I can’t say how many times I have seen this, but I still get full body chills over and over and it always brings me to tears. Every time I went to see my Dad before he died, he showed me this performance. He always said, that’s not singing, that’s worship. We played this at his funeral.
I just thought to myself this needs to be played at my funeral. My grandparents had amazing grace played at theirs, but this is just amazing. So beautiful.
I cry often when watching this. The song as a whole, the powerful, powerful voice of Carrie Underwood and the VOICE that Vince Gill gives this guitar. In my humble opinion likely the best live recorded song of all time. All time.
I love that you just let the artists sing\play when it calls for it! As they say , Carrie and Vince took us all the way to church with this one! Great reaction as always!
That was OUTSTANDING! No other word to describe it. They moved everyone that night…..everyone. The authentic emotion in her voice is palpable. Vince’s voice and guitar playing is as smooth as it gets
I think the part that puts this all in place for me is seeing Jennifer Nettles (Of Sugarland, who has amazing pipes herself), you can see her mouth the words "What a voice" at 6:08. I also get chills and tears when listening to this...every time. Thanks for the reaction!
I get chills every time I watch this video of Carrie and Vince. It’s my all time favorite colab. *side note that PRS is gorgeous !! Luv the body color and design with the neck color. Chefs kiss !!!
Soloing around the melody. Check out Vince and Patty Loveless performing Vince’s song “Go Rest High on That Mountain” at the George Jones memorial/funeral show. Vince is so choked and emotional he can’t sing the third verse so after the piano/violin bridge he solos around the melody on acoustic guitar while he composes himself for the last chorus. He’s an absolute master.
The passion for Christ that this song is delivered in is so inspiring and incredible. Jesus Christ wants a relationship with all of us, whether you’re a follower or not. Thank you for sharing your experience. Praise God 🙏✝️
I have watched this performance million times on a million channels.........I cry EVERY TIME!! Really enjoyed your reaction, nothing extra, pure and simple as is the performance. True talent.
That is actually the shortened version of this performance- Vince’s guitar solo was longer than that, and awesome, but it was Carrie’s lungs that made that so incredible. Not a huge fan of most of her music, but my God that girl can sing.
You would love a live performance of Vince Gill, Kris Stapleton, and Keith Urban playing live in a small venue together, their playing Keith’s hit Blues Not Your Color no vocals just guitars just great down to earth. There is also a video of Vince doing an interview with college students in his home, barefoot and shorts. You would love part of his collection of guitars just hands a student one of his priceless guitars and says you play this, I’ll grab another one. Just a good jam session.
2:55 THIS is a statement more profound than even you may realize. The song IS the MESSAGE and the Melody IS the song. without the melody the message is lost. And a song without a message really has no melody and vice versa ... what a shame it's too long for a bumper sticker or a T-shirt. .. But true just the same. Michael, Love your passion and insight. Both of these artists have a relationship with the message and the song.5:00 Carrie displays it from her heart.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you react to this performance. I reacted the same way. Just stopped what you are doing, and take it in. As far as that beautifully simple guitar solo? My husband is a drummer, and he always says (to all musicians) it's not always about what you play. Sometimes it's about what you DON'T play! 😊😊
Vince Gill is an Incredible guitar player. And this was back when Underwood actually sang with beautiful vocals. Instead of screaming and acting like a rock chick like she’s been doing the past couple years
Your analysis of the song was 100% accurate. The song is bigger than the performers. This is my favorite gospel song. It is a praise to God, which makes it even more powerful. You can tell this song gave Carrie and Vince a sense of humility, because they served the song and the audience; not themselves.
I agree, that was a disservice to him by the one who made the recommendation. I think his reaction, seeing the full version, would have been much different. Personally, I always recommend the full version. Vince and Carrie did an awe inspiring job with this song. 😊
Check out Vince Gill's performance of "Go Rest High On That Mountain" at George Jones's memorial service. The emotions overtook Vince in the middle, and he let his guitar do the talking for him. It is one of the most amazing and human moments of music ever captured on film. Thanks for sharing this with everyone, Michael!
Vince Gill is a guitarists' guitarist. I've often wondered why he's not brought up in EVERY conversation of the best players ever. Supremely talented. And holy shit - that voice of Carrie. Unreal.
One of the most wonderful hymns ever written, sung and felt so beautifully, by both Carrie and Vince. An absolute pleasure to listen to. God bless them, and God bless YOU, Michael! Thank you for the service you perform for your fellow human beings! Much love to you, too.
