Glad interest in Golden Sun is going up a little bit because of smash rumors it seems all over, hopefully with some context people won't just think of the Isaac as "just another anime sword"
I love Golden Sun 1 & 2, but christ almighty Camelot needed an army of editors to cull the endless dialog which seems gleeful to say the same thing 5 times over before finally moving on. Damn good soundtrack though, that stuff is the best!
That dialogue was killing me, especially in the early sections. It kinda balances out toward the end, but then the final scenes happen and it comes back to destroy your attention span. The OST is great though, you got good taste my dude.
Is the dialogue as endless as Radiant Historia? I just started Golden Sun, and it doesn’t seem NEARLY as bad as Radiant historia. In that game, the characters would not shut up. They could have cut out half the dialogue and it would have said the same thing. I gave up after 18 hours, so about half way through. I was bored to death. But golden sun seems good so far.
I loved the video. Every part of it. From your take on the game, your comparisons to Beyond the Beyond, the humor, the great taste in characters, everything. You've got yourself a new fan.
You sir are in for a real treat when you get your hands on Golden Sun The Lost Age. More great music and they even bring back some of the old hits. More super bosses including the a super boss that some have listed (and rightfully so) as one of the top ten hardest in video game history, but it's so worth it if you can win. The final boss is also significantly harder than the Fusion Dragon and a riveting fight as it get harder as you fight. The story has some interesting twists. Thank you for you critique of the game.
This vid is GOLDEN son. you explained every detail from the wittiness and the core mechanics going to share this round from another English person to another thank you
Thanks mate, I have not played The Broken Seal since i was 14 (2001). My American friend had it and i did not put it down the whole time i was staying up there LOL.
Oh what a perfectly timed release for my twenty minute break at work. Yum! Edit: Just watched, great stuff. Interested to see what you think of TLA. Difficulty is higher, although the narrative is a bit more focused on the overall than the where you are now, but only a little bit. It’s also only optional in direction around the middle of the game, and has some optional dungeons towards the far end. You totally need to use the data send feature though! Please don’t miss that in your play through, it’s super neat stuff! Anyway. Looking forward to it!
260 characters... Here we go... *please fucking kill me* For reals though, I'm so pumped to see what they've got in store for me with The Lost Age. I AM PREPARED!
Woah. Someone having just finished the game for the first time making a video on it within the last 5 years?? I thought this game was buried or already replayed over a million times. Good to see people are actually still drawn in by it, and you had some neat insight on the design that i didn't even notice. TLA is fantastic, and even the third game does some neat shit but uh. TLA is fantastic. I'll be keeping an eye out for your thoughts on it
This is the thing about casp, puts the effort in and makes his content worth waiting for. Geniune and very few aussies I can appreciate for the entertainment provided. Good Job.
@@Caspicum your welcome casp. In my opinion as told on discord I still reckon you should give dnd warriors of the eternal sun a look you won't be disappointed, the music as well was developed by Frank kelpaci can't spell he did all the Command and Conquer games till red alert 2.
If you play and 100% the first game, when you start the second game make sure to transfer all your progress so later when your new team meets the old team, your old team will retain all their stuff from the first game. You got two ways to transfer, through passwords or through link cables. I usually just do th link cable transfer it, it's more convenience. My only two gripes about the second game is that your old team joins the game a bit late so by then it will be more like an afterthought, also you can't go back to all the locations in the first game even though some were still present in the second game.
A lot of people talking about GS recently. I hope it keeps picking up recognition enough for Nintendo/Camelot to decide to finally do something with it again.
I just started replaying Golden Sun, this time with the intent of finishing it and hopefully getting through the whole series. While I do so, I'm going to try and look up videos and articles saying why it's so great, or in some cases, just about Golden Sun in general, because they're surprisingly few-and-far between. :( That's pretty much how I found out about this video, and you've summed up how hard it is to find addition information on this series in general. If only it had the kind of cult following EarthBound does...
Straight up, I found a fair bit of info on Beyond the Beyond. The only thing I found on Golden Sun was the two interviews everyone already knows about, and das it. It's unfortunate. Hopefully we'll get some more dev interviews emerging in the future.
