Great recap on this. I love how you incorporate the cartoon pics so we can see the likenesses side by side. Keep up the great work Sony! Merry Christmas!
I went with Gigapower since they were cheaper at the time I started collecting the set. Also FansToys was not really reissuing figures in 2019. Both are great choices. I agree the Giga boys make the MPs look small. To each his own. I love the bigger dinos. Great reviews
I’m so glad I started on the Gigapower set when there was no sign of a Fanstoys reissue. I love the bigger, beefier, shinier, more imposing look of them.
I lucked out, at first I had me a few FT Dinos when they first came out, sold them, and then afterwards got them at about the same price they originally came with, mainly the reissues of Grimlock and Snarl, in 2018, then I got me a Slag with the toy deco and Swoop, both pretty much almost brand new at $130 a piece, from an independent seller, I am waiting for my reissue Sludge, and I will complete them.
Sucks that I can’t find Snarl (Guttur) or Slag (Grassor) ANYWHERE! Except ebay which everyone is selling them for $400+. Bro if I was going to spend $400+ on a transformer I’d buy a combiner. I got a whole Bruticus for $412, the zeta toys one. And it feels like none of the stores that keep them at a relatively reasonable price ever gets them back in stock. Tis sad, cause I have Grimlock and Swoop with Sludge coming in soon. Really wanted the whole gang but apparently that isn’t happening.
Nice summary to close the set of reviews. Cant go wrong with either set, looking forward to seeing the final three Weathered X versions of the Gigapower set.
I did not expect to own any of the Fanstoys Dinobots considering how outrageous after market prices. I saw Stomp for $800 once, I was like FUCK THAT, then he got a reissue, THANK PRIMUS! But I am glad to say I intend to display Gigapower in Robit mode and Fanstoys in Dino mode :D
I ended up buying the reissues of the Gigapower Dinobots for a good price point and even with the FT also being reissued the prices were way better so in the end I'm happy with what I own. Thanks for the overall comparison result TMReviews.
Just wanted to thank you for all the time you put in for these comparisons. I can't imagine how long it took. I started collecting after most of these guys were out, and decided that I liked that FansToys better. At that time, Grinder and Sever were the only ones available. I was also naive at that time and thought i could wait to get them. Then shit got super hot and hard to get (remember $600+ for the regular version of Stomp? ). Fast forward to today, and now i've got 2 FT dinos, and probably years to wait until the other 3 get re-relased (if ever). So I've made the choice to get GP. My dinobots team will be mixed for now (staying in alt mode). This series of videos helped me make that decision. Can't wait for Superator to arrive in a couple of weeks and start to finish up (in some capacity anyhow) one of my fav childhood teams. Maybe one day I'll have a set of each, but if I don't - this will work just fine
I guess the grimlock is pretty good on toon accuracy, but sculpt is kinda hit or miss with gaps and holes all over the place, fine for retail but no comparison to 3P
Great review! I have been comparing Superator and Grinder on Chosen Prime trying to decide. I have a couple Gigapower bot and no Fans toys. But you explained that the Fans toys and cartoon accurate and slightly smaller. So I guess I need a second job for those purchases. Gigapower makes some tuff bots. My ex girlfriend broke a dozen of my masterpieces and the only one that survived the Slag. Snarls head is becoming a trophy for Tarn. Slag is too tall for the Autobot display, and he's toy accurate. I need to do like you have, and get both. Great comparison video! You saved me from buying 3 expensive bots.
Again well done! I went with Fans Toys because I grew up with the G1 cartoon but as you mentioned in the end we are all winners because the quality of these third party figures is just off the charts. Thanks for sharing.
I've had the Gigapower bots (chrome versions) on my shelf for a while now, and they are still as impressive today as they were when I first got them, but I feel that while the larger size looks amazing in dino mode, they're a bit too big in bot mode. In a perfect world, I'd get the FT set as well for their more toon accurate bot modes, but sadly, there's no guarantee they'll re-release Scoria, Sever and Grinder.
I had a breaking issue on gigapower and tried to contact the company but they wouldn't reply nor read my email Do you what have happened to gigapowertoys company or manufacture I would appreciate if you answer lol
Im new to tranaformers collecting and this video is what convinced me to pickup a gigapower superator aka grimlock. Appreciate the comparison between fanstoys n gigapower.
Both sets do indeed rock. I would have to go with Gigapower, though, just because I think that in terms of scale, the Dinobots should be quite a bit bigger than say your Season 1 Autobots & Decepticons that ain't Skyfire/Jetfire & Devastator.
I guess i'm one of the lucky ones to own both sets when they started coming out. Unfortunately I missed out on Perfect Fusion Ceasium because I didn't think I need to replace Scoria, but I think i'd be okay with it. Both sets are good, but I keep the GP on dino mode and FT on bot mode because they are more cartoon accurate to me at least. But you can't go wrong.either or
I'm impressed on how good Gigapower seems to be. I went with FansToys when they upped their quality during their Dinobot run. Toon accuracy over toy accuracy it is.
