I have a Hoveround (which is short from front to back like this) and had to load my groceries in a large cloth bag and prop it on my footrest today. I could barely do it and it's very exhausting to say the least. This segway doesn't even have that much space in the front on which to prop something. I guess the design could be modified to build in a compartment beneath the seat for storage/carrying. That would make the seat taller but it might work.
Im a disabled wheelchair user and i am upset because my chair will get stuck on sand and stuff this would give people in wheelchairs a better outdoor experience than normal
You are 100% right. A Segway can safely go off-road and the Sui Generis Seat makes the Segway use possible for people with mobility limitations. We believe that in our world and at the present time, the word "limitations" has a clear answer. Gear! We are very happy to be able to create this kind of gear. Stay tuned. We are in Greece and we have plenty of beaches. The "ultimate beach and swimming assistance wheelchair" is on its way in our new workshop. Thank you for your comment.
When will we see a price that isn't set to what the market will pay? By accountants /bloodsuckers I didn't ask to lose mobility, I can't work, so not able to pay the asking price. so do I have to ask for "crowdfunding" to be able to move on uneven terrain? Can we not work for the common good sometimes? Rather than what we have in our culture today.... just saying
This is so true ,i can´t belive the prices set on these seats ,regarding what brand of seat you are looking for they are sooo overprized. The price for the Segway itself i can except but asking the same money for the seat is a joke ,and as you said "bloodsuckers" are an understatement.I am now halfway through a build/conversion to a wheelchair-segway ,hopefully ready this summer making it for a friend ,and far away from the cost of these seats........feel sorry for you, as you may never will able to try this out (mainly because of human greed).
Great for Paras, Not much good for Quads, Though. I have to agree with other posters on Day to Day living, carrying groceries. There are Many who are not ABLE to balance their upper body enough to run the Segway. GREAT for MANY folks < THAT can AFFORD it.
+C Smith Thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right. We are constantly developing this product to cover the needs of as many people as possible. Price is something that can be lower. We are working on it. Very soon we will run our first crowdfunding campaign that will (hopefully) allow us to reduce the price on mass production. Stay tuned!
This would be so much cheaper to buy and modify than they way too expensive OGO Wheelchair that does the same thing. Also this method you could maintain it through the future and get it serviced by segway dealers unlike having to trust than an unknown company like OGO will stick around to service that wheelchair.
Ok NM.. these modifications are ridiculous and cost even more than the OGO.. How can anyone rationalize the cost of those on Living Spinal. Can't someone just buy a full size segway and the seatcage and mod together themselves or with a mechanic, for way way less. Anything over 10K sounds like a huge exploitation of disabled people for greed.
+Aindre Reece-Sheerin The website is working and currently being updated but the eshop will not be taking orders until November 20. If you would like to be among the first on the waiting list or ask any questions about our products, please email sales@suigenerisseat.com. Thank you for your interest!
just try and use at a Disney park and they wont let you in even tho according the U.S. Dept of transportation they are legal and must be allowed on all "public" transportation.
wolfman011000 Any connection on the segway such as trolley or trailer is highly affecting the braking procedure. In a few words if you connect a shopping trolley on a segway, the braking distance will be much longer and safety issues will occur. So dear friend the ansuer is no (Unfortunatelly). There is not such an option and we do not recomend it. Remember that segways are much diferent than any other transportation device so they have their limitations as well as many advandages.Thank you.
+George S That is a big problem for disabled people. Any vehicle so compact, although very maneuverable in tight spaces is going to be very limited in versatility if a person wants to be able to carry things independently. If you want to transport a whole week's worth of groceries you won't be able to with such a device. That's something that really needs to be worked on in the design.
+IAMGiftbearer You are absolutelly right my friend. Segway does also have a weight limitation on 117 kg. This includes the weight of the seat (19-23 kg depends on model) , the rider and any goods that can be carried. the only safe solution for carring things on the segway, using the Sui Generis Seat is a backpack attached on the seats back. Thank you for your comment
+IAMGiftbearer i doubt any paraplegic would be able to carry a weeks worth of shopping in any chair , they are not made for that , unless its a traditional 4 wheeled power chair dragging a wheeled trolly behind it , these segway adaptions are more for getting out and about and seeing/visiting areas that you may not be able to when pushing a chair manually
I wonder whether it is suitable for people with stiff knee joints who require a little more leg room. Perhaps Segway should developed a seated Segway for people who cannot stand or walk for long period of time. That woud be great!
Danny Martinez We don't have a dealer in the USA yet. However, you can purchase the Sui Generis Seat from our on-line store www.suigenerisseat.com . It will be delivered to your door and shipping to USA is completely free.
Danny Martinez As far as I know, Segways are made in USA and their use is legal in NY. The Sui Generis Seat is just an add-on that allows the use of a Segway PT in a seated position. It is not a medical device nor a mobility wheelchair. It is just a leisure vehicle for all, including people with limited moblity. So I don't see any reason why it is not legal. However, if in doubt, please consult the local authorities. The reason you haven't seen any in NYC is because we are new in the market (3 months and counting!) and have not made any sales to NYC yet. If you have additional questions Danny, please contact Sales@SuiGenerisSeat.com. We'll be happy to hear from you!
If this is just the seat adaption, and not including the Segway, How do you justify the prices on your website. Ridiculous amount of money for what it is.
Please show me a Segway seat that is made solely of stainless steel, with glider and suspension, fail safe with out the need of charging for a lower price than the Sui Generis seat. We know that the price is high and the reason is our construction model. This is about to change. We are about to launch a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo.com. We aim to raise the funds for bringing the Sui Generis seat in mass production and significantly reduce its price by over 1200$. During the campaign you will be able to purchase the seat with an extremely low cost. Stay tuned.

I am going to Greece for 2 and a half weeks this summer, and would love to try this out.
You are welcome Julielle! Please do not hesitate to contact us so we can arrange a test drive :-)

Is there an adapter or connector for use with a disabled shopping trolley that can connected to normal wheel chairs ?
