    As somebody like me.that grew up on the streets, Duterte was not exaggerating when he said that almost every streets in the Philippines are infested with drugs. All classes, all ages, are affected or being involved with drugs, I've seen them myself, I've seen people been killed, arrested, families been destroyed because of drugs, not from shabu alone, but also from other kind of drugs. Before Duterte, I use to see people selling drugs off the streets during the night, even on broad daylight, but since Duterte seated, the street value of drugs skyrocketed and also became very risky to sell

    I am from Mindanao. I was born, raised, and currently reside in Davao City. I may not have experienced the old Davao, but I can always hear my elders talking about how the former Davao City Mayor turned things around. I really looked up to him, especially when he became the President of the Philippines. During his term, I was able to hold my head high and be a proud Filipino wherever I went.
    This war on drugs may be such a gruesome sight for some, but it has changed our country; people are not afraid of walking alone in the wee hours; the crime rate dropped by 73.7% in the first five years of the former PRRD's term. Just like what he says, "Your concern is human rights. My concern is human life." People tend to look at the bloodshed. Why don't you look at the millions who feel safe and protected under his governance?

      It becomes problematic when students and the 'intelligentsia' are framed for crimes which they did not commit and are indiscriminately killed, look at the case of Kian Delos Santos for example.
      Moreover, it's also problematic when students, journalists, and other credible people alike are targeted with death threats for exposing the corruption and abuse of power present in the administration.
      Imagine living in a state where authoritarian "peace" is present but socioeconomic prosperity and social justice is absent due to the administration targeting and killing off the people responsible for improving the state of our economy and in upholding justice and social equitability within the country.
      Nonetheless, I do agree that the previous administration was effective in decreasing the rate of petty crimes and substance abuse among the general population; however, it failed to combat and erradicate the systemic problem of corruption, organized crime, and inadeqaute social welfare services which made the aforementioned petty crimes and drug abuse possible in the first place.

    Indonesia had something like this back in the 80s. Look up "Petrus Killings". Petrus is a portmanteau for "Penembak Misterius" ("Mysterious Shooter"). Allegedly it was masterminded by the military. An extrajudicial killing activity to eradicate gangs and their members. Their methods were...."cartel like". There's a story of a local gang leader who heard knocks on his door late at night, in front of his door was a sticky rice sack, opened it and there was a head of a rival gang leader with a note that said "leave town, else it's your turn next".
    My guess is these gang members killed wouldn't comply so they had to be told who's boss. That one gang leader perhaps had a family member in the higher-ups so he was let go. It worked. After that the government was the biggest gang out there. Everybody else had to pay tribute.

    The Drug Problem is not an exaggeration,it’s real how rampant it is on the streets.I reckon now it would be even worse with the rise of social media. Closer to it with just one chat away.
    I was even shocked that my younger brother’s classmates were using it.At my own College,a friend of mine admitted using it.
    I grew up listening to crimes perpetrated by using drugs. I was recently heartbroken when I learned a case of a child raped and killed by two teenagers close of age to the victim! They were just neighbors!
    If it is not rampant, how in the world two teenagers can afford and find it? We were not even allowed to have chemicals used in making drugs in our chemistry labs and two teenage boys of slums are two corners away from purchasing it?

    unfortunately for this video, it never accounted the number of victims of rape, massacres, robbery which are related to drug usage. before duterte presides as president, it is literally too rampant for street crimes that you might fear to walk outside during night. there are snatching of jewelries mostly earrings bracelets and watches, also wallets and mobile phones. and as soon as duterte made that iron fist, it drastically changed for the safety of majority of the population specially in the metro manila.
    Research more and sway on protecting De Lima, because she was the protector of drug kingpins, in which she was previous justice secretary yet on her time, the drug lab inside the national prison was well kept hidden on the public knowledge until duterte admin exposed such thing.
    Vice should determine the other face of the story instead of one sided blabbering of filipino "correspondents" who are leftist activists. these activists are the destabilizers and are power hungry, they are always active on negative propagandas. while the majority are silent not because of fear but satisfied with the govt actions. the trust rating of duterte will show how much he had done for the better of the country. also, look how this "correspondent/activist" created story interconnecting the new presidency, to throw mud and tag as evil, about the war on drugs, yet it is the authority of the police to apprehend drug supplies. 🤷

