Here is pretty obvious Hightower still doesn't understand how Jane works and how close he is with Lisbon. Jane and Lisbon together are dinamite. But she is new in the Team and she have to realize (as she did later) that both..Jane and Lisbon are always at her side. Jane's comment "It's not her fault" is lovely and it shows how much he cares for Lisbon. He cares so much for Lisbon and not in himself. We saw episodes when Jane ( until season 6) didn't care a thing about his own life.
Its obvious you didnt understand a DAMN THING about this scene. The BOSS just gave lisbon a 5 day paid vacation under the guise of punishing her. As soon as she said to jane 'she needs a holiday' he understood she was just being kind not mean.
Jane is a classic sociopath. He spent most of his life as a fake psychic screwing the gullible out of money, and he regards working with the police as a game to be enjoyed to demonstrate his superiority while he pursues Red John. Sociopaths are capable of feeling affection for those they're close to, but they have impaired empathy and no internalized sense of right and wrong.
