I really love this channel for the depth of these videos. I don't like not knowing what all the personality chips sound like, and I don't want to buy them all to find out, so I love having this to hear them so I can decide what I want by buddy to sound like
i went on the 12th of june with my reservation, paid to make an r2 unit, and then found out while making it, that they ran out of white, blue and black leg panels. all they had were red ones, so i got a refund, took 8 days to get my money back on my card. I just went back today, and they were completely out of personality chips.... lots of kinks to work out... I finally got into the cantina, so i spent my money on two mugs instead. droid will have to wait until they get theyre crap together. luckily, i live ten miles away and have a 365 day a year pass, so i will have plenty of opportunities to get my droid and saber and backpack, etc. thanks for the review, the most helpful things were knowing about them NOT talking to each other, and hearing the personality chips!! Thanks again! i subscribed!
So glad someone finally tested out all the personality chip! Thanks! I think for me, the droid will be worth it, though it is pricey. It really is a shame they don't interact with each other. That was actually something I thought would be really fun since my family will be getting a few of these I am sure.
i know this video is 4 years old, but it got me to subscribe immediately. i’m in the process of building a droid depot r2 unit without ever having been to galaxy’s edge, so i’m having to order different parts and pieces and i was SO unsure about the personality chips. i couldn’t find a good video that showed them off as well as you did, so THANK YOU! you’re the best
That's true. That's due to how the droids are designed. BB is litterely rolling on its own body. You can't attach anything to BB's body without crippling its movement. At best a BB unit could have an accessory on its head. The R units roll along the wheels built into their legs. So attaching accessories to it wouldn't be an issue.
Also bb droids in the movies had one or two accessories if I’m remembering correctly so at least it isn’t like r2 units which have been shown to be Swiss army knifes
Thank you so much for buying all of the accessories and chips. I have been struggling to decide which droid I will build when I go to galaxy’s edge, but after watching your video I have a clear decision. I also now know which accessories and chip will fit my style. Much appreciated!
Ok, so I just subbed I've been watching all your Galaxies Edge vids. Loving it! I Just built a lifesize R2 (well he's almost done anyway) and yes I'd still buy a droid. He'd be alot easier to chase my cat with than the full size.. lol I live in Canada so a trip there is a huge investment for me but I really want to get there. Oh and I'm a 42 year old man and I love that you have fun with what you do. There's no shame in happiness.
How do you learn to build a full droid? And do you know what the best R2-D2 to buy is? Most interactive and cool one? I see there are more expensive ones.
I would say that the Droid by itself is worth it, I mean, Star Wars toys are expensive, I'm sure they this Droid would've costed similar to this if it was a toystore toy, like a Hasbro a Toys'R'Us. It's nice plastic, Bluetooth, and most importantly, customizable, so they are quality toys. The other accessories for me are not worth it, unless you rreeeeallly want to go for extreme customization. The only accessory I think might be worth it might be the drink tray, that way you could display the Droid in a bar /mancave arrangement, or a bachelor's pad kinda deal.
I just got back from Galaxys edge had a great time went on smugglers run. Finally built my R unit red body, black outer legs and blue clear head and blue front leg. Got tea and had a Rondo wrap drank green milk with the souvenir cup. So happy had tons of fun. Might buy the boosters. Off ebay or somewhere if they are cheap enough. Can't wait to go back. my trip was two years in the making. Got a 50th pin and sweater. Thanks for the great videos.
Okay good sir the moment you decided to put the second blaster on instead of cutting it short was the moment you got my sub! Thanks for the awesome video!
Thanks you for letting us hear what all the personality chips sounded like! I was wondering about them and nobody has shown all of them in comparison. Now I know which one I like when I go and build my droid :)
As an AP it’s worth it. Since I can slowly collect accessories. I’m actually thinking a mostly white so I can interchange the accessories colors. For a play experience I’d go for the blasters and or jets. But tools and drink tray seem pointless. Since they aren’t functional. I know niether are the blasters or jets. But at least you can pretend they are. Have 2 do a play shootout (wonder what first order at park would do if my droid shot his blaster at them). Vs just walk around with a drink tray that can’t be properly held so can’t bring drinks.
I plan on making an R unit when I go to Galaxy’s Edge in the fall and you definitely saved me a little bit of time and money by playing all the sounds. I knew I wanted a First Order droid but not which personality chip specifically. Thanks to you I know I definitely want the black one.