Even police officers were proven guilty for violating human rights laws, isn't that enough reason to raise a red flag that this propaganda is unjust and unlawful? You cannot say it went well if what you can only see is what you choose to see. Also the rehabilitation program offered by the government at that time has been proven to be inefficient as it lacked enough preparation leaving most of those who surrenderred to battle their addiction on their own. Professional rehabilitation was also only available for those who were privilaged enough. Filipinos have over romantisized killings because they think that it's alright since the targets are drug addicts, but forgets that these targets are people too. As a foreigner, I stayed in Philippine from time to time since 2015-2019, I can see a significant change in street safety. Before I need to be careful not to walk alone in some street of Makati, Quezon or Pasay, and have to be extra careful not to make a phone call on the street as one of my phone got snapped right on my face by a teenager before......Start from 2016, there are significant increase of police patrol on the street, slowly, I walk the street without any worry.
      Was smoking on the street one time in 2018, 2 quasi-policemen on a cycle stopped before me and asked me to stop smoking or I will face 5000 peso fine. I stopped smoking, they didn't fine me, instead, they remind me to take the cigarette butt with me and throw it in the bin, they left after wathing me threw the cigarette in a bin.
      Another true story was, I hired a grab taxi sometime on 2017, the driver speaks fluent English with American accent and looks quite strong. So I started a conversation with him asking him whether he lived in the US. The told me that he hadto come home to take care of his dad who got cancer, his brother, his sister in-law and his sister were on drug and lost the ability to work. So he have to gave up his US marine corp admission to return to the philippine to take care of his family. He is quite happy about the change and believe his siblings can come clean in rehab.
      I completely agree on the pros and cons comment regarding Duterte's policy. Same as any other policies, all of them has pros and cons as our society is complicated and filled with conflicting interests. The important thing is get things done.
      I didn't not see any shooting or open-street execution of drug dealers/users. I guess that's just a perk of being a foreigner in the Philippine. I feel pity for the innocent people who lost their lives due to the shooting. I also feel pity for the people who's lives ruined by drugs.
      Hopefully the new admin can keep the drug control policy, with less harsh punishment. But most importantly, make sure economy is developing and the benefit goes to normal people instead of a few big families. At the end of the day, If someone can find a job, make a living out of the decent job, no one would rather risk their life to sell/do drugs.

In fact, drugs here were sold like street food before, I have seen it myself. I've seen friends and neighbors who were hooked and were mentally affected due to this.
    If someone else other than Duterte won, I can't imagine what may had happened. Foreign media may have reported the Philippines as a country of crazy people or land of zombies.

    Why don't you visit other areas of the Philippines like Visayas and Mindanao and please try to, at least, dig in more to know how large the drug problem was/is in the Philippines before you jump into conclusions. Just weeks ago, many people were caught in the act of selling drugs here in our area.
    I have noticed that every time there's a victim of killing that is linked to drugs here in the Philippines, you put the blame to Duterte. We don't know how drug syndicates really work, so please let's give benefit of a doubt somehow.

    Wow vice, you guys really had to interview the most bias people you could ever get. I grew up in the streets of the Philippines in Mindanao specifically (21 years) before i migrated to the United States (now 30). The streets are covered with drugs and crime, and i am not exaggerating when i say that you can buy drugs outside of your home like its a common commodity. The guy that said "drugs isn't as rampant as the president thinks it is" is probably a person who lives in a gated community with a private vehicle that has never hit the streets; He even talked about how Pres. Duterte is from Mindanao like he's looking down on it, a very common thing where people from the North thinks Mindanao is inferior to them. Well, let me tell you this, Davao City (where Duterte was a Mayor) used to be the biggest Criminal city in the Philippines. Killings, drugs, kidnapping, etc. you name it. It used to be the "throwing of dead bodies town" before he was elected and swept everything and made it the SAFEST city in the Philippines, can you imagine? We support him because us middle aged and older people know the harsh reality of the Philippines, as we have been under so many "diplomatic" leaders before who only cared how they looked in the statistics for their political ambitions.
    This is the kind of leader we need, we need to bring the hammer not just soft slaps on the wrists, its proven to never work.
    Edit: Btw, he gave the cartels, drug lords, drug pushers and users 2 months to surrender/stop their operations and some chose their fate. An example of this would be the Ozamis City Mayor and his son, two of the biggest drug lords that remained in the Philippines during the drug war. They thought their political friends and connections could save them, they did not.

