HELLO FRIENDS!! hope you guys enjoy our stream attempt from LA!! really quick - later on in the stream, tyler put the potato/garlic knife back into the knife block because he was worried people in the chat would be upset about loose knives on the table -- we 100% cleaned them and the block, and everything else in the airbnb that we used (and we always planned to)! it was just a quick mistake, so sorry about that! You don’t have to answer your chat if they ask why a knife is on the table during a kitchen stream lol. Use your best judgment instead of worrying about what chat will think. You guys got this. ❤️

An jour + long stream looking into my own eyes, I’d be like a hotdog in a trench coat lol. Their weirdness is blossoming in all the best ways, maybe it’s the Cali sun. ☀️❤️

Nice to see that it looks like they're feeling a bit better this week! I missed Tyler's Tangents (which at this point should be a segment with it's own graphic) and Safiya rating things based in arousal lol. Also - garlic plate. There are little ceramic plates with serrated bottoms that you can use to shred garlic. I've never used one myself, but I saw someone use it, and it seemed effective. They also last super long because they're ceramic, are easy to clean, and easy to use. No metal to sharpen so blades won't eventually dull and make the product useless, and no plastic (which great for the environment). Again I haven't used one but conceptually and from what I hear they seem great.
They're great in theory (garlic plate things) but it is difficult to get that last bit of garlic ground down (like the last bit of cheese into a cheese grater) and you do get very garlicky hands, but they do work, and are easy to clean.
They work but they're kinda annoying to use in my opinion, hard to get the last bit out. I have a plastic cutter thing that looks like a garlic and on the inside there's little prongs, you just put a whole clove in there and twist and it's shredded by the prongs. Pretty neat. Just rinse it in water afterwards and it's clean.

I have the small version of the watermelon slicer that’s for apples and love it. The best part is that it cores the apple in addition to slicing it. Kinda funny that they kept the round core shape for the watermelons, though!
Me, as a Greek, being impressed with your knowledge in Greek mythology❤ (p.s. appreciate Safiya mentioning Wednesday in the beginning of every stream- It's always Wednesday here in Greece when you guys stream)
My parents just found our old one when gutting their kitchen! It brought back some fun (and very loud) memories of desperately trying to turn the handle without breaking it
Best live stream yet! I watch every week and this week without the monitor, you guys seemed so much more relaxed and got to just enjoy each other and what you were doing, love it so much!
I have an idea for a vintage kitchen gadget. There are these tools where you feed milk and butter through it, and it turns to cream. I had to order one from England. Haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll have to give it a try soon.
That slicer gadget at the end has been around for at least 70 years. I have one that was my mom's from the 50's. This exact fact acknowledge by Saf at 1:12. Excellent.
My mother-in-law has the slicer thing and we use it to grate cheese in like 10 seconds! It's pretty amazing! Her's is old school metal and suctions onto the bench
I can tell you why any egg spinning wouldn't work. I forget the name of it but the white bit on the yolk keeps it centered in the egg white, so spinning it doesn't really do anything. I do remember seeing a as seen on tv product that was a base with a vibrating needle that you put the egg on to scramble it (and I'm sure it's as dangerous as it sounds) but that would work since you pierce the yolk and the vibration scrabbles it.
That potato slicer is a larger boxy version of vegetable slicers/meat mincers our parents and grandparents used. You can still buy them, though they're often made of plastic nowadays, whereas the better ones are made of metal. The switch at the bottom was to suction it to the bench and the handle was removable and should have clicked into place, so you can change the slicer attachment inside. Mine has a button you have to slide down and hold to remove the handle.
I love those 2 so much! I discovered GMM late so I have watched them all out of order. (I actually watched Mythical Kitchen first and had zero clue who Rhett and Link were past occasionally hearing their names thrown around!) But first episode I saw Stevie instead of just hearing her blew my mind! She's adorable.
@@ATrace-pn6wx I'm in a similar boat. I used to watch gmm much before Stevie was actively involved in episodes. Just got back into the show and have been binge watching. I love how her and Carly add to the conversation in their own ways while also keeping things on track. 🥰
A couple of years ago Saf and Ty guest-hosted GMM (Rhett and Link were shooting Buddy System and invited couple of pairs of hosts as an extended Good Mythical Summer vacation). It was before they met Carly, I believe, BUT Stevie was there! So partial dream come true for you? Lol (Also Saf & Ty absolutely smashed that gig, btw. Many Beasts discovered them that way. It was such a treat to see them just vibing uncut then - I am once again reminded of how much I love these live streams now 🥰) ETA: maybe you're aware, since that wasn't exactly the point of your comment, just saying in case it's helpful lol
The old version of the potato slicer is called a Salad Master, and I think they still sell them, but it's like with Lipsense where you have to find a licensed dealer.
