I’ve had the d200, d700, and d810 in the past. Sold all three and swallowed the mirrorless pill, but didn’t fully like the taste. Re-bought all three dslrs in the last few years. A costly mistake that will not happen again. Long live the dslr!
Bought recently a pristine one for 300 eur, only 4300 shots, like new. I had one back in 2010, sold in 2014. I've always missed that camera and now I'm happy as never before even thou I use a Z8 and a D850 for work
Love how people deride the 12mp sensor and then down sample everything to view on a 4K screen or even worse share on social media. I’ve had the D700 from new, shot many a wedding or a portrait on it and printed out to 30x40 off that 12 mp sensor, and although I mainly use Fuji’s these days even on a 12x18 print you can’t tell what came from the 12mp sensor and what came from the 40mp sensor. It’s biggest downside is it’s weight. It’s a beast of a camera which is probably why it’s still rocking 14 years on from its release. It’s one camera I’ll never sell.
Yeah.. My dad gave me a D40.. However I almost always used my ultra compact pocket cameras, so I sold it years later. I sold it with maybe 200 or 300 shots. Now I own 2 D40s and I am very happy.
i'm happy i've kept my D700, D200 and D2H. Those cameras changed the game at their time... So sad to see those camera are so cheap now ! (but good for those on a budget)
I had this with the Canon 5D mark 1. I sold it when I got a Leica (after dreaming about Leicas for decades). But after a while I started to really miss the 5D. A year after selling it, I contacted the person I sold it to and asked if he was still using it. He wasn't and let me buy it back :-)
Yes, and I'll give you a very valuable secret: in case you think you might need a 24MP camera, you have one, it's your D700. I realized that I can upscale the footage in Resolve 19 using the 2x and suddenly I have the color and the rendition and the texture of the D700 with the resolution of a 24MP. Try it, you won't be disappointed. I usually don't need to upscale, since I dont' print, but for those who do, that's it! Import photo from Rawtherapy in 16 bit PNG, make sure you enter the timeline resolution as 8552 x 5672, in the EDIT mode right click your photo and select clip attribute, select 2x. in the deliver tab select SINGLE CLIP, then move down and make sure that you select 0 for compression and voila. I've scrutinized my photos, it's really as if it had been shot with a cam with twice the rez.
Cool - Congrats on being reunited. 👍 It may be low spec, but its still way enough for most things, and it's output has a special look, something you will know about! As it happens, I just *nearly* sold my D700. It's ratty, but fully functional, and I only have the one Nikkor lens left - a 55mm Micro Nikkor now. I wouldn't have got much for the D700 it, so, I saw sense .. I've kept. it. Plus it saves subbing for a gym membership every time I lift it ;) D700 and the Micro Nikkor will be my close-up specialty combo.
Oh boy... I still shoot weddings with it :))) along with other newer cameras, of course, but surprisingly, I shoot a lot more shots with the D700 than with the other cameras. Somehow, I always choose this camera over the others, because of the look of the photos. I have the impression that the colors and character of D700 are very much reminiscent of photos taken by Steve McCurry. And I mean the raw files!
I bought my D700 into 2010, when it was 2 years onto the market. Then, a few weeks ago, i've bought a 2nd copy, mint-like, with 54k clicks, for a very good price, i couldn't resist.
I’ve just bought back a D700. Having bought other FX DSLRs and a Z camera none of the images came close to the D700’s. I’ve never needed more than the 12.1mp that it gives but I have run some images through Topaz Gigapixel AI and it retains the same image quality as the original file but with more detail for cropping should I wish to.
I’ve been using a Nikon D50 for a little over a week now, it’s my Nana’s and I’m a Canon and Fujifilm shooter. I love the 6.1 mp ccd censor. I’m thinking about getting the Nikon D700 or newer with better quality glass.
no shame there...I still use my D50 and D80 (both purchased new way-back-when). Market value on these dropped so much over time it didn't make sense to sell them, so I've kept 'em and shoot them occasionally and they're good fun. The D700 is certainly an upgrade as long as there isn't a media-induced inflation frenzy underway (the 800 series are getting mighty affordable too - "value" seems to be determined more now by online hype than anything).
The Nikon cameras at that time seemed to be built to last. They are great craftsmanship. But with the massive lenses they are now too heavy for me. But how I miss the mirror viewfinder.
Yesterday, I got (back) a D800. I sold one on 2018 then I regretted ever since. I won't make the same mistake again. I do own a D700 as well, they are special. Not planning to ever sell my cameras again.
Funny you mention that, Wilfred. I am a Nikon and Leica guy who is very intrigued by the M8 Kodak sensor (and the pics it generates). But I am concerned about maintenance issues on the M8, so I just bought my first D200 to see if it would give a similar look. Do you mind sharing your experience since you now have both? I am still so close to pulling the trigger on the M8. It feels like it would fill a space between my Q2 and modern M bodies. All the best!
@@dldldldldldl I should have mentioned that I’m on my forth because I keep thinking I need something different. But I keep coming back to Ricoh. I’ve had all models over the last 14 years. Including the GXR. I’ve never had issues with build quality. I’ve sent two away for dust. A GRD1V and the original apsc GR. I’ve used them in all conditions including windswept beaches. But only with filter adapter and filter. To be honest I’ve only ever owned one camera I’ve not been happy about with build quality. The OM System OM5. And that was loose fitting rubber doors over the ports.
Stabilized: Zooms: Sigma 24-105mm f4 (ART) and 70-200mm f2.8 (Contemporary) Primes: Tamron 35mm f1.8 and 45mm f.1.8 Non-Stabilized: Zoom: Tokina 16-28mm (I hear the Tamron 15-30mm zoom is excellent too) Primes: Voigtlander and Nikon misc (I use/like the 20mm g-series, 28mm f2.8 AI-s, 50mm f1.4D, 85mm f2 AI-s, and especially love the 105mm f2.5 and 135mm f2.8 AI-s)
i found a Nikon D700 in a thrift shop (used item shop) and i dont have that big idea when it comes to nikon cameras but i did use some canon cameras before is it still worth it to buy?
In my film days yes I did, one for mono one for colour! and I also had a old body for a spare! nowadays its just one carry about body and one lens which will stay with me until I am done! I still have a couple of old body's as back ups! (just in case)
I’ve had the d200, d700, and d810 in the past. Sold all three and swallowed the mirrorless pill, but didn’t fully like the taste. Re-bought all three dslrs in the last few years. A costly mistake that will not happen again. Long live the dslr!
Hear! Well done. I stick to my D750 and D7200 as long as I can and I probably will check out a D700 too.
Loved my D810 too, I might have to rebuy it again soon.
Bought recently a pristine one for 300 eur, only 4300 shots, like new. I had one back in 2010, sold in 2014. I've always missed that camera and now I'm happy as never before even thou I use a Z8 and a D850 for work