4:50 I didn't feel like the Sol Sanctum segment was "text-heavy" and "tedious" at all. It serves perfectly to re-introduce the antagonists AND their apparent leader Alex, and impose upon you the question of why a character (Felix) whom you thought dead, has now returned but is also helping the baddies. All while blending in some gameplay into it.
It was pretty bad, all you did was hop over rocks and occasionally get some text blurted at you. Great concept, they just made it really awkward and stilted. It's also weird that Felix shows up almost immediately after he 'dies', like barely even 30 minutes after.

+Casp You'll find yourself in a few years nostalgic of this game. Just wait and see.
I personally think Golden Sun is one of if not the best open world RPG game ever created. Other than the elder scrolls series and maybe the recent Final Fantasy XV, there really isn't anything else out there with that kind of experience. Which is kind of weird if you really think about it. It isn't even an original concept yet for some reason there aren't any more open world fantasy games being made anymore. I guess there's the Witcher series but even that doesn't really hit the right spot. I guess all I can do is just wait for the next Elder Scrolls.
That's the thing with humour. You try to make some people laugh, and you're going to piss off a bunch of others. I respect why they're pissed off, but I ain't changing any time soon. Thanks for the comment, my dude. Golden Sun is fantastic. I'm glad that it's such a unifying force for those who adore it!
To be honest, I don't remember the dialogue sequences in GS to be too bad, but that's likely because of the dialogue sequence in TLA when you're in Lemuria... it just goes on and on and on... :'(
To be honest, I still prefer TLA over GS1 despite the ridiculous amounts of dialogue. Jenna (and definitely not Sheba) are nowhere near as awesome as Ivan and Mia, but the gameplay and expanded content and world more than make up for it (in my opinion) ^^;
I think that the beginning tutorial and opening boss scene is meant to be annoying so you actually get pissed at them for doing the tedious task. it, for me, was used go actually not like the bad guys
You thought the game was easy? I played this when it came out I was like 7 or 8 and it was brutal hard for me XD not the puzzels but the battle system really took some time to get good with the djiin shuffling and in a lot of the harder fights the djin summonings actually saved me. I really think this game was a huge gem and it holds huge nostalgia for me... One of the best things was the battle arena if you just wanted to fight some enemys you could just load your old save file and battle away.
Still hoping for a Golden Sun remake on the switch or new 3ds or even a friging Golden Sun 4. I am still waiting for it to happen. and Camelot bether not make an other mario tennis game before they finish what they started.
I don't know if they could to justice with a remake. It would be rad to see the games combined into one though, make it like it was originally conceptualized.
I don't know about that. It's paced awfully. I think I got to chapter 3 or 4 or something where I was underground and just gave up. I also made the mistake of playing it on Hard, which is not balanced at all and needs some serious exploits and RNG luck to get around, so that could've contributed to the lack of enjoyment. By chapter 4, nothing major had happened though, and I just stopped playing. I've always wanted to go back and play it on Normal to see what I missed, as I've heard nothing but rave reviews, but then I remember the story and never end up doing it.
Oh dear, playing on Hard is rough, and I do agree, the first few chapters is rather uneventful because it's mainly set up. Chapter 4 is the final chapter, so I think you might be thinking of Chapter 3. If you have time, I highly recommend going back and playing on Normal, talk to all the NPCs and do every sidequest, and you will definitely enjoy yourself a lot more. The payoff is huge, the story is 8 (soon to be 9) games in so far and the story is still ongoing.
Thank you for pronouncing “Psynergy” correctly. So many people call it “sin-ergy” when it’s suppose to be “sye-nergy” For example how do you pronounce Psyduck or Psychic? Yeah that’s what I thought.
I think people assume it's a play on words. Like, it's Psychic energy, but I originally saw it as "Synergy" with a P at the front. Also synergy rolls off the tongue way better, I can see a lot of people preferring to say it like that for pure convenience/laziness. When in doubt, I always check the Japanese pronunciation because that's a lot more literal. It seems they only call it エナジー which is just "energy". GOOD ONE JAPAN.
