I grew up in milwaukee and lived there for the first 33 years of my life. I've since moved away and after spending 10 years in Chicago, I am now out in California. This video was like a warm hug , and really made me remember and miss "home". Also I had somehow forgotten about the gas building with the flame on top, and how it changed color based on the weather! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! :)
Thank you for sharing that and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, that was my first time visiting Milwaukee, went back again in 2016 with a better camera ;)
This brought a few old feelings back. Thanks. I left for the USAF as soon as I graduated high school, and witnessed a lot of tragedy and sadness. I lost my way. I wish I could get back. All my people died of old age now. I miss you all. My people.
I really dig this video a lot. I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin, born and bred, but I moved out west a long time ago, about 15 years ago. I still have these dreams at night... I'm Dreaming I'm driving on the freeway, going around and around and around. 😉 I remember all the ramps and all of the signs and I'll just drive.. I'll go all the way around into downtown and then go South toward the airport and then go West toward Hales Corners and then go North toward the zoo in Wauwatosa then come around again back to downtown. LOL. I actually really really like this video. Thank you.
I live in Milwaukee and yes, traveling westbound I-794 over the Hoan is a great view. Nothing beats it on a warm summer night especially on a motorcycle.
Great shot of the city at 5:50. The Zoo Interchange has been torn down and completely rebuilt, the Hoan bridge has been repaved, there are new skyscrapers downtown, the Bradley Center was torn down and replaced by the Fiserv Forum. Come back in late June/early July and do another one then go to Summerfest (World's Largest Music Festival).
Freewayjim Thank you so much for this fantastic view of Milwaukee (My home city) You captured it in a glorious way; that it is deserving to be represented in. Milwaukee if far larger and beautiful than a lot of people know, realize or give it credit for! Thank you for taking the time to show this side of "Chicago's little brother" :D
The Arched Hoan Bridge is lit up at nite now, it's beauriful. A new skyscraper by lake. Groundbreaking for 44 story bldg being in Jan 2021 along lake front. And maybe a 50 Story bldg in the future??
Coming from Pittsburgh, which has in my humble opinion the best way to enter an American City (Parkway West Inbound (376 E) through the Fort Pitt Tunnel) I must agree that driving on 794 W does rival it for skyline awesomeness! Great job as always!
Great old vid. Lots of building going on Downtown since then. Funny how that "First Wisconsin" building still sticks out no matter where you are, even in Tosa. Not that tall of a building, but it's strategically located.
There is a bit of a downtown along the lakeshore building boom going on in Milwaukee. Northwest Mutual just topped out a 550 foot tower just NE of the US Bank tower and a new tower is in the demo stage of being built SE of the US Bank tower that will stand a little over 500 feet tall. And there is a rumor that an over 700+ foot tall tower being built next to I-794 SW of the US Bank tower. Lots of building up in the downtown area of Milwaukee
I live in NYC now but I was sad to leave seeing Milwaukee growing so much and how downtown and the lakefront looking so beautiful. I hear more and more buildings are going up downtown.
Oh yeah I love milwaukee ! ... that remind me alot of things when I've been there in summer 2010 ... sincerely thanks for the ride ! ;) ... I loved that night view on downtown too.
My mom and I wanted to travel to Milwaukee last year but we decided to stay home, maybe next year or 2016 we be able visit there sooner than you think.
Check out the absolutely great ethnic fests on the Lakefront!!! Best ever in the Great Lakes region. People are very friendly and helpful. Lived here my entire life. Got a flat tire in the 'hood last year during work. Everybody wanted to help. Worst area of Milwaukee, but so many nice people. Yep, I do CC, but never had to use it.
I'm about 98% certain I'll pass through the Marquette Interchange on my way to Middleton (west of Madison) and National Mustard Day tomorrow morning. The Cream City is definitely a favorite of mine, only this trip, I'll be merely passing through.
Look it up! Many times a movie will be "set" in one city but parts are filmed in another. See SALT, set in wash DC but the early chase scene was filmed on the Circle Stack in Albany, NY.
@colinstu: I just did some research, and didn't know the Park Freeway ever existed. From browsing Google Streetview, it looks like the land immediately adjacent to the newly landscaped boulevard is just ripe for development.
Your Milwaukee videos are really cool, but I wish you would have showed the lakefront, the art museum (which is extraordinary architecture) and more of the attractions like the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Grand Avenue Mall.
Why don't you use the Yearly Maps on your newer Videos anymore? Like for Example at 0:20, you have the Map for Milwaukee in 1964, and then at 0:27, you have the 1973 Map, and so on. I've Always liked these.
Thank you, and that's a good question. The reason I stopped using them is that some people complained that it took too long to get to the video that way, more people than not did not care about the old maps and I get it so I made the decision accordingly. I sneak them into the video if I feel it's needed or fits.
Good to see Milwaukee done by freewayjim. Looks like the hoan is getting some work done. I remember the collapse quite well it wasn't nearly as bad as the 35W bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis. Do you have any plans to go there sometime?
"The original ramp stubs were used in the Blues Brothers movie." Huh??? I thought they were used in the city of Chicago. That's where the film takes place after all. I'm shocked. Oh well.
Fun video, man. I'm curious. Wasn't there talks of tearing down I-794? Or am I thinking of a completely different route in the city? After taking a real close look of the areas that I-794 separates in half, I'd say just leave the freeway in place. Great views of that Milwaukee skyline along I-794, too. I'm really looking forward to seeing your "360 degree" tour of the Marquette Interchange. Probably one of my top 2 or 3 most anticipated videos on UA-cam for 2011!
@RianAlive Thank you! I can only point out so many things in a video but fear not! I have two more videos that go by U.S. Cellular field and I will mention the Sox :)
I took them off, it would have taken way too much time to photoshop each sign around the tab, plus I did not like the open arrea of sky that would be left where the tab is and the rest of the sign is below it so I exercised "creative control", lol. I noted the exit number in the text.
Freewayjim I think you should flim the Hoan bridge in Milwaukee in 2018. It looks so much better. In my opinion it look't like an old mistreated heap of junk now it looks like it got the treatment it deserved
its actually a very common problem in the rustbelt cities. look at videos of Chicago, Detroit, Columbus, Cleveland, The Pitts, or hell, even Buffalo and you'll see what i mean
Wisconsin has some awesome road construction, wish I could say the same for Illinois. Illinois has 13 million people, ranked 3rd in miles of interstates (2100mi) and yet has NO four level stack in the entire state. Chicago may be a better city than Milwaukee, but Wisconsin is definitely a far better state than Illinois.
Much more impressive skyline than I would have thought! Amazing! What a strange thing to use that SNL skit to create a song. Very odd. I dont think it was a good idea.lol.
Born and raised. Nothing compares to Milwaukee. What a pearl she is. A jewel on water. So thankful I grew up there.
Fabulous video! Milwaukie skyline is wonderful! The best tunes, best version of "Fever." Thanks!
Thank you!

