The Monster of Lake Tota
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2021
- This video is about a creature that allegedly inhabits the largest lake in Colombia, Lake Tota. I'm skeptical of lake monster claims, but the creature's origin, mythology, history, and context is certainly fascinating.
A few notes.
#1. I watched three docs on the Muisca, every expert pronounced it differently: Moose-ee-kuh, Mew-Skuh, Music-huh. I couldn’t find a single British expert saying it out loud, so I can’t be certain which is correct. (that was a joke, but damn do they have credibility with pronunciation)
#2. I spent all night cobbling this together. I’m not certain if the video at 1:22 is intentional or not… It seems like an accident, but it kind of makes sense. So…
#3. Can you find the hidden lions?

Us bigfoots usually avoid deep water just in case it contains a sea monster
I read some cases where Sasquatch in British Columbia and Alaska. Swim up and climb on boats or are seen in swimming in water before they submerge. Chimps and Orangutans are capable of swimming
@@DigitalSniper18 Chimps can be taught how to swim but it is extreamly exhaustinh for them. They don‘t naturally know how to swim and will drown if they fall in water
How did I just know you would be here? 😂

@@DigitalSniper18 Chimps don't naturally swim, that's why in zoos chimpanzees are always on an island surrounded by water
I don't consider this video to be particularly well done or awe-inspiring, but I'm trying to grow some discipline and actually finish all the shorter subjects that I start but never finish. In addition to my longer videos.
Thank you all so much,
Bobby G.
Great video as always Bob, I'm just curious, where did you get that thumbnail lake monster photo from?
Do you post edit your videos after uploading them on youtube? Like updating old videos with new visual images. Because I swear on re watching some of your old videos I noticed some images and photos that I don't recognize. And I re watch your videos all the time so I tend to notice when I see something new that wasn't there before. or maybe I'm just losing my mind lol
Thank you for the video. Nice to see logic used in skepticism.

@@DigitalSniper18 I do not. I don't even think that's possible. You can trim an uploaded video, but not add.
It WOULD take a mad Scotsman to go to the island in the hopes of challenging a sea monster when everyone else was too scared

Honestly same if I hear something strange I rather not know and think it was a bear than have that "bear" take my arm off and beat me with it
does anyone else see some similarities with Lord of the Rings "watcher in the water"? I wonder if this story was the inspiration for that. Particularly the idea that the lake itself is poisoned by the creature.
@@MrChickennugget360 I'd say this story and many like it are an inspiration for a lord of the rings

Colombian here. The fact you went above and beyond in the research in regards to the culture, history and geography is why I love this channel. Also, a slight correction: the legend of El Dorado came from an actual Muisca ritual were their Zipa (southern ruler) would cover himself in gold dust, climb aboard a raft and throw jewels and golden trinkets into Lake Guatavita.
The legend of El Dorado as a lost, golden city came as result of poor re-tellings from the original tale, the name "El Dorado" actually means "The Golden One", in reference to the gold-covered Zipa. I've actually been to Lake Guatavita and let me tell you, it's a quiet, beautiful yet very ominous and eerie place.
Canadian here is it scary living in colombia? I mean it must be beautiful there but at the same time I heard it can be quite rough I guess there would be better areas and rougher areas right? I mean it's the same way in Canada not to the same extent but you don't want to go to BC that's for sure I live in Ontario it's slightly better here other than Toronto
Thanks for sharing that clarification and history!
Some European tried to drain the lake last century. The spot they dug is still visible on one side of the lake. I read a book on the dudes obsession with it. He actually got a few thousand worth of gold from dragging the lake. But spent a fortune trying to drain it.