I think my point about characterisation was a point that the entire game, big boys, NPCs, etc. all have a fairly unique feel to them, especially when compared to other JRPGs. Since you can read their minds for critical info, they were free to do whatever they wanted with the dialogue, and it's far more interesting than other games. The Mia bit was a joke tho fam. I mean, can a character be good if you can't even see their feet?
I actually wrote what I thought the sequels to dark dawn should be. here's a summary. the kids are transported to a world NOT with psynergy but with texts like the necronomicon that give them magic and different powers and there ways gonna be an epic quest to reunite this world with Weyard and two other worlds one that is Cyber punk esque and another with a major hold on Christian esque religion and in order for the world to be whole you needed the four aspects of knowledge alchemy, Religion, Science, and magic or something sorry its been a while since I had been on Reddit but it was an idea for at least 3 more games
second game is better as the world of Weyard opens up and you truly see the world building masterpiece that it is with all it's continents and locales feeling like real world places. hurry and finish it, am intrested to ehar your take on the second game. I prefer the sequels characters as well. full of mystery.
If you haven't played any other Etrian Odyssey games, they remade the first 2, and 3 is pretty great. I don't remember much about 4, but who does? Atlus also reskinned Etrian Odyssey with a SMT: Persona skin and named it "Persona Q". That's a neat title, so if you're into SMT, Persona Q is a brilliant addition to any backlog. Let me know how you go with 5 though! Glad you're digging it!
@@Caspicum Not sure if you are being serious here, but calling Isaac just "another sword user" is in my opinion seriously downplaying his potential. Any concept of Isaac as a Smash fighter, which includes the sword outside of jabs and tilts plus maybe the dash attack and aerials is a wasted opportunity in my book. At least all specials and Smash attacks should definitely based on the various Psynergies and possibly Djinn powers. For example, his down smash could be Briar growing thorns all around his feet to strike opponents. This would mean that Isaac would be even less of a sword user than Robin from Fire Emblem. And calling even Robin just another sword user is disingenious at best. (Though I do agree that Smash Bros has too many FE characters, but oh well.)
I think what he meant was that Isaac should be added in with intent of fully taking advantage of his roster of moves, rather than him just ending up as a FE character reskin. Isaac alone, if done right, could be way better than the endless stream of FE characters.
It's not Isaac's fault the game is oversaturated with swordsmen. He deserves his spot in the game regardless of how many characters are superficially similar to him or not.
The writing in this video is pretty damn crisp. I did a double-take when you said "So do a bunch of cardio, and you're golden, son!" and the "odd-looking colored folk" line was spot-on. Did a swell job.
Golden Sun is so good. I've spent a lot of time trying to determine whether it's my favorite game due to nostalgia or whether it is just that good. In the end, I think it has some problems, but it truly is amazing overall. And I might be a bit biased, but the music is fan-fucking-tastic and just might be the best soundtrack of any game ever made (assuming you include TLA). Sakuraba really knocked it out of the park; coming from someone who has some experience with GBA programming, it truly is impressive what he managed to do. Hopefully we get a 4 at some point. We can hope. Great video!
It's definitely got a strong OST, it's just a shame we only have it heavily compressed and garbage-sounding on the GBA's shitty sound chip. I would've loved to have heard it on any console with even a remotely good audio system. In terms of audio prowess, I think a lot of games vastly out-shine Golden Sun when it comes to direct OST comparisons, but video game soundtracks are less about the song at face value, and more about where it's used in the game, and how that connects to a scene. It's hard to be like "GRANDIA FUCKING BLOWS GOLDEN SUN THE FUCK OUT" because that's not how vidya music is designed. I do recommend listening to Grandia 1 and 2 OSTs if you haven't heard them before though, they're lovely. Legend of Dragoon got some bangers too.
Glad I checked this reply, because I was complaining about GBA compression ruining the OST, but you've gone and done it my ghost dude. you absolute mad man.
