    Hey Peter. I like the black hole bit. I actually own a Canon XF605. Works well for conference gigs and run and gun situations. Sometimes a Camcorder fits the bill.

      The XF605 seems like a great tool for a lot of situations. I was very impressed. How long have you been using it? What has been the biggest drawback?
      I can add you to the Black Screen Project donor list 😂

      @PDMokry the camera has been a solid performer for me in outside run and gun situations. The one thing that is a small drawback is when you are opened up to the widest aputure, 2.8 and then you zoom in, it goes to f4. Just the limitation of the lens. Not too much of an issue but something to be aware of. The fixed L lens is decent though. I typically use the C70 for more cinema style shoots and the xf605 as the b cam.

      @@danielbranam8503 I had the same issues with the 18-200mm from Sony. Constant aputure is nice but for such a wide zoom range, I get the need for it to change. Great to hear it is working out for you.
      It might come into play for my long form conference shoots.

    Corporate ‘cut and paste’ work where you follow a ‘formula’ (which the client likes because everyone else is doing it) isn’t always the most fun but when they pay your dayrate it’s all good. Living where I do, I rarely turn down anyone who is actually willing to pay my dayrate, even if it’s kind of boring work. Boring usually also means no drama which is good.

      So true! There are certain types of shoots I will always pass up, like weddings. But I never have a standard of the gig needing to be interesting or fun. Getting paid takes priority. Now when I started out, I chased the travel and exciting shoots/content. Then adulting kicked in.

    Came here from the Canon XF605 Facebook page. I own 1 XF605. For this type of shoot, I would use Tentacle Track E bodypack recorders and TC to the camera using Tentacle Sync E TC units. Quite a challenging situation. Thanks for sharing.

      Welcome! I would have loved a better and safer audio solution. The client took the advice of the rental house for the full kit. So we hist went with it. It is crazy how we are hired as experts then ignored for our expertise.
      Thank you for watching!

      I'm running that same setup! The only time I would use wireless now is livestreaming. If it's for post-production, tentacle sync all day. Specially when you have multiple different speakers, that speak in different volumes, with 32bit recording, there is no worry for peaking/clipping. Also, there is no cutouts from interference or distance. Tentacle Sync timecodes and recorders are the biggest and best investments I have made in the past year.

    • @PaulsMedia2024
      @PaulsMedia2024 Рік тому

      I had tested my XF605 for drift compared to the Tentacle Sync E, and there was no drift. So that means I can jam sync the 605, and not need to have the Tentacle stay connected, but could move it to another device if needed. I'm very happy with the 605.

    This shoot feels a lot like some of our corporate live streams we produce. Bread & butter work to pay the bills, not creative, just procedural. On these jobs, our function is more to make sure that signal and good audio are being recorded rather than making sure there is killer lighting and amazing camera work. We just bought an XF-605 for our live streaming company. For a one piece camcorder, they are actually pretty good cameras.
    We own five cinema cameras but when you are doing live event work, having a 30X (in 1080) zoom on the XF-605 can be incredibly valuable, the longest lenses we own for our cinema cameras top out at 400mm while the 605, in 1080, will get you out to 765mm! They are the right tool for a lot of live and corporate event type of work. I agree, not everything needs or should look cinematic, especially for internal, procedural corporate work, and more importantly, these type clients won't pay to make things look cinematic, which takes more time, money and resources.
    I cringe at the chances of wireless RF issues with four G4s being used in four rooms without a sound mixer but I totally get that that's what you have to work with on shoots like these. Supervising multiple cameras in multiple rooms can be challenging but these days, corporate clients are all about doing it as inexpensively as possible for in-house training materials. This was a nice look at one of your gigs that a lot of us have to do to pay the bills. Your friend whose gig it was seems like a good guy, it's important to work with great people when the two of you have 4-6 persons work to do with just the two of you!

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Рік тому +1

      Kitting out multiple cameras takes up a lot of time, so having them be turnkey really made it nice. All matching and with the same lenses made it so easy. I was impressed with focal range too.
      I think a lot of new people to our industry struggle when it cones to shoots like this. It is not always a fun and exciting subject. The boring stuff often pays the same as the fun stuff.
      Robert is great to work with and he knows the struggles on set. He shoots full time, so we get a long very well and overcome obstacles quickly.
      Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment!

    Personally I have a policy to only use my own gear. One aspect is money ,but to be honest , after some nightmares shoots , its totally to avoid the anxiety of working with gear 1 that I don't know inside out 2 Has not been prepped right and then on the day ,its my problem . , happened in the past and I vowed never again . And cards that don't work ! Very ;least I'll be the one renting / prepping it.

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Рік тому +2

      I am pretty much the same way, but the allowed a full day of prep, so we agreed to it. If it was a more technical shoot, we would have pushed for our gear.
      I hate having to relearn a system or somebody leaves a crazy setting on the camera. But the locked off shots made it easy to match and dial in the settings. The tripods were pure junk, it was hard even getting the level with a tiny payload.
      What camera do you shoot on?

      @@PDMokry I have an fx9 and an fx3 , fx3 gimbal /B camera , or a few jobs its been the main camera . I ve been Sony way back to Betacam / Digibeta / PMW500 / F5 / FX9 .. Only once leaving for a Panasonic HDX900 fleetingly. Doubt I would change now .I lost some work because I really didn't like the C300 form factor , and wouldn't work with it, when C300 was all the rage. But cant see Sony being knocked of near total domination now , in my market , doc / corporate , any time soon.
