I guess once you've changed location and stay there for a period of time, you sort of get used to it. Won't necessarily feel at home though....

If you are well located within walking distance to the centre it is not that expensive, but it isn't cheap either.
Tourism + Airbnb made the rents to go up in Lisbon.
But it's more or less the same in other capitals in the EU.

What's the average cost for an apartment there per month? €1200?
Yes I agree it is quite alot! Does add up. Portugal is more expensive than I expected. From what I've seen, the average cost of a T1 ( 1 bedroom) apartment for example in Lisbon is about 850-900 euros.
