Soul Family Rising
This song will always be the party starter!!!!!
Okay Set it off may be the one rap song that is truly the one. 1984, 10 years old white kid. At a youth center learning about culture and break dancing. Made my mom get me Shell Toe Adidas, and went and bought fat laces. All the kids taught me moves. I am 49 now and this is the one that will always bring me back. No matter what. Only others were Jam on it, White line Highway, and planet rock. I will forever be grateful for the mark these songs have made on my soul.
Planet Rock is a whole mood 😂😂I love that jam born in 83 so this is my kinda music
Me too. 46 here
Rastafari Family and Soul Family vibrations
Watching the 1987 film, The Principal, brought me here! :)
First time I heard this song was in 95 when i first saw the movie - The Principal (1987)- and ive loved it ever since. Strafe FTW.
The whistle in the beginning of the song gets me hype every time!!!

yep!
Only if he created it but he stole it from a Band leader from Boston FROM THE E WATER BAND
Possibly
@@BlockBallerRecords If u have it? Post it. If true, or until I hear it, I'm a lean on he was inspired by. My reason- all his songs are some kind of similar: unique, proving his creative level way high
Oh yeah! I remember this in the early 80's - in Manhattan. Uptown 80's-90's Amsterdam Ave. Miss that time.
This song always puts me in a good mood :)
This song always puts me in a good mood
This song was blessed and sent down from the Gods above. Definitely came “from another place” other than Earth, that I’m convinced
This song almost always guaranteed a packed dance floor with everyone...and I mean EVERYONE...grooving hard to this jam. People would stop in the middle of a conversation just to run out on the dance floor. Block parties all over NYC, boom boxes blaring at basketball courts, and cars rolling to the local clubs would play this classic. Little did we know that we would have by far the best music to mingle with. Miss those days so much.
I remember there was a snippet of this song in "The Principal" w/ Jim Belushi.
Soon Togiola Yep, that's where I heard it for the first time on cable when I was a kid and loved it but never heard it again till 20 years later.

I LOVE THIS SONG THIS WAS THE JAM BACK IN THE DAYZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!
Ah how I miss that beat! This was one of the premier jams in the clubs of the 80's.
OMG!!! I love this song!!! this is so 80's house music at it's best...
Boy George said in an interview this was the very first house track he ever heard, and it basically started him as a DJ for electronic music!
interesting point but not necesarily true
Club night music gets you in the groove
Classic. This song was used by so many dj's in NY during the 84-85 era. I fricking loved it. I had it on most of my mixtapes and radio show mixes. WBLS, MR MAGIC. 97KISSFM RED ALERT ETC....... Salute to Strafe for this smash. I used to break to this #SETITOFF
This was the song back in the day, loved this song to death!
This song made me want to be a dj. I first heard it at a Rock Steady party in the early 80's in the Bronx.
THE ROXY NYC ! it was CRAZY heard this song months b4 it was played on the radio, and even after it was played on the radio it still was HOT.
This is one of my all time favorites. They don't make them like this any more. I still want to dance drink and whatever I use to do back in the day when I hear this.
If put thumbs down YOU WASNT THERE PERIOD! SET IT OFF
Classic, , can u imagine living off of one hit. This would be the one.
Awesome. One of the best classic tunes of all time. I don't know why but though the song is from 1984, I first heard the song in 1989 because it was getting played a lot becoming popular. Hail Strafe.
One of the greatest club bangers ever!
This song is just fking bomb, brings back a lot of memories, thanx for sharing! Cheers
Oct/1984 for me, just outside of Fort Lee VA, at a club just inside Petersburg, VA.... rocked this song til I couldn't dance anymore :-D
@Thrillcekr Strafes SET IT OFF is an underground phenomenon still flying below the radar of the GWB Committee. Being on a small, independent label is the difference. Many early uses were unauthorized; with litigation still pending. It is the most sampled tune of all time. Thanks 4 the comment!
I used to tear it up on the dance floor to this! Whenever it came on, I would stop what I was doing and run to the dance floor lol. This is my jam, good memories. 👍🏼😎
Thank 2k15 for bring me here. Never heard the whole song till I played the game. Damn this is a great ass beat. 80's baby grew up in the 90's.
This sing had everybody on the dance floor
I love this song so much.

