My family rotties never pulled. We trained them since day 1, even rescued adult dogs. Our rotties always, even off-leash, stayed with the pack/leader or like our first rottie, with me and my sister when we were little kids. Even when my sister and I played with other kids on playground, our first rottie always stayed near us. She was so devoted to our family.

You’ve been lucky. My first two rottis where abused rescues. One had been a kennel and breeding dog who went to different countries to breed for different people. She was just an object to make money and so her trust for humans was broken and now I keep her even though I was only meant to rehabilitate her because she can’t trust other people unless I am there. My other Rottweiler was extremely huge. He came from huge huge old lines and was bought and raised in an abusive environment because the owner wanted him to be scary and aggressive and that dog never got attention until he came to me. He has PTSD and trauma and so he is so chill with me now but I’ve worked non stop for a year now and he still is not able to have a trust with others. I met him and he was chained to the bed of a truck with custom leather gear and custom muzzle and a shock collar that was used non stop. So training him not to pull has been really hard. As of now all of my dogs are not leash trained. They are a pack and they know me as the leader and my big girl backs me up and keeps pack order. But as for leash and such the dogs have lost their trust for humans handling them and so I just let them live their pack life

it sounds like you had someone else teach her to heel and you werent there? if so, youve essentially taught your dog to heel for the trainer and not yourself, you need to be involved in the process or it doesnt work.

Thank you!! I have a now 1yr old rottie - sweet as can be; loves everyone she meets - but, does have the tendency to get so over the top excited to people that she just loses her mind and forgets all training … I need to learn how to deflect/deter that

Every single time I have a question or an issue with my rottie you put out a video that walks me through it with ease! (Well as easy as a rottie is lol)
I've been watching your videos for the last year and I've learned so much about raising a rottie.. The only thing I couldn't break and I really don't mind, so not a big deal, is that she sleeps where she wants.. but she's pulling so hard and if she sees something I have a hard time pulling her back because I'm already off my center of balance leaning back to try and counter the pull.. As soon as I am done with work, I'm going and putting your tips to work! I can't wait to get home!

    Hi Will,
Do you recommend a harness for a Rottie once it’s about 6 months old?
