So, so cool to see this here! NRK’s previous brand image with the LFT Etica font was getting outdated. When every Nordic broadcaster has a custom font (including TV 2 DK and NO), it was about time that NRK did the same. Those animating shapes are so similar to what Fox in the US did. This gives even more perspective to NRK and also Yle’s recent rebrands. The other broadcaster that comes to mind is of course the incredibly innovative VRT of Belgium, but sadly it does not have a custom font, instead using Roobert which has started to get more popular lately! Still, VRT is a trendsetter, though the OG in the Nordics was SVT, which rebranded back in 2016.
Last year there was a plan to change the whole visual identity of NRK as we see in this video , and like the BBC this is done gradually, but unlike the BBC, the design change began by the news department (NRK NYHETER) and not by the first channel completely because as we seen in the video of regional news intros compilation the schedule and the clock don't match with the new design of NRK NYHETER , I have already talked about the use of the logo in an abstract way which is a good way to rejuvenate the logo which is a classic, I can't wait to see the accomplishment of this process, and also I'm excited to see the new idents that will be broadcast on air. And I take this opportunity to say that I want ARD to update its visual identity especially for the typography, because the thesis font pack has become outdated, I know it was very ahead for the late 90s, and it's modern in the 2000s but now it's time to for an update by choosing a unique font that stands out from the competition (no fonts resembling helvetica please) or take examples from BBC, NRK, YLE, to create custom fonts.
I was going to say that! Yes, Thesis fonts are iconic, but honestly, it's time for a major rebrand! Even the identity on Das Erste needs a refresh! (somehow I starting to get tired of it, especially that "WERBUNG" rectangle thing on the break bumpers!) During the 2020s, quite a lot of broadcasters in Europe are smashing a complete logo change after using the previous logo for many years, such as the BBC, TV 2 Group, RTL Group, Polsat,...
Why is the broadcasters such as NPO, RTS (Swiss), Cartoon Network, SR (Germany), LTV and Nordvision partially rebranded and fully rebranded at a later date? I don't get it.
SO COOL!!🎉🎉
