The Mickey Ears pin I believe is the Dream Finder from the original Journey Into Imagination ride. You see his character a little throughout the parks but not much anymore. As for Figment going away, from what I have heard, Disney is making Figment the main mascot of EPCOT so there is no way he will go away.
You should get the Disney official pin book. it is definitely worth the fifty dollars. The book saved my life when I was on my Disney cruise and they had the official Disney pin trade time period. It was so overwhelming but I was able to stay organized with that book.
