I started getting mine at 45 and have to get them every five years because of my family history. I have a wife and four kids to look after. My grandfather had colon cancer at 51 but they caught it early and he almost made it to 100. My father in law also had colon cancer but they caught it early and he’s still here kicking it with the grandkids. I’d be a dxmn fool to not follow their lead and not do the same. All this talk of being alphabetical if you get one is some kind of sick hxmxphobia. It’s akin to when kids feel like they’re hurting YOU by refusing to eat…drinking poison and expecting the person they’re mad at to suffer. Clowning a procedure expecting others to feel bad about it when it’s YOU who will eventually feel a lot more than bad(feeling death). It’s an immature mindset.
I'm 50 and just got mine done. I knocked out while the nurse was talking to me. Next thing I knew was them saying everything looks good and see you in 10 years. It took longer to prep for the procedure than the actual procedure.
Same for me, I recently had my done and no polyps. The doctor said I will see you in 10 years. And you're right, the prep is longer than the actual procedure.
This is the kind of thing that we need black men to be posting about in social media. Not that red pill, incel, anti-black woman nonsense.
We can do both as both topics are vital to the long term health of black men.
Maybe encourage women to do better, the root of the problem, rather than direct ALL the accountability at men. Thank you for your concern though.

I’m a black woman and from I understand about my brothers, it’s not because they are worried about getting their butts tampered with, they are worried about the doctors actually taking their health concerns seriously. Black people as a collective worry about going to the doctor because no one takes our concerns seriously. That’s what the concern is, has nothing to do with anything else.

Aries is 100% correct. Thats a major reason why many black men don’t get colonoscopies. I just got mine at 45 last year. Where they removed 2 polyps. They put me to sleep and it was over in an hour
It's a difference between a prostate exam and a colonoscopy. But he's not lying. It's men in general. I have heard black,brown,yellow and white say some dumb shit for not getting a prostate exam done.

I've had one done and my issue wasn't that I thought it was gay, considering is a very well known medical procedure and makes absolute sense that they'd check your colon from the back and not from the front, but because I don't personally like the idea of people sticking anything near the exit. I see that as a one way street, so they had to put me to sleep to go through with it. Luckily my young age made it so that I didn't need to convince them. they mostly keep you awake if you're like 50 and older. I kind of think that's a cop out for most black men. I think most black men won't do it partially because, why would you be ok with someone sticking anything down any holes in your body while you were awake but also because black men don't trust the US medical system (for very good reason). I think if they offered colonoscopies under anesthesia more often, more black men would be ok with it.
I see my primary physician twice a year and my Urologist once a year and had started getting a colonoscopy at 50! No problems health wise thus far at 71 so men and women of color, take care of yourselves and your health!!!
I literally just had my first colonoscopy Monday. I'm 44. My Grandmother passed away from colon cancer when I was 7 or 8 years old. I had one polyp removed.
I don't know if men are afraid to have it done because of homophobia but just go get it done.

I think in general men don’t go to the doctor as often as women do. The women in their lives care more about their health than they do. If they have a Mom, wife, girlfriend or daughter they schedule and book all their screenings and appointments for them. I think it’s a man thing, not necessarily a Black man thing.

Prostate exams and colonoscopies are a bit more intrusive and humiliating than just routine physicals, though. I understand what Aries is saying. A lot of people I know would rather do blood work and/or stool samples than to have a finger or scope inserted up their anus/rectum.

Nothing like seeing your colon clean & that feeling being in good health afterwards. Especially if you have a family that wants you around & loves you

My grandfather died from colon cancer, so did booth of his brothers. One passed in his 50s. I've without any exaggeration been trying to get my uncle to get it done for years. He literally said "me nah fassi". Homophobia stopping us for caring for us is real.

It’s 2024, they have Non-Invasive Colonoscopy now. It’s like a CT Scan, but for Polyps / Colon Cancer. It takes 10 to 15 minutes and does not require the use of anesthesia.
They still do a small insert, to put air in. And If they find something, you will need a regular colonoscopy though to remove it.