In general decriminalization and legalization (with education ofc) still works far better in the long run, especially if the government prepares and follows through well. portugal is a shining example of this, among others. It's just like with alcohol and cigarettes, or any substance really (and ofc there are many drugs with medical potential/usefulness).

But then you could also look at countries like Singapore who just straight up kills anyone with the smallest amounts of drugs, yet they don't have high amounts of drug addicts. You could also argue that decriminalizing drugs won't automatically solve everything as Portugal and Netherlands are still vastly different countries with different culture and values as the Philippines, so the same methods won't always mean the same outcome. No hate here, but these are just genuine concerns because I believe what works in one country won't always work in another.

    5:20 hey hey hey!! what is wrong being from mindanao? im not from mindanao myself but as a Filipino myself, your statement has something between the lines. what do you think of people from mindanao? barbaric? what a very good way of stereotyping. and about drugs? its that rampant before he came. you should be from a above average family or unfamiliar with the life in the slums and streets. before duterte came drug is so common and sold almost just like as common as cigarettes and alcohol. duterte was right about the drug issue. but i can say 6 years for him wasnt enough and drugs are still rampant in our country and those people who stayed low in the last 6 years have awaken again to spread their dark bussiness since they know the former president's term is gonna end soon. Marcos should continue duterte's campaign but he should also divide his focus to some issues too like education, health, economy, and military.

    • @JoBuGAMING
      @JoBuGAMING 2 роки тому

      drug is so rampant that it is the only possible way!! 6 years is a very short time for a president to make a change. and the president cannot run again for another presidential term after his term. he has only 6 years and he has a problem to solve that is so big and have been estabilished decades ago. he may have failed his campaign but he made a very big change. he was the man closest to or rather had the highest success over drug issues eventhough his campaign failed. if he resort to rehabs, the rehabs are so small and the patients would be i guess maybe 10 times than the max capacity the country could handle. if he build new rehabs then it would took him more time and rehab itself is a very long process that consumes a lot of time and yet the success rate of rehab is very low since there have been so many cases of rehab patients that after the "treatment" they just go back to doing drugs again.

    • @JoBuGAMING
      @JoBuGAMING 2 роки тому +5

      people of the Philippines often notices the mistakes but always disregard the success part. they always like to criticize but cant do a realistic solution. they always base on there theories where they criticize the dids but cant prove themselves to be better. if you think you can do better war on drugs then why run for presidency yourself and have the same campaign of war on drugs but on your preferred way. duterte may have failed, he didnt totally eradicated drugs but atleast he made a little of change and spark feared and knowledge to the public about drugs. Duterte made so may good projects outside of drugs like housing projects and he did it fast. if he fails, its not all because of him, some of the officer and the killers are just lazy to their job and just framed some innocent people. but its not a direct order to a specific person by the president himself. just like the late president marcos was called a dictator. he was bashed because of the martial law and the killings he didnt do himself. he may have been the one to command a martial law but he didnt command specifically who to kill. if his goons are the one who failed, its not directly his fault but he should be accountable too but not to the point that he should be solely taking the blame. he proclaimed martial law on purpose. the NPAS that time cannot be handle easily anymore. and about the human rights violation of those 2 president? how about the achievements they accomplished? gonna be taken for granted just because they made mistakes? or some of their profects failed? during martial law if you dont eanna end up dead then stay at home during curfew hours and they are no chances you will be killed. if you have been killed or captured then you should have disobeyed the law about curfew and you would be suspicious bcoz you broke a rule. its funny how the west barks about human rights violations when they themselves are one of the experts when it comes to eradicating human populations. west love to rule even for countries they dont own. west love to conquer places to sip their resources dry and leave them poor. west want other countries have civil and micro wars so they could sell military equipments for a living. america cant solve their drug problem so why bother the other countries? EU was the origin of conquesting other nations and violated human rights the most. why bother joining our problems here when you cannot solve your own and why bother accused as of things when you guys did it better before. those "Filipino" who worship the west just have colonialized mindset. Duterte was right all along about the west. that is why he remained neutral because he know you guys well and having you as "allies" benifits you while joining us in conflicts we should be out to. why join a faction that would make you have enemies too if you can stay neutral and befriend all. especially we as a country has no enough firepower to compete. why join a game you know you cant win, atleast not yet.