My son and I built droids a couple of days ago…he went with a Bb unit and I went with an r series…we went home and they interact with each other…when we got home and forgot to turn them off, they would occasionally talk to each other
I heard in another review they interact if they both have 1 of the same personality chips, but like you said if they dont mention it on the employees sheet they most likely dont at all :/ great vid, cant wait for the BB review
The way the night footage was shot of those other people's droids, the BB looks nervous, and the R4 unit was giving some serious side eye with the head roll towards the camera lol
You know, There are pros and cons to everything you get at Galaxy's edge. But when I return to Disneyland, thanks to your video Dan-o I know I will be cautious! Thank You, Man!
Maaan, I missed the premiere because I was at work. Was looking forward to this the most, after the custom lightsabers. I also really like the orange personality chip, might go for that for my R6. Unless I go for a Smuggler Droid and constantly have to argue with him about being such a maverick. For me, I think the appeal IS going on this adventure with a little droid pal, and I do intend to bring him back, so yeah. I think it'll totally be worth it.
Thanks Dan-O for doing the breakdown of each droid, their personality chips and accessories! To be honest, I wasn’t really originally into the idea of buying a droid that doesn’t actually do anything outside of the experience of building it and taking it around the parks. Plus that price point. The experience itself looks awesome, but maybe not much value outside the parks. However, seeing how you’re using your droids in your videos, both as display and ‘co-hosts’, I can see myself having something similar for my own upcoming channel (Jedi focused). So thank you for that inspiration on top of all your efforts. If I ever actually get myself to Batuu, I’ll definitely pick one up. Also, it occurred to me that it’s a major missed opportunity that Disney didn’t actually put in any droid-to-droid interaction outside the parks. Even if that interaction was basic, and if it demoed well, people would be buying and building TWO droids, just to unlock that ability and show their friends at home. It would have added to the pull on fans to go to GE. They probably would have sold way more droids. But I guess cast members were telling people that there IS home interaction when there isn’t. Certainly cheaper than actually putting in said interaction, but certainly shady as fk as well. So thanks for busting that myth and making it crystal clear what we’re getting. Much appreciated. Much respect. Finally subscribed. ✌🏻
The droids absolutely do interact with another outside the parks. The B-units are quieter and less responsive in general it seems, but a couple of R units will definitely talk to each other all day if you let them.
Based on this video (my first Dan-O Channel vid I've seen) I'd say it's totally worth it for an R unit! I've been looking for a reason and excuse to get a droid and this video convinced me that this is the one for me! I think I'm going with the Purple chip with the tool set, great video, great personality, keep up the good work!
I was just at Disney Last week, and it was a fantastic experience. While the droid itself may be a little overpriced, it was worth it for the experience!
I got mine droids last week and they do interact with each other, one has to be still and the other you have to move it toward the still droid and sometimes the one that is still will react to the other one
Totally cool.. totally worth the experience with my 7 year old Star Wars nut. Thank you for your videos. Your a good guy.. we appreciate you. We're going for five days in September. We're planning on getting building an R-series Droid W/ blasters/Jets. My son doesn't think we're able to build a light saber but I'm going to surprise him. We're also going to adopt a few animals. Oh and The C3PO. Also I'm getting the DJ Rex speaker Droid. We're gonna drop cash like it's hot. P.S. you're awesome
I found you because of this video and I am really appreciating just how in-depth you go. I'm from Alaska, so it's expensive enough just getting TO Galaxy's Edge, I don't want to spend more money than I already have. But at the same time, I think I will get one because I feel the experience of building it is worth it (to me). Keep up the great work!
I just built my RD-40 about a week ago. They offered the bag and chip for around $170.00 approximately. I’m a 40 year old dude if you are in Disney World it is totally worth it. The cast members were totally in character and it was actually my birthday so they said happy sunseting day. In terms of the lightsaber my wife bought me the $170.00 Darth Vader version lightsaber (black box rogue one) it is almost identical and totally worth it. Get to the droid depot you will have so much fun. I just subscribed today!
I've gotten my brothers and my own droid to interact. It takes 1min to start and another min to do it again. One beeps and boops and then the other beeps and boops back

Glad I found this new channel to sub to with fun toy and collectible vids!
I’m going to Disney world in Florida in November and going to the galaxy’s edge they are opening there soon and just wanted to let you know that you helped me decide which Droid I’m getting and the accessories as well so thanks
I'm going next week. Not building a droid. If in fact they DONT interact with each other, it's a huge waste. Because when you take it home you've essentially paid $100 for a remote controlled paperweight. My fiancee is gonna use hers to drive her cats nuts -_-
I was at Galaxy's Edge Disneyland literally last Tuesday, and built my own droid. You are literally holding the droid I wanted to build! In my excitement I accidentally grabbed the blue C unit body. Disney was nice enough to let me exchange bodies, but unfortunately they didn't have any blue R unit bodies. Only black, white and red. But I REALLY wanted the blue body, so I decided to live with it. But if I could find a blue body with white panels for sale, I'd buy it! So if anyone has one, hit me up!