Thanks, glad you liked it. As for the ost, I think specific tracks (mainly the battle themes) stand out as incredible. However, I think the sequel is where the ost truly begins to shine (no pun intended). Tundaria Tower, Ankhol Ruins, Mars Lighthouse, and countless other town/dungeon themes will knock your socks off with his wonderful prog rock style. Looking forward to part 2!
Coupla things you cold've mentioned: - You can save ANYWHERE (not common in Jrpgs) - The ballin mini-games - You can set Djinns outside of battle so you can use your Summons immediately - Every character has their own inventory - The Battle Arena outside of the main game. In the second game I actually spent as much time there as I did in the actual story, combining specific item and djinn builds to see how far I could get. Anyway, glad you enjoyed this game. The Lost Age is often tied for my favorite game of all time alongside Chrono Trigger. Can't say the story gets much deeper but everything about the gameplay is definitely better whether it's puzzles, combat, exploration, super bosses and, more importantly, Djinn experimentation. Few games come close with their customization to be as fun as TLA. By giving you multi-colored Summons and class-changing items (as well as A LOT more Djinn), they encourage even the most class pure type people to give a shot to other builds.
I had originally planned to talk about rigging summon-spam before you get into battle, and also how I hate individual inventories, but I decided I had nothing overly important ot say about them, and cut it for time. I completely missed the Battle Arena though, what's this about?
In the games menu, its the last icon that appears. Click on it and you get to an arena where you fight random monsters you fought throughout the game including bosses.
Oh shit, I thought it was a multiplayer feature so I ignored it. They really should've made that accessible after you do the story chunks in Colosso, and given you in-game rewards for it. Do you get anything for it? Because there were games on the GBA that did similar, side-content outside of the main game, and it then gave you shit in the actual game. That was rad.
Its alson a mutliplayer thing. Unfortunately I dont think there are rewards. But IMO the thing is its own reward, sometimes I pick Golden Sun out of nostalgia but I dont want to play the actual game so the arena comes in just handy. I medle around with Djinn and configurations and wether i should set them or not, the battles are random so its a gamble wether you get a weak enemy or two super bosses in a row. I just think since both GS games are generally easy its really cool that there is another to test you skill to its absolute maximum possible
the one and only thing i really disliked about GS1 and 2 was the fact you could permanently miss djinn, GS2 was great but imagine my face when i got to a point of no return and then read there was a djinn in some forest i hadn't found.
I remember picking this game up in my local game store for $20 my freshman year. I have to say it was some of the best 20 bucks I spent for a game. Turning that game on for the first time blew me away, and Golden Sun has been one of my favorite JRPG series ever since. Also enjoy typing in the Gold code for TLA. #GoldenSun4When
I just realized that Breath of the Wilds puzzles pretty much work like Golden Suns in 3D. YOu have a spell to move things and one to create Ice pillars on top of water.
I first got the golden sun game for Christmas one year, with my first game boy advance. I was ecstatic. It was the first time I didn't have what I grew up calling poor Christmas. I had asked for a hand me down game boy color so I was beyond words. I only tried golden sun because it was a gift but I was instantly hooked. I can still vividly remember exploring Vale, the starting town while I was walking around outside. We'd had a bad ice storm and it was bright enough outside but not inside. The screen was hard to see on those back then. And I remember not even feeling the cold. I was lost in the lore of that game for many many years. Great series. I'm awaiting a fourth title one day.
Camelot made a very clever decision when they chose to make Weyard a virtual recreation of the real world, with regions and cultures that all have an equivalent on our own planet. RPGs depend on good world-building to make their stories compelling, and rather than making a world from scratch they decided to take the planet Earth and show it through a fantasy lens. The result is a complex but believable setting that makes the most out of the amazing geography and history of the real world. There are only a handful of games that have tried to replicate the real world like this, and most of them (Okami and Mystical Ninja 64 come to mind) only deal with Japan. Golden Sun was incredibly ambitious from a world-building perspective, even if it has very few other innovations. To this day it's still one of my favorite RPGs almost entirely because of that. ...Which is why it was so bizarre when Dark Dawn changed all of Asia and made up a bunch of new countries and races. I mean, fictional Chinese warlords and magical furries? This is why Nintendo only trusts you with sports games now, Camelot.
