after my heart attack in 2021 I need both to actually remember things. It really helps keep things organized. :)

I decided to stop buying planners this year. I have a big monthly calendar on the wall for my family, but everything is on my phone.
I use the apple calendar since it’s always with me and shows my next event on the locked screen and my watch. On Sunday I make sure my phone calendar and wall calendar match so I don’t miss anything.
For my brain/to do list I use the reminders app. I like setting the day and times I want tasks to repeat and then not having to remember them anymore or rewrite the info over and over again.
For my meal planning and grocery shopping list I use the MealBoard app.
Oh, and the notes app. I use that daily too.

Great video!! I have been hybrid planning and journaling for three years now. I use my iPad for my digital planning through the GoodNotes app. I am completely digital for planning out my days and all of my budgeting and finances. And I am mostly analog for my journaling (daily journaling, commonplace and goal setting). Every now and then I do digital journaling in my GoodNotes journals. I have a digital film/tv journal and a digital reading journal for tracking and writing reviews. I also use my phone calendar to keep track of any appointments and meetings.

I use plain notepaper in a 3 inch binder, and one page every day, for my daily to do list. Very inexpensive and it stays flat. I use a big lined journal for my commonplace book. I use to doist, apple reminders, apple notes, fantastical calendar. But still need a way to track and manager tasks better. I went through bulllet journals and many planners before I came to this easy way to organize my life.

They are kind of similar? I don't have personal experience with ClickUp, but from what I've gathered watching friends and colleagues use it, ClickUp is great for out-of-the-box project management and collaboration with others. But they don't (I think) have page building and database features and it is not as customizable as Notion.

I honestly find this to work best for me. I like to know *everything* I need to do at a glance, instead of flipping back and forth between two notebooks and hoping I don’t miss something important. Of corse, it really is a personal preference and may be something that wouldn’t work for every business/personal combo. But I think using color coding, two columns or some other way to quickly pick out business related tasks versus personal makes one notebook for both very feasible and practical for many scenarios!

The free version is plenty for personal use! Notion finally removed their block limits so you have unlimited options to build out each page. The only drawback with the free version depends on how many files you want to upload. You have a limit of 5GB which you use up fast if you're trying to go paperless and upload documents inside Notion. But other than that, you have plenty to work with!

I have not set up 2024 other than work. I may turn my disc planner into a bullet journal. You have spoiled me with your pages, but I like to add my “swirls”.

You still have a little bit of time! I do often think that a discbound planner makes the perfect bullet journal. You can rearrange pages as opposed to keeping them in the order they come inside a bound notebook.

I know, right?! They do offer a six-month version, but it only comes in the undated design.

Loved what info I could watch... but the constantly changing focal points had me seasick. Had to click out about 1/3 of the way through

So your daily is not what you want to do but more of “what you did do”?

My daily is what I WANT to do. But I use my Master Task List to help me know what I need to do that day, then I sprinkle in a few other things that came up but didn’t make it into Notion.

Doesn't seem very manly or gentleman friendly. But I think I can tweak it a bit. 😅 I'll watch some other videos.

Good video, but once again why do UA-camrs zoom in to their face so close.
    Narcissistic or what...

It’s called keeping people engaged because their attention spans are so teeny tiny.😄