Michael, I was raised on this song! I’ve been listening to this Carrie and Vince clip for many years. You’re right, it’s simple, clean, and so powerful! Thanks for throwing in a gospel song!
It’s a Saturday night for me, and I’m just going through the routine watching UA-cam videos and chilling out… and listening to this I had to put the beer down and close my eyes because it just brought me to church.
one of my favorite recordings ever. I cry everytime. As soon as i saw you posted it I instantly clicked. These two put on an absolute masterclass for everything you always preach about.
I appreciate you doing this song, Michael. Thanks Brandon for the suggestion. Michael, I watch most of your song/musician reviews and have prayed for you on several occasions as you have exposed your life and soul. Blessings. God is great! Jesus loves you.
You're welcome! At the beginning of the video, you can see two other videos I've suggested in the past "Incurable Sadness" and "Goodbye World." Both great songs, by great musicians, with great, intimate delivery. I too have prayed for Michael as I believe we share some struggles. While I tend to favor depressing songs (or just those that allow us to express sadness), I couldn't shake the feeling that I needed to pause and recognize that God is good, He is great, and appreciate the talent that He gave all the musicians in the video too.
One of the most beautiful musical performances on this platform … something to watch every so often when seeking inspiration, not sure if you’ve covered Corey Henry’s cover of Purple Rain, but that’s another one that just needs to be watched multiple times, or the performance of Amazing Grace from Bonnaroo by Mumford and friends 👌
when vince comes in at 1:20 chills, he never steps in the spotlight rather lifts the song into the clouds. so pure in delivery it brings you to tears. raw power, but not forceful power, carrie is channeling some divine power, truly angelic. wow. this is church.
Charlie Daniels did a great version of this hymn as well, with a great fingerstyle intro and verse that builds into a triumphant worship anthem by the end
I got to meet Vince Gill at his mom's house on Christmas day in 1992. He was still married to his first wife Janice Gill (from Sweethearts of the Rodeo) and his daughter Jenny was 9 at the time. Jenny was such a sweet kid (now a really great woman). Janice stayed upstairs and didn't even come down to say hello. I thought that was crappy, but whatever. Vince lived up to his nickname "Sweet Pea" (from George Jones). One of the nicest celebrities you could ever meet.
_Nice review! FYI: The clip of Vince Gill's solo is cut short on this... I'm not sure who sent you this video, but it cuts to the 2nd verse before the solo has finished. (It's simply a replay of the chorus, but Vince does flavorful chord progressions that are not shown here.)_
Michael, this video is only half of Vince Gill's solo. You can listen to the rest of the solo at the link below. He is just getting warmed up in the first part. ua-cam.com/video/IJ12Fd0AlAw/v-deo.html
WOW!!.. just freaking wow! I've watched this at least 50 times, no kidding, and I can't find anymore adjectives in Mr. Websters book to describe it. Carrie's voice over shadows everything, but don't miss Vince's tenor harmonies, and his incredible, flawless guitar solo. This is one for the ages.
I've seen this a LOT and I'm always struck by the perfection of Vince's subtly against Carrie's absolutely inspired vocals. His humility during this performance is just inspiring.
Damn near swallowing the Microphone THE GAL UPSTAGES VINCE with Power and staying over the melody line, holding notes and reaching like it was December 31st at midnight ...... just too bad the duet was not more Vince Gill .... his beautiful natural tenor is so engaging .... don't get me wrong Carrie can blow ! But, two voices need be respecting the harmony and that is not happening with that potent gal on lead ! Enjoyed it for what it was ..... want a PROPER HARMONIC STELLAR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SONG = Listen to HOME FREE version of HOW GREAT THOU ART ..... will blow your mind !!! GBjj
"I want to point something out to you". And that was right after showing a clip of the audience and Blake Shelton sitting next to the ex Miranda Lambert 🤣. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
You actually only heard a portion of Vince Gills guitar solo. Not sure what they did but they cut it short on the version you watched. Wait until you hear the full guitar solo from the original performance. Would love to hear you try to replicate his tone…
Is there an age where one is too old to learn the guitar ? Say a guy wants to learn and he’s older but attacks every problem or situation with the scientific method approach. Thanks!!
FYI, her first performance of How Great Thou Art on the Grand Opry , is pure gold…. She was fresh off winning American Idol, it was so pure, so angelic, not so forced, as this with Vince. So moving 🎶🎶🎶💖💘
SAME! I bawl every time
I cry often when watching this. The song as a whole, the powerful, powerful voice of Carrie Underwood and the VOICE that Vince Gill gives this guitar. In my humble opinion likely the best live recorded song of all time. All time.