I prefer the fanstoys by a Longshot tbh. The fantoys are far more in line with the golden era of official masterpiece. In terms of paint, size, and sculpt. Obviously accuracy isn't everything but the paint on gigapower just being metallic everywhere looks super cheap to me in terms of quality. I understand I'm in the minority here but it is what it is what it is I guess gigapower just knows the market better. I will say gigapower is smart for making them much bigger, I think that's a huge up for a lot of people even if it is inaccurate.
I have 4 of the 5 Gigapower and 3 of the 5 Fanstoys. I love Dinobots, I probably will buy Dinobots until the day I die, I ain't getting rid of them lol
Having both sets, I cannot go FTs...GP is just in another League. We always Refer FTs with Paint and Sculpt, Well this time it's GP. Hardware and Articulation GP, Feel and Engineering GP except Sludge, and we get to Pressence, well we know who wins that 1 too...GP Dominates here. Very few times FTs will lose a Comparison, but this time Not Even Close. Thanks TM.
I have the Gigapower set. I am happy with it, but I came to an awakening that none of these set regardless if it was Fanstoys or Gigapower are NOT G1 accurate at all; even the MP08 Takara is not G1 accurate either. It is like the MP10 situation where everyone was debating that MP10 was G1 accurate until MP44, TE01, and MS01 came out then everyone has seen the light. Or with the Seekers when finally the latest iteration of Takara MP seekers and Deformation Space came out.
Well since FT made the improved version of their Slug, I don’t think you should use scoria which is the oldest one for this. Also I think as the later release by GP, their dinobots supposes to be the better ones, otherwise they just haven’t get their homework done 😅 I mean if there are already FT dinobots sitting in the table for you to look at, and you going to make a better one from studying at them don’t you?
Gigapower has several years advantage from any of the FansToys Iron Dibots. All the GP figures came out years behind their FT counterparts. GP was able to learn from FT mistakes. That said... I'm sticking with my FT because I completed the set before GP even got out their 2nd figure. Except for FT Grinder. Bought him, hated him, sold him. Just garbage proportions...I went with a OS KO of MP-8 which I think "looks" perfect. I would get the GP Superator but it is all shiny silver (which looks fantastic BTW) and none of my FT Dibots are silver so it doesn't match.
After buying the KO version of Giga power grimlock.. I’m going to finish off my dinosbots with Giga power due to the relative size vs all my masterpiece collection to scale with tune accuracy.
The score shows that their older figures (Soar, Scoria) were outdated compared to the most recent GP figures. The thing with FT's is that they were game changing when they appeared, as there wasn't other MP Dinobots at that point. The other thing is that GP by default has paint in all the figures, so in terms of deco, the X versions would look better side to side, but since they were limited edition (and significantly more expensive), the score also goes to GP for delivering painted figures. I have the X versions and I'm happy with them. but I feel the build issues in the old figures (Soar's ankles are trash! and Scoria's leg articulation can't sustain the heavy feet, plus the tail in the back, though very G1 toy accurate, is not very pleasant to look at.)
i LOVE toon accuracy on my figures, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, and the fans toys has exactly that, the only thing i think the gigapower one had thats better is the size, i want all the fans toys dinobots to be as big as the gigapower ones OR they make the gigapower ones being 100% toon accurate
I picked Gigapower as the Dinobots have always been my favorite Transformers team. Better linework, detail, size and paint. I like the G1 toon esthetic over the G1 toys and G1 comics but when in masterpiece scale I think it sometimes comes off bland when the models don't allow for much detail or linework to make them ultra G1 to the figure's determent. I also appreciate a scale that let's the Dinobots be huge and intimidating. I feel this gives the team still a niche even after lots of time passes in the cartoon and other groups can combine and the Dinobots can still battle them fiercely ever without have to resort to an upgrade to combine into a single bot. I would even buy other G1 stylized Dinobots that were not cannon if Gigapower made them. I would also love them to make a set of Predacons. I think they would make them really well with just enough artistic license without going overboard.
I don't want to make you broke but I'd love you to put studio series Dinobots in the mix too. I love my giant giga Snarl Guttur. So gold with his clean energy powers and Commander Class size. I have him as Optimus Leader Class power of the primes body guard. Love you videos
Purely subjective. Gigapower weapons are OVERDONE by a long shot. And if FT had made their robots the size of GP from the beginning I would not even look at GP. I have both and they have their plusses and minuses. Neither is better than the other just different IMHO...

Yup definitely not worth 800
I'm planning to add a couple dinos to my MP Grimlock; does the Gigapower line scale ok with him? I suspect they might be a bit large.
Not at all, MP is tiny in comparison
I ended up buying the reissues of the Gigapower Dinobots for a good price point and even with the FT also being reissued the prices were way better so in the end I'm happy with what I own.

I'm going FT for bot and Giga in dino. Loving the outcome so far. Just need Giga Swoop and then FT Grimlock and Slag to finish it off.
How would you compare these to the studio series Dinobots?
You can't really compare them, studio series is a retail line made for mass market. It has no diecast and very little paint
@@TMReviews I was thinking in terms of sculpt and cartoon accuracy since you were comparing these to them.
