What makes this movie scarier than most is the accuracy of the dead boy's body. I've seen images of dead people, and the film makers certainly did their homework here.

This reminds me of a spirit Sukima-onna, one millimetre ghost, or girl of the gaps. A Japanese ghost living in the gaps and cracks, between dressers and walls, under beds, in the drawers, absolutely everywhere. Her eye is the only thing that are visible since she often appears to be peering. Gaps where thought to connect the living and the world of the dead. This ghost seem to take the opportunity.
I remember watching something like that a few years back. I'm not sure where, or how, but I had seen _something_ about an entity that lives in the gaps and cracks of spaces, attacking people when they got close to her location. Needless to say, it was pretty creepy. I no idea it was from a Japanese folklore. The more you know! Thanks. By the way, I really like your drawings.
This is literally how I watch horror movies, I can’t watch them because I HATE jump scares. So I’m ALWAYS looking out for when the next scary movie I was super interested in gets told to me in story formate with narration. Easy, no jump scares and all the story.
Same i dont like jumpscares. They are overused hurt my ears, gives me a headache. I dont fear the jumpscares, its annoying rather than fear. its like tickling someone during a comedy skit.
I’m argentinian, not all movies made here are great but I thought this one was a true gem, showed it to all my friends. I’m really happy it’s getting some recognition outside of my country ❤️❤️

Thanks FoundFlix
You know, I really like the concept of paranormal investigators who know what they're doing and treat blatantly supernatural occurrences as business as usual. "Ah, the dead boy came back as a zombie. Don't worry, I've seen this before." Not Ghostbusters or anything, just people who've been doing this sort of thing long enough to be used to it and have a basic idea of how to handle it. I'd like a whole sub-genre like that.

I recall reading a ghost story with a man who did not give two fucks. Apparently he broke a hole in his exercise room and uncovered a corpse. He thought the skull was neat so he stored it on a shelf. This caused ghosts to appear in his home, but instead of being afraid he just got pissed off and started punching wildly at the air, his fists connecting with something solid at times. When his friends, significantly more terrified at the situation than him, eventually brought a psychic medium, she was confused to find that the spirits were terrified of him, running out of the room whenever the homeowner entered it. In the end he found out that these spirits had been screwed over by a guy who was now in his 90's, so he kicked his ass and that made the ghosts pass on.

But wtf did the dead little boy have to do with anything? Was he one of those things ? Why wasn’t he acting like they were and killing people etc? So weird.
@Chance Welsh 100% agree but I also like to think its because he died first of more natural causes instead of the monsters taking over a living body first??
The point of the movie is that weird things are happening in the entire block. The demon is one thing, but there are more or it at least affect the entire block, seeing that the dead researchers can move wherever they want freely
@Chance Welsh Have him Mutate more as him being dead meant he had much less to offer as a host. (in terms of nutrients and less left to resist them how ever small that resistance was) I know my idea Isnt perfect but atleast its something.

It was a good film. Once you realized how powerful the entity was and the paranormal investigators were just intrigued and kind of oblivious to the danger, you knew how fked they were 😭
Yeah I think these things were not what they were used to. They had experiences with the paranormal, spirits and likely demons but not with these specific beings and they were taken out pretty quick!

I'm the same way! I'm a huge wimp,I can't handle any kind of horror / gore / spooky shit haha. She was into "scary stuff" so she'd watch things I was too scared to,then retell the story to me afterwards.

The thing with watching horror for the first couple of times is that you need to ease yourself into it. Most of us old-timer horror fans got introduced to horror by things like Hammer horror movies as kids, so those are usually a good place to start at - not too gory, and more reliant on an atmosphere of foreboding and tension, than jump scares. Watch mild, vanilla flavored horror films and slowly increase your scare factor incrementally, so when you see the real heavy duty horror later on, you aren't that "traumatized" by themes or scenes that might impact heavily on someone who is not used to horror; extreme horror stuff like torture horror (like Saw or Hostel), cannibal or female revenge movies. Those kinds of movies should be later on your list of movies to watch, because if you don't understand the tropes and cliches of the horror genre in its early days, you will lack the context in understanding the subtleties of the themes and the choice of metaphor or analogy in modern horror films. Also, a lot of older movies and subgenres of horror have always gone for a more raw and gory approach to horror, something that modern horror tends to ignore or find distasteful with its "modern sensibilities". :/ Watching horror is a LOT of fun, but it is an acquired taste. Some people like the story being told, others are more visually orientated and like the scenes and framing of the film. Some people also prefer some subgenres in horror more than others, but you do also get all-rounders that simply love EVERYTHING horror-related. That is why when you go into any horror community, people have topics and subjects on pretty much everything about horror movies - from favorite directors, to favorite sound tracks, to genres and subgenres, to favorite actors and actresses (and performances!). And because people love to share their favorite films and recent watches, you are always being informed of new horror movies being released or movies you haven't seen before. Some horror communities on Facebook even have live watch parties of old classics or obscure horror films. :/
The people who disliked this video are not the brightest he literally is the best move reviewer there is he is a likable guy and explains very thing perfectly so perfectly that I don’t even have to watch the movie before.
hey i keep seeing comments complaining that foundflix explains the entire movie, but for people like me (with extreme anxiety and paranoia problems that makes watching horror movies impossible to watch) it really helps! i love horror movies and watching these videos help me keep up on trends, understand pop culture references, and relate to my friends without getting panic attacks or extreme paranoia. it also gives me courage to watch the entire movie with some friends after i know every event and why it happens!
I was thinking "we're getting endings explained for horror movies this month" but tbh most of the endings explained on this channel are for horror movies lol
i've been consuming your channel like crazy and i'm so glad i did hahaha. This movie is SO intriguing to me it feels so fresh and genuine like. They are showing me horror concepts without trying hard to fall into a criteria and just having fun making a movie about horror. It has tropes i've seen before and not quite extremely original monsters but damn do they seem fresh when presented in a more casual way? I dont know how to explain it but something about this movie to me feels like what was missing