Great video. My main concern was about the personality chips and the differences between them. Love that you were able to give a demo of each. I got my R2 last week, and the carry bag, but was in such a hurry to make it to my res at Savi's that I didn't get the chips. Thankfully, have family going this month, who will pick them up for me. Cheers!
Personally. Buy the bot, buy a chip to make them really yours because trust me the voices give the droids more individuality instead of being recovered r2’s. And probably skip out on the backpack if you’re tight on money. I carried my R5 all day and didn’t really mind.

Keep up the great work!
Based on the zero time of change in voices when a new chip is installed, how much do you want to bet all of the sounds are preloaded and the chips are “keys” to unlock content? How long for a hacker to create a master unlock chip? 😊
It could also be more like a USB drive with the mp3 files on it. The droid simply has to read the file from the chip and play it. It wouldn't take any loading time either.

My Droid was 15 bucks and It had Popcorn in it and looks like R2.
My friend told me to check out this video and I'm so glad he did. My kids will be building their droids next month and knowing about the sounds for personality chips is really helpful!!
Thanks again! i subscribed!
kdj29 wow! Yeah they are hitting some major growing pains in the inventory department. Maybe I’ll see you around black spire. Welcome to the squad!
I like that First Order Purr. Love the R Droids, but I don’t seem to need the accessories. I do love the backpack.
Just finished our visit, and got a droid. For us it was worth it. The kids love it, for that alone it’s worth it. Nice video.
It looks like R2 gets all the accessories. BB doesn't get jack extra outside of the personality chips.
@@Sbevewagon4493 I mean bb-8 did that thumbs up, and that's about it.
Thank you so much for buying all of the accessories and chips. I have been struggling to decide which droid I will build when I go to galaxy’s edge, but after watching your video I have a clear decision. I also now know which accessories and chip will fit my style. Much appreciated!
Glad to help
Ok, so I just subbed I've been watching all your Galaxies Edge vids. Loving it! I Just built a lifesize R2 (well he's almost done anyway) and yes I'd still buy a droid. He'd be alot easier to chase my cat with than the full size.. lol I live in Canada so a trip there is a huge investment for me but I really want to get there. Oh and I'm a 42 year old man and I love that you have fun with what you do. There's no shame in happiness.
Couldn't agree more man. No shame in happiness!
How do you learn to build a full droid?
And do you know what the best R2-D2 to buy is? Most interactive and cool one?
I see there are more expensive ones.
Dano thanks for the blaster advice I was clueless as to how to fit them until I watched this!
The only accessory I think might be worth it might be the drink tray, that way you could display the Droid in a bar /mancave arrangement, or a bachelor's pad kinda deal.
scotianbank now I’m just imagining a bar tender having a little r2 unit with drinks as a decoration
could you imagine a droid scream on a ride that would be amazing
There might not of had ap discounts a couple weeks ago but im at Disneyland now and you are allowed to use ap discount
On the build your own droid?
@@Dan-O i was there yesterday, im pretty certain my aunt didnt get an AP discount.
Best Review I have ever seen! Thanks! The force is strong with you!
Kinda a good deal, as you get the experience as well. The sphero R2 is £150 ready assembled and no expereance
Glad to hear you had a great time. You should join my group MubosDBC.com where we show off and customize our droids!
Thank you for going over the personality chips!
Okay good sir the moment you decided to put the second blaster on instead of cutting it short was the moment you got my sub! Thanks for the awesome video!
Great review, thanks for the details and thorough explanation. Very much appreciated!
My wife and I made our yesterday. We took them out when we got up and they been talking to each other all morning. I guess mileage varies
Awesome video! I didn’t realize that the droids have so many different functions and I like the amount of customization with them.
The Droid Depot will be my first stop if and when I visit Star Wars Galaxy's Edge
Thank you I was going to buy two so they could react with each other thank you are going to save me a lot of money when I go
I plan on making an R unit when I go to Galaxy’s Edge in the fall and you definitely saved me a little bit of time and money by playing all the sounds. I knew I wanted a First Order droid but not which personality chip specifically. Thanks to you I know I definitely want the black one.
Can confirm that they actually do interact with each other
Yup he's trippin mine talk to eachother all the time
My son and I built droids a couple of days ago…he went with a Bb unit and I went with an r series…we went home and they interact with each other…when we got home and forgot to turn them off, they would occasionally talk to each other
I heard in another review they interact if they both have 1 of the same personality chips, but like you said if they dont mention it on the employees sheet they most likely dont at all :/ great vid, cant wait for the BB review
I don't normally comment on videos, But you did a very good job of reviewing this R2 unit, Clear, concise and well spoken. Thank you.
