    If you pollinate American Beauty with other mix pollens, the fruit won't be American Beauty, right?

      The fruit will still be American, but the seeds that you plant will be a hybrid of American and whatever pollen source you use.

    When you cross pollinate two self fertile, can it give you different fruits when graft the seedling? I wanna cross pollinate American beauty with natural mystic

      Yes, you cross two self fertile varieties to set fruit and grow the seeds from then to create a new hybrid. You can then graft the seedlings to a rootstock to make them grow faster.

    I think my “American beauty “ is a real one cause I hand pollinate them but they still die off. How can I tell if my planet is an “American beauty “? So I need a different variety and use it’s pollen ?

      What does your plant look like? Try cross pollinating it with another variety pollen source to get fruit. Then you'll know if its an American Beauty fruit or not. Lots of people are buying, selling, growing unknown varieties, and calling it American Beauty. Get it from a grower who's gotten fruit before and knows what they have. When you order online or from someone that hasn't had fruit in their plant. You end up in this situation. Also most the nurseries in my area have mislabeled dragon fruit plants. So I don't recommend buying from there either.

      @@harmonysdragons2610 it looks like the one you have, even the flowers look the same. Out of 5 flowers one looks like it might turn into a fruit the others are turning yellow. Maybe my hand pollinating technique isn’t that good 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. Is there any other reason why a flower would die even if fertilized?

      @eternaldienasty7270 If it's not setting fruit with its own pollen, then it's not self fertile. Try a different pollen source. Some varieties can look similar but are not the same genetics. I don't know what yours looks like, so I can't say for sure what it may be. Join my Facebook group Harmony's Dragons and post pictures of your American Beauty plant.

      What the update on your American Beauty?

      @@harmonysdragons2610 hello. It flowered a few weeks ago out of 5 that I hand pollinated looks like 2 are going to make a fruit cause it’s been 2 weeks and the flower died off but the green base is still growing. I guess I wasn’t pollinating it correctly or it’s something to do with the plant. I put an umbrella over it during the really hot days here in Florida and maybe that did the trick

    Why do people say American Beauty is not a self pollinator nor self fertil . That it needs different varieties to pollinate

    • @harmonysdragons2610
      @harmonysdragons2610  Рік тому +1

      It's because they bought mislabeled varieties from nursery and still call it American Beauty. The real one is self fertile and self pollinating but not 100% self pollinating. You get a higher percentage by pollinating by hand. I've been to multiple nurseries that have dragon fruits and a lot is mislabeled from where they get them from. Then you have people resale these unknown as American Beauty on Facebook market.

      @@harmonysdragons2610 thank you ur reply . I'm new at this DF cutting & plants. If the stigma is short is the plant both self fertile & pollinate ?

    • @harmonysdragons2610
      @harmonysdragons2610  Рік тому

      @@arianduran1725 it has tp be a self fertile variety to start with. A shorter stigma gives it a higher chance of pollinating itself. There are self fertile varieties that have long stigmas that require assistance in pollinating either by hand or insects