@@everadept Under the Shadow is a good slow-burner movie! It relies on atmosphere and the general mood during post-revolutionary Tehran from the '80s, as well as a very well-made, creepy portrayal of djinn. ^^ I saw it after watching Tigers and Aterrados, so I was all buttered up with fears and ravaged emotions from the previous movies and this movie helped cinch in me sleeping with the lights on as a grown adult.
I watched this when I had a Shudder subscription and it was my first time reading subtitles in a horror movie. But now I find foreign horror seems to be so much scarier than english horror!
Did they actually shoot the monsters at all? I mean, they brought a gun they should’ve used it for its intended purpose at some point or at least told the dude with the gun it was useless so he didn’t look stupid.

It's like nails on a chalkboard when I hear it - from anyone. Common error. Please, just be aware. 6 stars, 12/10 would recommend.
Would the gun have worked on trans dimensional beings? How much control does the organisms have over its infected meat jacket? I mean, it seems as if the micro organisms "hijack" an organic host's body in one scene, but then you have it literally coming out of the wall in another scene - so do they come through a trans dimensional tear from somewhere as fully mobile independent "beings", or are they more like spore that mixed with a local water source in the neighborhood, and the creatures we have seen were people it had already infected and taken over completely? if they are a spore like entity, did the trans dimensional tear occur in the water supply system for the neighborhood? The movie isn't really clear on that point - it just seems to start this story further down in the early infection phase, in very much the same way like the later REC movies do. The movie seems contradictory in not really pinning down the abilities of the "evil creature", or simply making its abilities fluid and whatever the script needs it to be at any given moment? :/
@@sigmacademy actually, there are more then one crrature, the main ome is the one we see the most, but i am pretty sure that the child was controlled by a completely dofferent one. They are also demons, they are incorporeal, so the gun wouldn't have worled at all unless the projectiles were made in some comcoluted ways in a church or something (wich would've ruined the mood of the movie). Also, the main demon is able of telekinesys, dimensional plane shifting, can actually phisically interact things if it is strong enough, it can crawl in very tight areas (in a scene, the thing is inside of kitchen shelves, when it drinks the blood of one of the scientists), it also has some sort of control over the soul that it kills, since we see the scientists bodies were never found, but they can be seen by some and have been turned in some sort of minor demonic entities by the end of the movie.

The scene with Albreck's neck bent backwards briefly sent my soul to heaven.

Thanks.

You know, I really like the concept of paranormal investigators who know what they're doing and treat blatantly supernatural occurrences as business as usual. "Ah, the dead boy came back as a zombie. Don't worry, I've seen this before."

Good thing you're channel exists. I'm too much of a baby to watch any horror films
Watching horror is a LOT of fun, but it is an acquired taste. :/
@@sigmacademy I have never been able to get past the Hammer movies lol.

Under the Shadow is a good slow-burner movie! It relies on atmosphere and the general mood during post-revolutionary Tehran from the '80s, as well as a very well-made, creepy portrayal of djinn. ^^
I saw it after watching Tigers and Aterrados, so I was all buttered up with fears and ravaged emotions from the previous movies and this movie helped cinch in me sleeping with the lights on as a grown adult.
The fact the pale one grabbed the gun would mean it's probably work
You should watch the movie to find out, this movie is actually scary
Dude, I love this guy. Makes my fucking day. I watch it to chill out while cooking dinner. But PLEASE!!! MORTIFIED MEANS HUMILIATED! HORRIFIED MEANS SCARED AND TERRIFIED!

I shouldn’t watch this, it’s right before bedtime

@@Jaxie2007 sounds absolutely awful😅
16:25 See, that’s how you do a scare. Sure, movies with jump scares can still be scary, like Alien, Halloween, etc. Having something pop out at you with a loud noise in and of itself isn’t scary, whether it’s a “cat scare” or not. But everything about this scene...no wonder he said this part spooks him every time, I mean, look at that thing!
You should do a ending explained on the Presidential Debate, still makes me shudder
ending explained: the United States of America
😂😂
I’ll explain, what we have is a mega rich entertainer yelling and arguing with a war-criminal/predator with a dose of dementia. We call that a debate while we secretly divide the country by every category possible.
@@mrgamingking18 spot on
@@mrgamingking18 you explained it perfectly.
This movie was a fantastic watch. I saw the first 5 min of your video and went and watched the movie. Best scare I've had in years, you are great for finding hidden gems.
