I think Andromeda is one of those things were you could write a 12 volume novel series on just where things went wrong and how it ended up in that state that it did. I'm so fascinated by it being bad, I forget to be angry at it for being bad. Hell, that's not even the first time its happened with this series. Bioware had to issue an apology for Mass Effect Deception. I'm not joking.
Here's a better plot! We could play as the offspring of Shepard and whoever he romanced in the previous games. Like an Asari, a Quarian, a Turian, a human, whoever you want to be, working on completing your father/mother's legacy by going on the arc, trying to find a new home in case another threat like the one their parents faced appears. They've got quite the legacy to do so, and it could add some closure to the previous series.

According to your math, reaching the Andromeda galaxy in 600 years means they were traveling at 4,033.5 times the speed of light. There's FTL travel and then there's this shit.

And divided it by the speed they would need to travel, in years. 750, 231, 671 miles per second (60×60×24×365). It would take 621.172 years. And I sure as shit don't see the arks lightspeed jumping. That is bullshit indeed.
surprised you didn't sin the obvious: if this game takes place BEFORE Mass Effect 3, how in the hell did none of the Arks nor the Nexus get into contact with the Reapers? You know, the immortal race of machines that exterminate all life every 50000 years and were already awake at the end of Mass Effect 2 and on their way to the Milky Way.
I always took it as the arks left during the time when Shepard was dead at the beginning of Mass Effect 2. Cause in an optional side quest there's some ex Cerberus scientists that talked about the Lazarus Project saying it was a foolish decision to bring back someone from the dead. As if unaware that it actually worked.
As far as I remember they left around the event of Mass Effect 2 so, starting from a mass relay far from the galactic center they were probably in the intergalactic space (now abridged in IGS) by the time the reapers had a good foothold in the milky way (not far in the IGS but not in the milky way anymore) and of course they did not get into contact with the reapers, have you any idea of how LARGE is the interface Milky Way and IGS? have you any proof that the reapers were even in a region of IGS between the milky way and Andromeda? (actually they logically were on a region nowhere near a straight line between the milky way and another galaxy to avoid appearing accidentally in the scope of some lucky and very well equiped astronomers). For all we know the initiative and the reapers may have followed close paths but a couple of light year away from one another (out of reach of each others sensors) or the reapers can have attained the milky way on the fucking opposite side of the galaxy from were the initiative left (good luck spotting them from freaking thousands of light year of distance).

Umm... Space is really really big? It would have to be the worst luck possible for their trajectory to actually take them into the path of the Reapers. Harbinger broadcasting at FTL speeds is much different to recieving, especially since the Galaxy is full of reaper tech which can form a pretty handy network for fact comms. The Reapers can still only pick up visual or thermal scans at the speed of light and given the Arks are travelling at FTL, by the time the data is recieved, the arks are already years gone. Which alsoallows me to bring into question one of the sins which questions how fast the Arks were travelling, about 11 light years per day. (2.5 million light years divided by 600 years then divided by 365 days), which is actually pretty consistent with Mass Effect lore. Ships can travel around those speeds in game without the Mass Relays

FInally!!!!! I've been waiting for this, and i wasnt disappointed. Two things always bothered me: 1. Alec Ryder was an extremely important character in this game, and not only did they kill him off in the FIRST MISSION, but they not only LEAVE his body on habitat 7 and never go back for him, but they dont even have a funeral!!!! Besides, Sara Ryder (the one i played with) doesnt even seem the slightest bit effected by his death. Doesnt even speak of him again during the rest of the game, neither does anyone else for that matter 2. The figure head that spearheaded this entire Andromeda project was promoted to be an extremely important character, however they kill her off in the book leading up to the game. THEN, in the game, they reveal that she may have been murdered but they never explore that plot thread any further than that minuscule side mission
I remember producers talking about the family saying that his/her father and twin will be doing something, instead father dead and twin in capsule... I liked the game I just had to forget original series, the whole codex, and animations... the plot holes that are pointed out in this video are funny, but if I had to dislike anything with plot holes I would not be able to watch, play or read any story. What made me angry is the open ending in this.

Why were they allowed an expedition of their own to the Andromeda galaxy? Why did the Council share this new super-FTL drive with them? According to Mass Effect 3, the Krogan had been demilitarized as punishment for rebelling against the galaxy (that is, they aren't allowed to have starships). Yeah, nice f*n job, Mac Walters!
I thought it would have been cool to start andromeda between 2 and 3. You get to choose an alien species. Hang out on thessia or Palaven or whatever, then 3 hours in you go to andromeda and fight the kett and meet the squid people. Have a specific species centered mission. Like the turian ark is Lost in Deep space or uder siege from the kett or something.

You know what, I just thought of something. Instead of there being one Pathfinder per Ark, why not a team of them? Have Cora & the 3 Ryders (and maybe Liam as well) all be Pathfinders, with Alec being the lead. Then have Scott and Sarah trade brother-sister dialogue with Alec being the guy who hands out missions, while occassionally telling his kids to stop bickering. Oh right, that would've required a competent writting team. Never mind.
That's because the Andromeda Initiative was founded in 2176 and launched in 2185. Presumably they reached out to Liara years before the launch. Plus she clearly states in one of the recordings that it was in 2182, a year before the attack on Eden Prime in 2183, and a year before she met Commander Shepard.
Jeff Solis the fans are also apart of the reason. Many fans will most likely lose it because they don't have the patience to wait for the game to be completed or even playable.
Also a issue i have is. They are always saying how important a Pathfinder is. Yet i always felt way more important and needed as a Specter in the previous ME games.