.
Thank you for playing all the chips! I was wanting to know what they all sounded like.
Tbh I love there cameos in videos and the beeps and boops my fav chips are the black and purple
When I was a kid I always wanted to make my own astromech, I can’t wait to go next year!
I know! They were advertising the banshees in pandora, but didn't shoe off the droids like that? Nuts 😂😂
Bruh the droids interact outside of the park
Thank you! I threw out the instructions for my sons droid and tried looking everywhere for how to install tool accessory kit. You rock!
I got mine droids last week and they do interact with each other, one has to be still and the other you have to move it toward the still droid and sometimes the one that is still will react to the other one
I just got my droid yesterday and I love it!
Thanks for the info. I'm going to be waiting a while before I go into the land. So I have time to consider everything.
I just got back from Disney and building my R-droid. Super excited for the possibilities!
Thanks! I hope you guys have a fun trip!
My family is going in September
@@lunarsniper2477 7-13 for us
I’m really looking forward to running a droid around the hallways at work... Can’t thank you enough for saving me money & time!
I might need blasters...(we still have astro blasters from Toy Story, amazing to think they aren’t still available)
Feeling the vibes!! I wanna go back! Making a lightsaber was sick and I’m looking forward to building my buddy!!! 🤙
This guy is a Metroid fan I already like him.
One beeps and boops and then the other beeps and boops back
Sonder Time how?!!
Or, they just beep and boom randomly on a specific timeframe and yeah.
Going back to WDW next week after 7 years. This fab video answered all of my questions. I am now v.excited to get my own little buddy. Thanks! 👍
Cant wait to see this video from one of the best and nicest guy’s (youtubers)😁👍 thank you for showing me how whort star wars galaxy’s edge is
*tries to tri-angulate where Dan-O lives based off his time and gas usage to get to Disneyland*
Seriously tho, thanks for reviewing the droids in such detail! Your vids presentation is so laid back and easy to watch and follow along.
Las vegas
The Dan-O Channel - Oh nice! Then yeh you’re a bit closer than me. Moved away from So Cal to Nor Cal in the early 2000s so totally feel that “Disney is riiiiighht there... but not really...” pull. Lol thought maybe the $100 was a round up or you just have a ginormous car :p.
Just started checking out your vids and love em! Glad I found this new channel to sub to with fun toy and collectible vids!
Great video! Love watching your reviews! Keep up the great work!
I honestly love the black chip, sounds very primal and ominous.
Im uh drink servin... tool using... jet pack flying... back pack riding....blaster firing....sonuvagun!
woooo !!
Cheers!
I think for the chips that kne is for a bb unit and the other one for an r2 unit
It's just the way they sound to me
Personally. Buy the bot, buy a chip to make them really yours because trust me the voices give the droids more individuality instead of being recovered r2’s. And probably skip out on the backpack if you’re tight on money. I carried my R5 all day and didn’t really mind.
Hopefully Disney will release a chip for the Droids to talk to each other
They did tweak the old build-your-own lightsabers after a while... maybe they can tweak the droids in a couple of years, too.
@@andrewjenkins9965 well hopefully not years but within the next year for there one year anniversary I bet they'll have special edition Droid parts just like Pandora did for the banshees
Thank you for all the work you put into these videos. My family is going in March, and I was deciding between the light saber and building a droid. I can tell you put a ton of money and time into these videos. We will be getting a droid in the R series!
The blue one sounds like a dialup connection. xD
Thank you Dan-O for all the great info! I just purchased my 3rd R unit tonight and love them all, the experience, the searching for parts and building. Letting us know the sounds of each chip has taken the guess work out of it. Thanks again! Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else who shows up at the Droid meet up at Disneyland Oct. 12th.

Ruthsarians channel has a lot more information. As well as a tutorial on replicating the Bluetooth beacons that trigger the interactive behaviour... He explains the logic behind the tech and shows that the droids do interact with each other on an average 2minute polling interval, the same as reacting to the beacons isn't always instant
I love my droid and do plan to have them as a companion when I return to Batuu.
I'll be getting the orange chip and im getting the r-droid blasters
We are going for only 1 day and have reservations for Savi's Lightsaber and Droid depot. Definitely getting an R2 with chips and panels.
Your R2 uit should be name BondJames Bond R2 B7 a spy for the Resistance. The light saber and droid are both money worth it.