I am in awe Everytime I listen to this and tear up Everytime as well!!!!!
Amen.

Her pipes are second to none
I like how your reaction paralleled Vince’s performance. No unnecessary embellishments; you let the “melody” be the star. You’re awesome!
I get chills every time I watch this video of Carrie and Vince. It’s my all time favorite colab.
*side note that PRS is gorgeous !! Luv the body color and design with the neck color. Chefs kiss !!!
Soloing around the melody.

He’s an absolute master.
When you put a power house like carrie and a master like Vince. Perfection ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same
BET YOU I HAVE YOU BEAT... SHE NAILED THIS TO FEEL LIKE CHURCH....... BRAVO.....
Same.
Absolutely perfect reaction. You're commentary and self reflection is spot on. Sometimes you just sit back and enjoy and play the melody.
That is actually the shortened version of this performance- Vince’s guitar solo was longer than that, and awesome, but it was Carrie’s lungs that made that so incredible. Not a huge fan of most of her music, but my God that girl can sing.
Best ever live performance in history of ever!
Always get goosebumps on this one.
If you don't cry watching this performance... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I get taken to church everytime I hear this. Nobody will ever do this song better than Vince and Carrie. Good things actually do come from Oklahoma.
your Reaction, makes you a Real Brother to me.. meny blessings and Greatings from Switzerland.. you do very Good, with your Chanel..

I agree - sometimes you've just got to enjoy it.
This version is the cut version... originally it aired with the guitar solo twice as long
2:55 THIS is a statement more profound than even you may realize. The song IS the MESSAGE and the Melody IS the song. without the melody the message is lost. Goose bumps
Please review Vince Gill and Patty Loveless performing Go Rest High On That Mountain at George Jones's funeral.
Hey Michael, you gotta check out "Don't Tell Alley" by Joe Jordan. He is a great story teller and this song just makes you emotional.
Nice, brother!
Pure klasse
Vince Gill is an Incredible guitar player.
And this was back when Underwood actually sang with beautiful vocals. Instead of screaming and acting like a rock chick like she’s been doing the past couple years
You really want to hear this version - Vince's ride is twice as long - he has a lot more to say!
ua-cam.com/video/IJ12Fd0AlAw/v-deo.html
I was thinking the same thing, Vince’s solo was cut big time.
Whhyyyy would they send you the version with half the guitar solo cut off. Big fail.
Short version of the guitar solo.
Oh no! The cut version! So sad he got the wrong one to react to by a country mile. Oh well. It is what it is.
Your analysis of the song was 100% accurate. The song is bigger than the performers. This is my favorite gospel song. It is a praise to God, which makes it even more powerful. You can tell this song gave Carrie and Vince a sense of humility, because they served the song and the audience; not themselves.
If that doesn't give you goosebumps, you're broken. One of the greatest live performances, so damn powerful.
Sadly you got the cut version. There is the uncut where Vince did the choruse as a guitar solo.
I agree, that was a disservice to him by the one who made the recommendation. I think his reaction, seeing the full version, would have been much different. Personally, I always recommend the full version. Vince and Carrie did an awe inspiring job with this song. 😊
This is a once in a lifetime performance. ❤ 🔥

Brandon’s right. Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs with Vince is the ticket.
Absolutely. There's nothing better on UA-cam.
Vince Gill is a guitarists' guitarist. I've often wondered why he's not brought up in EVERY conversation of the best players ever. Supremely talented. And holy shit - that voice of Carrie. Unreal.

Thank you for the service you perform for your fellow human beings! Much love to you, too.
Vince epitomizes the concept of phrasing in this performance!
Just amazing. Nothing less than amazing!
You always know when to just let the song play. I appreciate that about you
Michael, I was raised on this song! I’ve been listening to this Carrie and Vince clip for many years. You’re right, it’s simple, clean, and so powerful! Thanks for throwing in a gospel song!

