This was my very first acting job. I'm the little boy in the bright orange jacket and blue Dallas cowboys cap. The night before the shoot, the casting office called dad to let him know I shouldn't arrive on set wearing any purple or green because Sellers was superstitious of those colors. It turned out to be the coldest day of the century, and I was too cold to move on the basketball court. So the cameras stopped roll. Director Hal Ashby came over to me. My mom came running from behind the police lines over to me, and before long I was surrounded by adults. Hal told everyone to go away because he didn't want me to be frightened. He didn't want to send me home, because he was concerned I'd get discouraged and never try to act again. So, he had a private conversation with me. He told me to stand behind the fence and watch the older kids play. Hal said Peter would stop a few feet to my right and then deliver a monologue to a man pushing a baby in a stroller. That monologue was dropped from the film. Jump ahead decades later and I'm here in Hollywood, California. : ) Thanks for sharing this video. Fun trip down memory lane!!!

A couple other favorites are The Party, where he plays an actor from India and Murder by Death where he plays a Chinese private eye. Both a joy to watch! Because of such diverse characters played so well by Peter Sellers, when people ask who is your favorite actor or who is the greatest actor of all time, I know trust there are many deserving but I have to say Peter Sellers. It’s amazing what he has done in an unfortunately short life.

I love this film and Peter Sellers in it, in his final role. It's a subtle yet brilliantly done satire with so many interesting layers to it. Chance the gardener, is like the blank screen for people to project all their own pre-conceptions and illusions on. The one dimensional TV screen, his only real contact with the outside world or society, acts as a metaphor or reference to this too in a sense.

As others have noted, this isn't Aaron Copland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man' (though you can also find a rock version of that by Emerson, Lake and Palmer) -- it's Deodato's version of Richard Strauss's 'Thus Spake Zarathustra,' released in 1973. (And Deodato didn't need Billy Preston to play keyboards for him.)

I loved the simplistic honesty in Chauncey, when he said quite frankly "I can't read" and was taken by an executive to mean, like himself, that he has no time to read. Too busy.
Our current occupant of the Oval Office can't read, although he says he knows the best words, etc. He couldn't hold Chauncey's balls in a bag.
