  • Just a few miles northwest of Toadstool is the site of a battle that took place on July 17, 1876 between the 5th U.S. Cavalry and around 300 Cheyenne. Buffalo Bill Cody was a scout for the Army during this battle. This battle resulted in the death of a warrior named Heova'ehe (Yellow Hair) and took place just three weeks after Custer's defeat at the Little Bighorn River in southern Montana.
