Love the streamdeck idea you slipped in there. That definitely opens up all kinds of possibilities. I used the built in Pismo prompt generator to make a "Change To Active Voice" prompt to make my writing more engaging.
Well.. after running the prompt on my comment, I got this... "I created a "Change To Active Voice" prompt using the built-in Pismo prompt generator to make my writing more engaging."
Thanks for the in-depth video. It feels like this tool would really benefit from a switch to the new o1 chat model, which is better at things like spelling.

The thing grammarly does which I really like is underline or highlight potential grammar issues. Things I would not have spotted without it being underlined. It does that without any action from the user, It's just underlined automatically Is that a feature of pismo? It didn't look like it from the demo. I guess my point is I wouldn't know that I needed to correct some text in the first place, so wouldn't check If it's not highlighted ;)
Hey Ademcface... good point! No Pismo doesn't actively read your text, you have to submit it to the LLM. In my experience Grammarly is a massive resource hog because it's analyzing everything. So like most things, there are pros and cons. Personally, I use the built-in spell check on MacOS for spelling/grammar mistakes and use an LLM for writing assistance when needed. Thanks for the feedback! It is a very valid point.
Yep, same. I don't want to have to highlight text manually to see if I have a typo. I already have desktop AI writers I can access by quickly clicking their icons (2 of them sit on my sidebar) if I want help with rewriting a sentence/paragraph.
It uses GPT-4o Mini so it will be limited by that. From Pismo’s website: While Pismo is designed to handle a large amount of text, there may be practical limits depending on the complexity and length of the content. For optimal performance, we recommend processing text in smaller sections if needed.
@@dave-swift Hey...I bought Pismo the top tier...but am not sure if the affiliate link of yours was still taken into account....hope the cookie period is long enough for you to register the sale...
This would be good if somehow it can be trained on your voice (written), that way it can sound like you are actually responding. (Even better, multiple voices, your professional voice, casual, etc.)

Yes -- It is for windows too. Pismo supports multiple languages for text improvement and translation. You can also create custom prompts in languages other than English.
It's the same thing as Jasper no difference, The issue with ChatGPT for grammar is that it uses words that are not well known to others. This is a fundamental problem with ChatGPT generally. Grammarly isn't the best either, but there are better on the market too.
@@dave-swift I agree but tell that to the apps like Superhuman, Trello, Shortwave and others. Jasper is the only one similar that you can tell it to write at a different level because it allows for prompt control, most the apps that have AI, don't allow that.
I feel that GPT is outdated right now. I prefer Gemini, but I don't like their privacy policy. For rewriting/paraphrasing, the best for me is Quillbot, the results are not detected by AI checkers because they have been using their own AI before GPT hype. However, I purchased Pismo because this is the only standalone AI translator available on the market.
Tried it…the user interface is really bad! Confusing and difficult to find around. I guess one need a proper AI to figure out how to use it. The intentions of the founders is great though…but they missed the target. Looks like they launched a too early Beta for public testing.
@@dave-swift yes - exactly - on Windows. I think it was initially made for Mac. The settings of prompts etc is really tricky on Windows. Tried all sorts of UI “tests/trails” and it needs a makeover. Just try to remove the “Translate to French” (it seems to be a pre-programmed default besides English) and replace it with another language. Initially you also need to reboot your computer to get the highlighted prompt to be displayed etc. I might sound too harsh - but I have tried quite a bit of software packages over time.

Thanks Angelo. That’s a great prompt idea.

o1 has some extreme usage limitations 👍
It could work in the future though.

Another great review. I'm fortunate to already have LTD for Voila
Great, @gfunk425. Hope you're putting it to good use!
Is it me or is this insane! Though I’ve had Chat for 2 yrs this seems 10x the efficiency 🎉
It is a pretty insane deal! $99 for unlimited is bonkers.
I can feel an air of Voilà with this one
For sure some overlap. Software is a commodity. This is he one that's available and low-cost right now :)

Hi! first of all thanks for reviewing this. By the way, do you think this could be an alternative to Voila AI?
It is similar for sure! Voila is billed as more of an all-around assistant, where Pismo is focused on writing.
Does Pismo check grammar? how many language is supported?
Yes, it check grammar and it supports all languages that GPT-4o mini supports (which is over a hundred).
Thank you very much. ... A question: Suppose i have a long document: What is the largest block of text that Pismo can work on ?
It uses GPT-4o Mini so it will be limited by that.
From Pismo’s website: While Pismo is designed to handle a large amount of text, there may be practical limits depending on the complexity and length of the content. For optimal performance, we recommend processing text in smaller sections if needed.
Do this app having appstore to get and not able to search in Microsoft store also...
It's available on the pismo website.
They could have added a team plan to Tier 2 at $99....great app though...might buy this one as I missed out on Voila
Team would be great! I missed Voila too.

Thanks @ManishKumar-bx5un. I'm not sure if I got credit but I appreciate you thinking of me. The cookie time is 7-days.

Yes, that would be amazing.
That is the eventual promise.
How does this compare with Voila?
I haven't used Voila. They seem similar. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
what's the shortcut key to open pismo, in windows?
Usually you just swap out Cmd for Ctrl, but I don't have a Windows machine to check.
What are the maximum characters you can rewrite

Does it work in German??
Yes -- It is for windows too. Pismo supports multiple languages for text improvement and translation. You can also create custom prompts in languages other than English.
Voila released thier desktop version. Would you really need Pismo if you already have Voilà?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 👍

Just tell it to write at a 5th grade level, etc.
@@dave-swift I agree but tell that to the apps like Superhuman, Trello, Shortwave and others. Jasper is the only one similar that you can tell it to write at a different level because it allows for prompt control, most the apps that have AI, don't allow that.
I agree. Most legacy apps that added AI have not done a convincing job.

It's for Mac and Windows only.
the link doesn't work

Oh, wow I disagree. I found it extremely easy. Are you on Windows? Maybe it's not as good on Windows.

Isn’t new macOS getting ChatGPT baked in for this?
