Attended a weekend course of yours a number of years back. Got to forge a big ass chopper under your instruction. Have abused that thing to death and it's hidden tang handle has finally given up. Will be using these instructions to put a beefier guard on as the base for the new handle. Thanks for the excellent content!
Stuart,
I am about to mount nearly two dozen blades. THIS video was the one that make me actually look forward to it. THANK YOU. It was the simple stuff of peening the guard that was worth this video.
Stuart, your videos are great. I suck at hidden tang knives and you make it look simple and you tips are perfect. keep the videos going.
Your videos are absolutely top notch - excellent demonstration here. I agree 100% with HoutmeyersP - there are many videos on the web for knifemakers, several of them dealing with guard fitting - this is the best I've seen. Thank you!
Really appreciate all you videos I am in Texas and a novice knife smith and you really give good advice and tips oh and I really like some of the shirts you have keep doing what you do. Thanks
Your bench looks like mine. Stuff everywhere. Great channel mate thank you.
Brilliant video Stuart. I wish I had watched it sooner, lol.
Nice video Stuart. Thanks for sharing
Every time I watch one of your videos, I learn something new!
Awesome work mate!
Hoping if you have time, you will do a vid., on simple back yard heat treatment, and tempering, and straightening the blade. your videos are great, use them all the time for reference, especially this one.....Thanks Chery-o from the USA

Stuart
Love your videos.Still catching up on them all.
I impressed with your belt sander and how quickly you change the belts for various grit sizes.
What brand are they?
Do not know if they are available in Australia.
I hand cut and grind brass onto my axe handles by hand .Very time consuming .Plan to move into knives this year using pre cut blanks.
Any info on your belt sander would be helpful.

Nice Bow-wie Knife Mate
Thank you for your time to produce these videos. Better than anything on the satellite or web. Can you tell us the manufacturer of your belt grinder. I prefer its method of fabrication to one I just spent 3g on. Thanks again.
Why does my guard fit either offset or all wobbly and what not? I like you Mr Smith, I shall study your video's very closely to learn the secrets!
Hard to say without seeing your work directly. First guess is you have filed your hole too large. That would account for wobbliness. Off set is just symmetry that needs practice.
Is your belt grinder made by Herbst? I could not identify the manufacturer, but wanted to see if they were available in the US or if I could order from your supplier in S.Africa. Many world class knife makers in S. Africa. My older Chris Reeves knives are marked: "made in S. Africa". Always wanted to go to Africa but, probably will never be able to afford it.
Eye protection!?!?!
Why bronze instead of brass?
I find bronze more pleasant to work than brass. It drill cleaner and is less 'sticky' under files and sanders. Also brass takes a much nicer patina, in my opinion, when it ages. Having said that, brass is a perfectly acceptable material to use, just I prefer bronze.
Thank you for the explanation. Just noticed other makers use it as well. I grew up with brass available not so much with bronze, always associated it with ancient times for some reason.
Jim Bowie.. pronounced booee not bowee lol. BEAUTIFUL KNIFE THOUGH