We have one of these utensils (They're so old and actually helping I'm not calling that a gadget, that's a full-on utensil) where I live, it's at least 30 years old and it's perfect. We mostly use it to make sliced potatoes for gratin, shredded cheese for fondue and shredded carrots for salad. Ours is almost 100% metal, though, don't know if the model they have in the stream is as durable...
I think Hestia is the best fit because the hearth is supposed to represent the home. So Hestia is more the Goddess of the home and cooking is a homey activity. Also Hephaestus is the God of blacksmithing he has no food associations that I'm aware of. Fun fact: he makes Zeus's lightning bolts. Also I love how much more relaxed and free this stream is because Ty and Saf are not worried about tangling their mic cords. ❤
I know it's not your normal studio, but this looks SO GOOD compared to your usual setup. I'm visually impaired, and the shadows and lack of bright light in your normal studio setting makes it so hard to see everything happening.
So excited they read my comment on stream! I have a big family, so we would always get the gigantic watermelons during summer. I think the watermelon slicing tool would be more difficult than it's worth, or at the very least you would want to cut the watermelon in half and use the slicing tool twice for one of the large watermelons. Even then, I'm not sure the tool would fit over some of the large watermelons we get.
I’ve had 4 of those watermelon cutters and every single one has “disintegrated”!! 😡 Lol nah, I’m kidding about them disintegrating. But its true that I’m on my 5th one now because everytime I use it somewhere (usually a family event) my mom, sister in law or one of my aunts or cousins steals it because they love it so much 🤣🤣🤣 You CAN use the regular watermelons, you just have to make sure circumference of the melon is smaller than the circumference of the slicer. I’ve cut many a watermelon with it! I also use it on cantaloupe and honeydew.
I HATED using fresh garlic until I learned the trick to peel it of smacking the cloves with the side of a chefs knife. Works great, they pop right out!
When Tyler was naming the originals and called her Amy, I started shouting at my iPad screen, ‘No! Her name was Trini!’. She was one of my favourites too. I loved all of them, but Zack and Trini were up there, along with Jason. I was bummed when they all left.
Loved how you could just turn around and use the sink or grab something else in this space. Tyler using the knife and putting it right back in the block 🥴🥴😵💫😵💫
This stream has made my night. I have been feeling sick all day, but this is making me laugh and feel so much better ♥ I love you guys ♥ thanks for this ♥
Safiya and Tyler for the egg device you have the right ide to poke a hole in the top but the thing you should also do is get a paper clip to break the yoke. The yoke is slightly protected in a membrane . so you need to break the yoke and give it a slight stir before using the device. You only need to poke 2 holes if you want to blow out and have a hollow egg for display.
As somebody owning an equivalent to this potato slicer... The handle is loose so you can change cylinders. The handle *screws in* actually, that's why it was so rickety, you had to fasten it. The one I own is solid metal though, except the handle and pusher, so there may be a little difference, but it's a great tool if you don't have a slicer attachment for your food processor and want to slice/shred vegetables and cheeses.
That last, potato, one; we used to have a much smaller, handheld device that was basically the exact same concept, but we would use it to grate cheese. So the attachment we'd use had a grater, not a slicer like this, but I think it came with different attachments, so possibly there was a slicer as well. It was very useful tbh, very safe for kids to use as well.
I think I'd consider Prometheus to be a god of using fire to cook. He gave fire to humans originally, and he was also the one who tricked Zeus into accepting the Bad parts of the animal as offerings while humans get to eat the Good parts. So he is fire + food! Although if we're just talking specifically about potatoes, I think you're right that it would be Demeter as the goddess of agriculture and harvest!
Actually Tyler would be correct with saying it’s Hestia. Or rather Hestia is the closest thing greek mythology would have to a goddess of the kitchen because shes also goddess of domestic arts (which includes cooking). Dionysus, Demeter, and Artemis can be like somewhat considered though since as god/goddesses of wine, grapes, grain, and the hunt they all provide some sort of food.
@Nyx Idk, I wouldn't exactly call her the goddess of domestic arts, at least no moreso than some other goddesses like Hera. While she does have importance in that aspect, her main emphasis is on being the goddess of the hearth, symbolizing hospitality and taking care of the household. Her basis is more on the house as a whole rather than individual domestic arts or tasks. Albeit the hearth was used for food prep so I can see the argument for Hestia being the correct goddess for this case from that angle.