The absolute savagery of the end of that comment. No coming back from that one. There're reports that Dark Dawn was dreamed up while the creators were drunk at a party one night, so I think that explains everything. I also quite like fantasy re-imaginings of the real world, a game called Shadow Hearts is set in the *real world* around the time of the first World War, and it's fucking sick. Would recommend based solely on your love for Golden Sun's world.
Well, thank you for the recommendation. It would be great to see a fictional World War I story that doesn't butcher it like Wonder Woman did. I think Dark Dawn was about as good as could be expected given the premise. "Thirty years later the children of the original characters have their _own_ quest to save the world" is a pretty bankrupt idea, almost fanfiction level. I really liked a few parts of the game, especially the Indian subcontinent and the silly painted-cardboard reimagining of the first game at the beginning, but frankly after the Golden Sun rose at the end of The Lost Age there was nowhere for this story to go. The game also suffered from being really easy, not that I ever went to Golden Sun for challenge. The first encounter that gave me any trouble was the Ancient Devil, which is a _bonus_ boss that you fight after the game is over. I didn't even sweat during the *final boss* encounter, and that's not bragging; it's just a really easy fight. I bought it used for eight bucks, and it was totally worth that. And you can still get Djinn and watch people cooking yogurt chicken, so thumbs up all the way.
I was obsessed with this game and its sequel as a kid. I'm still waiting for a true sequel, the DS one doesn't count. Even when replaying GS1 and 2 today they're still so charming and comfy.
I like how you can look into any oven and see what the townsfolk are cooking. This is one of very few 2D games I can think of that passes MrBtongue's "What do they eat?" test.
Absolutely. The attention to detail was really, for me the mind reading was impressive. They really went through the effort to give every NPC a hidden dialogue that sometimes gives you sidequests or loot you wouldn't have found otherwise.
Speaking of "Power Bread", Golden Sun also had great flavor text for items. Power Bread, Lucky Pepper, Mint; I love the upgrades you get in these games.
This is a really great video. It'll seem like weird things to pull out of a video with lots of funny lines, but the visual presentation is really clean and you actually used music as an aid rather just tossing in 6 tracks back to back to fill in the silence. Don't really have much to add that other people haven't already said, but The Lost Age really rounds out the experience and I reckon it'll knock your socks off.
Thanks for the kind words! I actually just chuck music tracks in as backing noise, with little care for what they are, but I try to make sure they're not too busy and that they 'fit' a mood, so to speak. I think most of the time it is just me filling silence, but I get really lucky. The Lost Age video is coming together, and I'm super happy with it so far. I hope it doesn't disappoint!
Ninja and Samurai classes make it absolutely worth mixing the Djinn; their powers are ridonkulously strong. You'll definitely enjoy The Lost Age, as it is bigger and better in every way imaginable. The only thing I didn't like about it was that you cannot revisit the areas from the first game :(
Yeah, I'm going to push the system to its limits in The Lost Age, and hope I don't steam-roll the poor bosses. That 260-character code is going to fucking kill me though.
It actually took me a number of tries to beat Saturos at the top of the first lighthouse, but when I finally did, I managed to do so with three out of four party members still standing. You can probably guess which character didn’t make it to the end of the battle though.
Brilliant video! You've summed up so easily the charm and mechanics of Golden Sun in a way that'll hopefully get more people interested in the franchise.
This and lost age are so strongly connected, they're like parts 1 and 2 of a 2 part tv show, it's odd seeing someone review GS1 without playing Lost Age
I really wanted to play them both to completion and release the videos on the same day, or one a day after the other. With a holiday to Japan, I was already behind a single-release video schedule, but I was always going to keep the "Golden Sun from the perspective of not haivng played the sequel". I think that's an interesting take.