Wow this video made the old north very attractive. Milwaukee is very pretty. And yes that bridge makes the view of the skyline amazing.
This brought a few old feelings back. Thanks.

Terrific video! Probably my favorite of yours.
I believe Milwaukee is America's most underrated city, and I love your choice of music here. Thanks!

Wisconsin cheese is the best in the state of Wisconsin! BTW Milwaukee is awesome when the sun sets♥♥♥♥:-) :-) :-)
Wisconsin certainly is "America's Dairyland"!

@@Freewayjim any clips of Cleveland, Ohio?

Just one word about this video...AWESOME!!!!!!!!
The part at the end reminds me a lot of I-5 going through Seattle. All the twists and turns, and it just overall looks similar. Cool! :)
Very good video. Multipal Powerlines at the beginning. Pretty nice bridge as well
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!

Going to Milwaukee this Summer . checking out your video to see what to expect
Amazing video, the Marquette Interchange looks impressive!!! Looking forward to that "360" video.
Thank you very much, I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
@FreewayBrent Thanks, yeah I was impressed with the I-794 skyline views, was not expecting that.

@MrSuperRileymoore That is I-75/85 south in Atlanta.
Atlanta!
@FreewayTitan Thanks, I like that song myself.
Now they're doing construction here, in Milwaukee. It's rough but easily something to get used to
Better get used to it, I'm pretty sure they will be working on freeways around the metro till 2021, then they'll no doubt be planning the next phase
Matt Hoffman They'll be done in 2018 though. I think.
@eluko79 Thanks, I was pleasantly surprised by it!
I usually find old road maps on ebay or in Antique shops.
@interstateruler Thank you!
Ive been there a couple times, i 2 agree that its a very underated city, oh well. nice vid!
@FreewayAndrew Thanks, working on it now :)
Cool! Thanks! :)

How often do you go to Milwaukee? Been there many times Brent?
Nice vid' ! Btw, what's the name of the music/set ?

Lama bell?
did you go by the Ball park in Milwaukee?
@tdubb505 Thanks!
Can I have the name of the song. Can you put the name of the song in the description
@mazdaman1982 when did you start doing this video thing ?

@Freewayjim lol , do you have any Canadian citys ?

People like to knock on the speed limits in Chicago but the ones in Milwaukee are just as low unless they changed them.
This video will probably show ferry that takes you Muskegon,MI
@colinstu Working on it now :)
@js30blackhawks2010: Milwaukee's skyline is still way better than Fresno's, lol.