I haven't watched the video yet, but had something I wanted to say to Bob directly. I, for a long while, have been a skeptic. Be it anything, religion, extraterrestrial life, cryptids, paranormal activity, you name it. Despite my lifelong fascination with these subjects, for many years I've been very comfortable in my cynicism toward them, and my confidence in straightforward explanations in regard to their true nature. Watching your videos religiously for the past 6 or so months has stirred something in me however. You have a painstakingly reasonable, almost mathematical approach to things generally regarded as mystical or unknowable. And through applying your perspective to my own, I feel like I've gained a deeper appreciation for many things, man. Im still a skeptic, I'm not an avid believer in anything I wasn't before. However, you've allowed me to take a step back and appreciate the POSSIBILITY of things outside my immediate understanding, rather than hamfistedly swatting those ideas away with a pompous know it all attitude. It's made me a better thinker. And any time you upload, I'm there immediately. Thank you Bob. You're the man.
Like Bob I am a trained biologist, and also like him I am incurably fascinated by subjects best left unbroached among colleagues. Skepticism is good, very good, unfortunately there are a lot of people, including extremely intelligent people, who somehow do not know the difference between skepticism and cynicism. That is, doubting because of insufficient evidence versus doubting because of a default assumption about people being deceptive, crazy, and/or ignorant, and therefore inherently unreliable witnesses. Maintaining the difference between these two "tools" is harder than ever, given the (admittedly brilliant) ways that entities with agendas have seized the power of the internet, using deception to gain support of the crazy and ignorant.
Case in point, if you were a corporate administrator who wanted to protect your deep investments in fossil fuels, you'd find it very hard to convince many scientists to throw away the whole meaning of their careers, even with better money, to become clowns who denounce climate science. It's much easier, cheaper, and more effective to sow doubt in science at the fundamental level, train your guard dogs with what they like, meat instead of whistles. If you can convince people who already believe in an almighty but invisible god that evolution is Satanic propaganda, and/or that the Smithsonian keeps Nephilim skeletons hidden from the public, along with proof of the Great Flood in global regions outside the Middle East, etc., then they will happily help you protect your oil revenues, because scientists must be lying about that too.
All this to say, skepticism is healthy and essential, but blind cynicism is literally insane and stupid. And look how bitter it makes people. My happy place, and I highly recommend it, is an oxymoron: devout agnosticism, LOL.
Open Mind ?
@@audreymuzingo933 I have been in-and-out of various sceptic/fortean/atheist communities for about 35 years (since before the internet). I think it's very rare, especially these days to find people who are sceptical because of insufficient evidence, and yet still find wonder in the mystery, or enjoyment in trying to come up with explanations.
The vast majority wish to debunk and will quickly jump to any explanation to both discredit the evidence and belittle the people presenting it. This seems to be the point for many.
Scepticism as a community, became very unhealthy quite a while ago, for a number of reason, but not least because it became fashionable.
@@audreymuzingo933 Not to mention, any scientists who may think that there are changes taking place in our climate, but may disagree on the results of that change (like maybe the world is not going to end in 10 years) or what may be causing it (and/or both) are quickly lumped-in with the lunatic fringe. AND lumped-in with the "oil-financed skeptic" community. This too has led to making adult conversations about the changes taking place even more difficult.
@@Doxymeister I don't know of any scientists saying the world is going to end in 10 years.

I was in yellowstone 2 weeks ago. I was surprised how much bigfoot/sasquatch history/lore, encounters and sightings, merchandise, statues, signs, and other Sasquatch related stuff was outside and inside the park. I drove through Montana and when you see how much WILD still out there it makes you more of a believer that something intelligent, surgical, and observant can remain hidden out there.
Come on out to Washington State. Plenty of places here for thing to hide. I have had family members that have seen Sasquatch. My Mom is one of them
Translation: To hell with logic man, I saw a big forest, damn man, must be something else out there coz it's big and I got spooked :DDD
What’s the Bigfoot stuff at Yellowstone?
After traveling the US back and forth from East to West coast for work I've come to the conclusion that there isn't enough evidence for either case. To many places where it's a vastness without humans and there is a reason for that. A primate couldn't survive in conditions outside of what would be suitable for a human to survive in. Organically they need roughly what we do to survive

Hey Bob. It's great to see you post and I'm glad to catch it this early. You've hit alot of topics besides Bigfoot, especially recently that I've really enjoyed. You talk about subjects that are rare to find, which is great, because it means less personal bias. There's a certain topic though that I think is narrow enough to be settled in one video that may be up your alley: Fairies, the Fae, and even Doppelgangers. My favorite videos from Bob Gymlan are the ones about Bigfoot-type hominids. This story was good, but didn’t capture my imagination as strongly as “The Cowman of Copalis Beach”, “It Came Into The Tent”, or the “Myakka Skunk Ape.” This tale reminds me of the Heavenly Lake Monster; reportedly dwelling in the Chinese lake of a volcanic caldera. That beast is said to have a “buffalo’s head”; whereas the beast of Lake Tota has a “head like an ox.”
The stories that capture your imagination the most are the ones that are written most like a story and thus are the ones more likely to be faked.