This song gets you in the groove making me want to get on the dance Floor
Going to the club's on Sat night's to dance to this and then the following night seeing Alice in Chains play.
I miss the 90s. It was a plethora of delights.
Major favorite in a lot of "gentlemen's clubs" in the late 80s and early 90s
@@ukrainiansniper5916 I don't know so much about the gentlemen clubs but it sure was at the house clubs.
So much diverse music we could mix in x yes NYC 90S x Brit grl
@Kevin McGinn That's exactly right Kevin. That's why I called this a "plethora of delights"...So many genres with brilliant sound.
Big city vibes. Back when clubs had live performances. Venue's were dope. Music was prolific!
S/o to all my AKA's that stop what their doing when this song comes on
u mean the cerority Alpha kapa Alpha
+D Brinson *sorority and yes Alpha Kappa Alpha. The first black sorority
my moms one
💕💚
That's right Sister! 06& 80!
No DJ worth his salt would dare work a party without having this song somewhere in his crates. If he left it at home, he'd get back in his car and GET IT. If all else fails at the party, break this out and you have eight minutes to get your shit together.
There's no probably; this is the greatest, most sampled, most emulated dance track in history. Every 'artist' who sampled this and didn't pay up should still be breaking out checks to Strafe for this....
Facts
This song right here get you in the groove so start getting on the dance floor
I rocked this song in my very first space shuttle.
Once this starts playing blacks folks stop what they are doing and start doing the electric slide. LoL At least that's how it was for us in the early 90's.
Hell yeah but we called it the bus stop
850 LBP That's what we called it down in Ga. too but every time I say the bus stop people look at me like what the hell is he talking about. LoL
man I remember those days....it was either this or Mike Jackson....
Yeah your right
I'm just a dumbass white boy who knows wirebending and tech, but that's also immensely offensive. And I ran roadie for One Drop. Bitch.
I love this song. I listened to it all the time on Jock Jams tape. I'm gonna have to get another one.
Brings back some memories from my clubbing days. Going to discos in Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.
Oh, guys.... can we stop the bickering... pause for a moment and remember when this song came out. IT BROUGHT TOGETHER!!! GAWD, I miss the dancefloors of days gone by... now it's all a pissing contest. I DO hope that Strafe get every last penny that's owed them from all the illegal sampling. They are freaking classic! HardSoulRecordings, thanks so much for posting with the amazing photos. I'm soooooo heartsick for this time of utterly unique musical time...
I don't think people will understand how this song only ever snuck in on live mixes on the radio at night. This is as smooth as silk.
They used to play this at the club back home and the crowd would go crazy. Time to do the bus stop! Oh the memories.
Ain't nothing better like the 90s
Love this song - brings back good memories.
Like what ? In 2023

This song reminds me of The Fun House in the mid eighties even though I only been there once. This was considered a Fun House song.
I can't believe all these years I thought this was recorded by RJ's Lastest Arrival!! Set It Off was appropriately titled--genuis track!!
OMG! I was like 10 years old when this first came out....me n my boyz used to dance on subway platforms to this shit!!! oh man, cardboard mats, addidas with the FAT laces,Kangols, skateboards, big fake gold chainS! LOL old school NYC baby!

Timeless...This is one of the base of MUSIC
My aunt used to tell me a story about how she used to tear up the clubs when she was younger and she refused to go out on the dance floor until the DJ played this song.
Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority members tear the floor up when this come on.
I see lol. Their video sent me here. Now I gotta see them line dancing every time I hear this song...
one of coolest most rememiscent tracks for those born in 1971 who can truly appreciate great physcodelic funk an sole.
Day Pena no fair to just say 1971 lol. I came five years later 1976 and love psychedelic funk and disco.
