    The thing I love the most about shooting my flintlocks is that it isn't about how many rounds you shoot in a session or how fast. It's about each and every shot as an individual effort.

    For those who travel the rendezvous circuit, the Flathead Valley Muzzleloaders spring rendezvous is always the third weekend in May. Fall Rendezvous is the third weekend in September, fire season permitting. There are also monthly shoots, second Saturday in the month, as long as it doesn't conflict with other area rendezvous.

    Great video! A perfect advert of what a great day out looks like, along with some fine music as the background. It's a pleasure to see people enjoying their fine flintlock rifles. It looks like you all had a tremendous day.

    Love the video and the backing music.
    My black powder club events are cancelled at the moment. I am going out bush tomorrow to try to whistle up some foxes. After watching this I am tempted to leave the modern shooting iron at home and take the smoke pole.

      I know what your saying. I bought a pedersoli Kentucky flintlock 2 years ago. 1 weekend shooting and i fell in love. I had to learn from you tube how to use and care for a flintlock as nobody i know really use these guns anymore. After i got the hang of loading and priming its the only firearm i care to use. It really is a great loss to see so little of flintlocks in use today.

    I'm so upset I only caught the black powder bug at age 29. Started with a Lyman GPR kit (wish I had just browned it). I really wish I had folks like you around at my local ranges but only once in a blue moon or two, I see one other person making smoke. Figuring out BP completely on your own is fun and frustrating. Getting my first flinter now and hope to move on to the next challenge.

I was hoping you can give me some information on stuff like hunting , events, and locations. I lived in Idaho as a kid and loved the area. I need to get out of California before they infect me and I start thinking like them.

    A very good video. Your weapons are handmade and not Ardesa (Traditions) or Pedersoli. They shoot very well and the flint locks are excellent and fast. A greeting from a muzzleloading shooter from Spain.

    Klamath Falls Herald and News: Thursday, April 29th, 2010/Letters To The Editor. Updated on June 14th, 2012.
    A piece of history wasn’t part of the photo display
    The Monday Herald and News posted online the coverage of the “Mount Mazama Mountain Men re-enactment from the 1840s.” Unfortunately, I missed attending it. Be that as it may, the posted online photos didn’t depict the most commonly used firearm during this era: The Northwest Flintlock Trade Gun. Known also as Mackinaw Gun, Hudson’s Bay Fuke, fusee, Northwest Gun, London Musket, or simply Indian Musket this flintlock smooth-bore weapon was in common use in North America for 150 years. For too long the historic Northwest Flintlock Trade Gun has been ignored for the role in played in the development of the early America and Canada. In fact, contrary to popular myth, this primitive smoothbore flintlock fusil was the most commonly owned, used and carried firearms of not only native Americans, but fur trappers, French Canadian settlers, and mountain men. Appearing about 1750, these smoothbore trade guns were commonly .58 Caliber (24 gauge) and .62 caliber (20 gauge).
    They were versatile as a foraging survival gun while loading both solid round ball for deer, elk, and bear, or smaller lead shot for small game, including birds and waterfowl. Even today, a skilled woodsman could still survive and forage off the land while utilizing a Northwest Flintlock Trade Gun in replica form. North Star West at www.northstarwest.com is a firm specializing in historical reproductions of early black powder muzzle loaders. In fact, I recall a former exhibit at the Klamath County Museum depicting the early fur trade era of our region. Pieces of an original Northwest Flintlock Trade Gun were displayed inside the glass. This fusil was discovered along the Sprague River in 1949.

    The original serpentine side plate, flintlock cock, frizzen, iron barrel, buttplate, nails, screws, etc. remained as a history lesson for future generations of our bygone frontier past.
    James A. Farmer, Ashland Effective October 2016: Once again a resident of Klamath County, Oregon Long Live The State of Jefferson!
    Be sure to read the article in the November/December 2022 issue of The Backwoodsman (Magazine) on the Northwest Flintlock Trade Gun. Titled, "If You Could Only Have One Gun" by David Langerman, pages 68, 69

  • @thefishmerchant
    @thefishmerchant 6 років тому

    Did you ever get a chance to shoot one of the northwest trade guns? I'm thinking about either getting that in a kit or the fusil de chasse, and I don't know anyone who has shot either.

    • @waksupi
      @waksupi 6 років тому +2

      I'm one of the guys in the video. I've built over 150 NW Trade guns, and have won three world championships with smoothbores. They shoot as well as you are willing to practice. I can generally beat my rifle scores by a couple points on the same course. I recommend an Early English trade gun, as they weigh more than a nw gun, and I personally shoot a heavier gun better.

  • @Ghost_2366
    @Ghost_2366 Місяць тому

    Not being negative at all. Are range rods considered a traditional primitive tool in muzzleloading? I see most of these shooters using them. I use one to load my hunting rifles and when target shooting.

    • @FolkFirearmsCollective
      @FolkFirearmsCollective  Місяць тому

      Sometimes some elect to use them in order to preserve the rod that goes with the gun especially on a high volume trail walk with lots of loading. In a hunt or so - most just use the guns rod. Just personal preference is all I believe.