Grace. All Glory and Thanks be to God for all!
Complete goosebumps it’s was unbelievable 😊
That harmony...
This is actually an edited version. He played for a bit longer on the live showing.
What a joy to see this pop up. Thanks Michael. Brought me to tears. Again. Blessings.
I appreciate you doing this song, Michael. Thanks Brandon for the suggestion. Michael, I watch most of your song/musician reviews and have prayed for you on several occasions as you have exposed your life and soul. Blessings. God is great! Jesus loves you.

Yesss Michael!! More Vince Gill please!!!
Beautiful and so very powerful. Pure talent.
What I learned is… I never tire of hearing this uber talented duo sing this meaningful hymn! One of my fave performances. Thx Michael….🙏🇺🇸
when vince comes in at 1:20 chills, he never steps in the spotlight rather lifts the song into the clouds. so pure in delivery it brings you to tears. raw power, but not forceful power, carrie is channeling some divine power, truly angelic. wow. this is church.
Please react to the group “BOSTON”
More Than a Feeling.
And Peace of Mind
Charlie Daniels did a great version of this hymn as well, with a great fingerstyle intro and verse that builds into a triumphant worship anthem by the end
Chills. The emotions on your face throughout mirror mine.
You missed most of the guitar solo. Need to find version that shows the entire thing
I got to meet Vince Gill at his mom's house on Christmas day in 1992. He was still married to his first wife Janice Gill (from Sweethearts of the Rodeo) and his daughter Jenny was 9 at the time. Thanks for sharing that! I never knew the version I suggested was cut short.
Watched this perfomance for the nth time and still get goosebumps. You can feel the Holy Spirit, believer or not, Carrie and Vince took us to Church.

It's okay though. Any Vince solo no matter how brief, is noteworthy.
Pure and honest. Master talents. No need for fancy riffs.
I tried to do this song with my voice teacher but I could never do it justice. That last stanza gets me every dang time!
This song ALWAYS brings me to tears, no matter who sings it but THIS combination gives me chills with it! Love Vince Gill anyway!!!
Thanks Mate . Appreciate your comments.
You’ve reacted to “help” by John Farnham
With the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra?
"I want to point something out to you". And that was right after showing a clip of the audience and Blake Shelton sitting next to the ex Miranda Lambert 🤣. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Have you examined Gill/Loveless ‘Go rest high…upon the mountain?
I think I would have liked it so much more if she had given a lot less.
Watched this so many times and shed tears everytime. Carrie at here best and Vince never disappoints. WOW
You actually only heard a portion of Vince Gills guitar solo. Not sure what they did but they cut it short on the version you watched. Wait until you hear the full guitar solo from the original performance. Would love to hear you try to replicate his tone…
Bro, Vince has that guitar talking!!!!!❤❤
Sucks that you reacted to the version where they cut out half of the guitar solo but alguds
Unfortunately I think you picked the wrong video- pretty sure Vince does a longer guitar solo that was shortened in this video.
Is there an age where one is too old to learn the guitar ? Say a guy wants to learn and he’s older but attacks every problem or situation with the scientific method approach. Thanks!!
You need to check out
Stephen Wilson Jr., Hardy - Father's Son (Acoustic)
Home Free also has a wonderful rendition of How Great Thou Art filmed in the Austrian Alps.
Loved your reaction! I used to sing this in church Keep them coming! Love & peace!
There is another video where Vince's performance is much longer.
I named my cat "Sweet Pea" after Vince Gill as she can meow in that tenor range and she shows the same humility too.
Love that it was such a great performance it made you just want to listen for a moment… it is truly that good
Very nicely done but will never ever ever touch the GOAT Elvis version
This is a shortened version and all.of Vince's guitar playing was not on this one.
Have you listened to Eddy, Roy Clark or Glen Cambell??
“This is the real shit in case you weren’t sure.” Facts.
Unrelated but you look like Kirk Cousins😂😂😂
Amen 🙏🏻 sometimes you just gotta enjoy it 🎶🎶🎶🙌🏻💝🙏🏻🙏🏻
FYI, her first performance of How Great Thou Art on the Grand Opry , is pure gold…. She was fresh off winning American Idol, it was so pure, so angelic, not so forced, as this with Vince. So moving 🎶🎶🎶💖💘
The greatest rendition to date. Carrie is a gift from The Lord
Fantastic, God gets the GLORY!!!
never get tired of watching. How Great.....