Great video. I enjoyed ME 1 and 2, but with ME 3 I started rolling my eyes at some of the dialogue and plot points. Still, with Andromeda, I was going to try to form my own opinion after all of the reviews. I tried Andromeda on one of those free weekends awhile back and saw for myself the bad the plot and poor writing. When the game tried to be serious, it came across as contrived (cue eye roll) and when it tried to be funny, the timing was completely off. The writing really was atrocious.
I think the heat sinks could've been a good addition to the ME1 guns: have the guns be able to cool down on their own but you can plug in a heat sink so you don't have to deal with the cool-down time.
Sasquatch Hohman I mean, it kinda worked for Battlefield 4, but then again Battlefield 4 wasn't ABANDONED a few months after launch. That's probably the most disappointing thing to come out of this mess. I honestly would've beat the game if they stuck to their guns and put some effort into patches and publishing some awesome content, like a Quarian Ark expansion. Instead, they flat-out abandoned their game, and I decided to sell my copy because I had better games to play.

For all we know the initiative and the reapers may have followed close paths but a couple of light year away from one another (out of reach of each others sensors) or the reapers can have attained the milky way on the fucking opposite side of the galaxy from were the initiative left (good luck spotting them from freaking thousands of light year of distance).

If they really have this kind of capacity they may have left the initiative alone for a simple question of ressources (they have more pressing concern than losing time running after the Initiative who is probably not at all on their path, all the more given that the reapers can still come back to kick their sorry asses if the initiative turned back toward the milky way at any moment (and as long as they are going to andromeda they are a small concern to reapers who are mainly programmed to monitor the milky way))
Umm... Space is really really big? It would have to be the worst luck possible for their trajectory to actually take them into the path of the Reapers.
Harbinger broadcasting at FTL speeds is much different to recieving, especially since the Galaxy is full of reaper tech which can form a pretty handy network for fact comms. The Reapers can still only pick up visual or thermal scans at the speed of light and given the Arks are travelling at FTL, by the time the data is recieved, the arks are already years gone.
Which alsoallows me to bring into question one of the sins which questions how fast the Arks were travelling, about 11 light years per day. (2.5 million light years divided by 600 years then divided by 365 days), which is actually pretty consistent with Mass Effect lore. Ships can travel around those speeds in game without the Mass Relays

1. DOOM: Yes it somehow held up when compared to the original, but sinful? hell yeah!

Two things always bothered me:
1. Alec Ryder was an extremely important character in this game, and not only did they kill him off in the FIRST MISSION, but they not only LEAVE his body on habitat 7 and never go back for him, but they dont even have a funeral!!!! Besides, Sara Ryder (the one i played with) doesnt even seem the slightest bit effected by his death. Doesnt even speak of him again during the rest of the game, neither does anyone else for that matter
2. The figure head that spearheaded this entire Andromeda project was promoted to be an extremely important character, however they kill her off in the book leading up to the game. THEN, in the game, they reveal that she may have been murdered but they never explore that plot thread any further than that minuscule side mission
I remember producers talking about the family saying that his/her father and twin will be doing something, instead father dead and twin in capsule... I liked the game I just had to forget original series, the whole codex, and animations... the plot holes that are pointed out in this video are funny, but if I had to dislike anything with plot holes I would not be able to watch, play or read any story. What made me angry is the open ending in this.

Awesome list, GCN. So many sins and still a long way to go. Can't wait for Part 2! One of the biggest questions I have about MEA is the Krogan ark. Why were they allowed an expedition of their own to the Andromeda galaxy? Why did the Council share this new super-FTL drive with them? According to Mass Effect 3, the Krogan had been demilitarized as punishment for rebelling against the galaxy (that is, they aren't allowed to have starships). Yeah, nice f*n job, Mac Walters!

I thought it would have been cool to start andromeda between 2 and 3. You get to choose an alien species. Hang out on thessia or Palaven or whatever, then 3 hours in you go to andromeda and fight the kett and meet the squid people. Have a specific species centered mission. Like the turian ark is Lost in Deep space or uder siege from the kett or something.

You know what, I just thought of something. Instead of there being one Pathfinder per Ark, why not a team of them? Have Cora & the 3 Ryders (and maybe Liam as well) all be Pathfinders, with Alec being the lead. Then have Scott and Sarah trade brother-sister dialogue with Alec being the guy who hands out missions, while occassionally telling his kids to stop bickering.

That's because the Andromeda Initiative was founded in 2176 and launched in 2185. Presumably they reached out to Liara years before the launch. Plus she clearly states in one of the recordings that it was in 2182, a year before the attack on Eden Prime in 2183, and a year before she met Commander Shepard.

Great video. I enjoyed ME 1 and 2, but with ME 3 I started rolling my eyes at some of the dialogue and plot points. Still, with Andromeda, I was going to try to form my own opinion after all of the reviews. I tried Andromeda on one of those free weekends awhile back and saw for myself the bad the plot and poor writing. When the game tried to be serious, it came across as contrived (cue eye roll) and when it tried to be funny, the timing was completely off. The writing really was atrocious.

I think the heat sinks could've been a good addition to the ME1 guns: have the guns be able to cool down on their own but you can plug in a heat sink so you don't have to deal with the cool-down time.

Sasquatch Hohman I mean, it kinda worked for Battlefield 4, but then again Battlefield 4 wasn't ABANDONED a few months after launch. That's probably the most disappointing thing to come out of this mess. I honestly would've beat the game if they stuck to their guns and put some effort into patches and publishing some awesome content, like a Quarian Ark expansion. Instead, they flat-out abandoned their game, and I decided to sell my copy because I had better games to play.
