- In the PROFINET world, PROFINET Real-Time (RT) and PROFINET Isochronous Real-Time (IRT) are common terms. But, what is the difference between PROFINET RT and IRT? This video makes a detailed comparison that includes mechanisms, applications, implementation options, such as cabling, switches, topologies, and more...

Thanks a lot for the video. Much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
i'm still confused about the IRT and TSN
but anyway
very useful information , Thanks so much,
We will make an explanation between those two :)
This technology page can help you understand some core differences: us.profinet.com/digital/tsn/#go_btns
Thanks for watching!
It is beautiful❤
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this. Would I be right in thinking that PROFINET over TSN would require special switches? If so , is there any commercially available one from a PORFINET vendor(Siemens) etc. ?
They will need to support TSN, and they will be available broadly through multiple vendors.
Thanks for watching!
Could you also do a video on firewall design for Profinet network between the PLC and Profinet devices and other aspects of network security? TIA
That's a good one, thanks for the idea! We will add it to our project list
@@MinutePROFINET That would be brilliant.
Thank you for this vedio, i have a question
I have a machine in my company which has PROFINET communication in it's devices, it has 8 devices connected to the plc through Siemens Scalance xb208 switch ,and everything is working ok, but the problem is i have a local ETHERNET network in my company and i wanted to read data from this machine, so i extended a cable from my local network to the Scalance switch and i can read data normally but there is a little problem that every one or 2 minutes the SCALANCE switch led get red(fault) and PLC also for some seconds but the plc keep running and it didn't go to stop mode, all the IP'S are different and at the same subnet but i don't know why when i connect my network to the PROFINET network it make a fault and when i disconnect my network plug, the SCALANCE switch and plc leds became green with no errors
I hope you can helpe about that and than you in advanced
Hi @ahmed abd allh , thank you for your inquiry. Since your questions are quiet specific, we recommend contacting the device vendor or the PROFI Interface Center. Here is some contact information: profiinterfacecenter.com/contact/
Is Profinet IRT also based on the Ether frame 0x8892 and directly communicates between layers 2 and 7? I am slightly confused here. TIA
PROFINET RT has the Ethertype of 0x8892 to send messages directly from layer 2 to 7 , PROFINET IRT employs additional mechanisms for a higher degree of determinism. Still, both communication channels are based on Ethernet.
@@MinutePROFINET Thank you for responding.
What's difference between ethernet and profinet??
Good question! This video have a detailed answer ua-cam.com/video/haDKT2kZnLA/v-deo.html
