Just looking at a map and punching some numbers here....I'm curious what kind of itinerary you were shooting for that you'd be disappointed coming down Princeton before sunset and ready to hit Yale by midnight. If you left Shavano TH at 4am that morning, that would mean you did >18k feet of gain in your first 20 hours with your pack at its heaviest. Am I missing something? That feels like your sub 60 was still within reach!
Ideally for a ~60hr finish, you'll want to be summiting Yale ~17:30 in. Hitting Yale at midnight means a descend down that damn avalanche gully really early in the morning, which is a big ask. The 7th mountain is Columbia, 2 more mountains later, and roughly, if you're at the summit 30 hours in (or more specifically at the bottom of the Pine Creek basin), you're half of the mountains down in half the time. Chances after that start slipping you'll be hitting negative splits making up time. I'd really love to compile a more thorough model to estimate trip time - there's probably enough data now out there to make some back of the envelop estimates while out on the course.
@@TheLongRanger Ah. I see. Still, I don't think you should be disappointed with your time. Joey Camps 2018 run (not the '20 FKT) saw him summit Yale 19:23 in, at 1:24am. He squeaked out a sub 60 with that. I think 2023 is your year!
@@sanfransimo Joey is such a crusher - I had the honor to meet him last year when he was supporting Andrea. Where did you grab his splits? His blog? I should really start compiling these numbers. Love to make a little prediction app for future runs