@@stellasdoesstuff I would say she is a little more the goddess of at the very least domesticity as “the virgin goddess of the hearth, the right ordering of domesticity, the family, the home, and the state.” Also, “As the goddess of the family hearth she also presided over the cooking of bread and the preparation of the family meal.” It’s true her main thing is the hearth and taking care of the household/family but that was the idea behind saying that since she’s associated with that, by association she’s the closest there would be to a goddess of cooking as no one else fits the bill (in Greek mythology). As said in my original comment.
Tyler hates mincing garlic - in Australia you can readily get 500g/1lb jars of pre-minced garlic, roasted or unroasted, does the US not have this miracle ingredient?
A $10 mini food processor found in any Walmart works easier to chop onion and garlic. Throw it in, twist the lid a few seconds...done. Easy to dump it out and clean it. The Egg Scrambler, or the Salmonella Sharing Machine.
The knob on the side of the potato slicer is to suction it to the counter. The black rubber around the bottom vacuum seals it down to the counter so it doesn't wiggle while you are using the machine.
If you want more egg content with added possible explosions? Try emptying raw eggs to decorate the shells for Easter. Poke 2 holes in the shell, one in the top & one in the bottom of the egg (lengthwise) and then use compressed air to blow the raw egg out, leaving you with an empty egg shell you can rinse & decorate & won't go bad. Except if you let the air pressure build up inside the egg too much, it'll explode. In your hand. Very exciting! Ask me how I spent the night before Easter Sunday last year! 🤦🤣🤣🤣 (I would tell you how to bleed off the pressure but turns out I'm not the person to ask that question!)
Hahaha we did this when little but I think we just drained the egg or maybe blew on one of the holes? No exciting explosions but the excitement of maybe getting salmonella!

You CAN use the regular watermelons, you just have to make sure circumference of the melon is smaller than the circumference of the slicer. I’ve cut many a watermelon with it! I also use it on cantaloupe and honeydew.
I HATED using fresh garlic until I learned the trick to peel it of smacking the cloves with the side of a chefs knife. Works great, they pop right out!
GMM+Saf&Ty=match made in heaven 😍
Ty thinks one small watermelon will ”last for days”, that’s cute because when I buy a watermelon I eat all of it in less than an hour 😂🍉
Ahhh I just missed it!!! I was making my D&D character!! XD
Trini was my favorite Ranger, I was so sad she passed away in real life. I was almost a teen when it came out.
Thank you guys for always having subtitles, it is so amazing!
Chris sounds like a person i would definitely hang out with, he just sounds so fun lol
Flat knife blade smashing garlic to get the peel off is so satisfying
My face when Tyler puts the knife back in the knife block after using is 😬😬😬
This stream has made my night. I have been feeling sick all day, but this is making me laugh and feel so much better ♥ I love you guys ♥ thanks for this ♥
40:27 SKY DANCERS! You are like the only other people I've heard talk about them
When I worked there, anytime overtime was needed there was a huge picture of Jeff and it said "uncle Jeff wants your overtime"
Chris is a total legend. So smooth....
100% for the vintage kitchen gadgets, yes please. I have a few here at home that i just don't understand XD
16:58 it’s like military boot camp Jeff lined them up and shaves their heads 😂😂😂
Nooooooooooo. I could have hand whipped and served ten friends omelets in the amount of time you messed with that stupid fail. Lol
That makes sense!
The potato gadget reminds me of a manual salad shooter. It was huge in the mid 90s. My parents still have theirs, and it works really well.
"wow I'm kinda aroused" cried laughing, literally
I was listening to this in the background and heard "it's too big, you're gonna have to take one out" at 55.18 and that got my attention 😂
The egg exploding was the best part of the stream by far lol
Tyler hates mincing garlic - in Australia you can readily get 500g/1lb jars of pre-minced garlic, roasted or unroasted, does the US not have this miracle ingredient?
We do lol That’s what I’ve been buying for the past 3 years. Nearly every store has pre-minced garlic in jars.
This stream in particular has been funnier than usual omg LOL
This makes me want more cooking streams
When the camera first came on, I thought the light was a giant wine glass lol
You guys are great, never change. Love from Vancouver Canada.
Palm heel striking your garlic actually is a good garlic method if you don't mind the smell. It peels and obliterates all in one schmash.
Audio cut at the end, but glad I get to catch the first hour that I missed live.
A $10 mini food processor found in any Walmart works easier to chop onion and garlic. Throw it in, twist the lid a few seconds...done. Easy to dump it out and clean it. The Egg Scrambler, or the Salmonella Sharing Machine.
Absolutely here for the Tyler Tangent on who the Greek god of the kitchen is
THAT GARLIC ROLLER WALL-E THING IS SO COOL. ❤️
YES to meat alternative taste test!!!
Safiya... sprinkle a bit of sugar on a cucumber!!!! It’s so delicious lol, tastes very similar to watermelon