Yes the D700 weights a ton but it's worth it.
I did that with that with a D850. Happy to have it again. I’ll never let it go.
The D850 is a fab camera.
Yeah.. My dad gave me a D40.. However I almost always used my ultra compact pocket cameras, so I sold it years later. I sold it with maybe 200 or 300 shots.

Totally agree with you. I bought my D700 in 2010 and still using it. I have no intention of buying another camera unless it gives up on me.
I still have mine today , probably the best Camera Nikon ever produced 👍👍
i'm happy i've kept my D700, D200 and D2H. Those cameras changed the game at their time... So sad to see those camera are so cheap now ! (but good for those on a budget)
Its great they are so cheap, it means everyone can get one.
My buy, sell and re buy is the Nikon D200... never letting this one go!
Never had a D200, why do you like it?
Same ! Had a D700 as well but the D200 ended up being the one i missed the most
I finally found a great D700 a few years ago and am never letting it go
I own 3. I watched for mint ones with low shutter counts. Great camera. Vintage cameras rock!
Yes, love old cameras.

That's a magical camera. I regret selling mine when I bought an 800e.
Rebuy it, you won't regret it.

Can't beat those colours and textures.
Yup me too - I’ve bought and sold various D700s several times. LOL 🤣

yea, they are too tempting.

Yes they are heavy but they feel so good in the hand.

I feel your pain, I've done that so many times. It's GAS that causes me to sell cameras, I really must learn.
Yes, the Leica M8, but most recently I put in an order for a Nikon D200.
Funny you mention that, Wilfred. I am a Nikon and Leica guy who is very intrigued by the M8 Kodak sensor (and the pics it generates). I have five Nikon DSLR fx bodies with more lenses than I need. I bought a d700 as new recently for £315 with 957 shots on it.
Did this with the D7000. I have the 700 also and yet to gel with it, but I reckon I will if I use it more.
It produces great tones
I just got one for £300 with only 5k shutter clicks!
Yes. Ricoh GR’s. Original apsc GR 3 times and now I’m on my forth GRiii
Build quality is pretty bad on the GRs

what are your favorite lenses for D700 guys? I currently just use Tamron 70-300, it gives really nice pics, the distortion might be bad though.
Stabilized:
Zooms: Sigma 24-105mm f4 (ART) and 70-200mm f2.8 (Contemporary)
Primes: Tamron 35mm f1.8 and 45mm f.1.8
Non-Stabilized:
Zoom: Tokina 16-28mm (I hear the Tamron 15-30mm zoom is excellent too)
Primes: Voigtlander and Nikon misc (I use/like the 20mm g-series, 28mm f2.8 AI-s, 50mm f1.4D, 85mm f2 AI-s, and especially love the 105mm f2.5 and 135mm f2.8 AI-s)

That is why I never sell cameras.
I have a d300 and d5200 much prefer shooting with my d300 only half the megapixel. But more than good enough
D300 is my choice, too, with a lot of Nikkor manual focus lenses & nothing else;-))