I once found the game in the closet of my cousin. I played just 10 minutes and after that I begged him to lend the game to me. After that a legacy began. It was one of the best games I've ever played in my life. And then the second part came out and I almost cried when finishing it. Never played the third part tho, since I've never got a 3ds till Pokeom X&Y came out.
Golden Sun was my first traditional RPG that I finished, and I like how it's getting some new love still. Mixing your Djinn is way better in The Lost Age since you get a larger pool, and if you end up with a really trash pool of Djinn for your 4th character they have class change items that reward having all types of Djinn on one person. The Lost Age really feels like the second half of Golden Sun. The story is nice to see from the other side, especially what's happening with Jenna and Kraden AKA the main reasons Issac started his quest in the first place. It's quite cool seeing how Issac operates when he's an actual character. His party gets a pretty nice reputation in story if I remember. The final boss theme is possibly even more rad than Saturos' battle theme, which is a certified banger.
MY DUDE. Loved the video. Play the second game. Asap. It's my favourite video game series of all time. The second is just. So magical. It's so unique. Each area feels so new. Fantastic world building.
I'm currently prepping a separate video, but once that's mostly done, The Lost Age begins! The password system is intimidating, but I just gotta suck it up and put the time in.
+Casp Ah yes. Entering passwords was a nightmare. I think I ended up entering the silver one because I think it still has all the djinn? But for its time, porting your save over to the second game must've been amazing.
I’m replaying the first Golden Sun right now so was excited to see your video in my recommended box! Still my favourite series of all time and hoping that rumour about Isaac in the new Smash is true. Really awesome video. I’ve never heard of Beyond the Beyond until this but will definitely be checking it out 👍🏼
Pros: Puzzles, soundtrack, design. Cons: Too much pointless dialogue, weak story. If they had shortened the mind numbing dialogue scenes and got to the point of whatever was happening and if the story was more intriguing instead of go here for this magical item to open a dungeon to another magical item. It would have been a much better series of games. Because of the puzzles and brilliant music it definitely belongs on a top 10 rpg list. But probably on the lower half of that list because of the poor story.
There was no way I was gonna miss this video. Great video, looking forward to your thoughts on The Lost Age as i never could finish the game. 😊 #IvanDidNothingWrong
Golden Sun is one of my favorite games of all time. It is unbelievably good and this was a great video. I'm glad people are still experiencing it today since it has become sort of a niche game as of late. Can't wait for the TLA video. :]
Fine video sir. GS has always been a personal favorite of mine. Not a a fan of the low difficulty, or the convoluted nature of Djinn and summons, but the sense of world exploration and discovery is second to none. And the game is so high quality overall. Just a pleasure to play through. I look forward to your follow up.
By far and away this is my favorite Gameboy game and likely my top rpg of all the ones I've played. The music is spectacular and I just enjoy the simple thrill of adventure in the game. I'm glad to see some rekindled interest in the series and I can only hope that one day we'll get another entry. Or like some other commenters have stated at least a character in smash or some other shared property. Or maybe they could just release updated version of these game for the switch idk that might just be me.
I was completely BLOWN AWAY by this game. I had no idea that something as epic as this would be possible on the Gameboy Advance. I still get goosebumps every time I hear the battle music.
I played through both gba carts and I enjoyed them. A bit text heavy at times but great games in general. I especially liked the puzzle aspect of the dungeons.
One of the first RPGs I ever played, and it was a darn good one! Going back now, I'm not a huge fan of the whole silent protagonist thing, and the other characters constantly asking said protagonist yes/no questions.
@@Caspicum , yeah. I observed that too. People praised it so much I had high expectations for it. But when I finished playing it 2 weeks ago in my 2DS XL, I'm just scratching my head, what's so great about it? I didn't get the chance to play it as a kid so there was no nostalgia factor for me. Just logical observation and comparison to Golden Sun.
They're two different kinds of games, but I just don't like 3D Zelda at all, and Ocarina of Time was the beginning of it all. The more I play 3D Zelda, the less I like it.
@@Caspicum really appreciated this video my man expect the views to go up on your video here I'm sharing it on my channel and so are many other smash tubers
@@Caspicum vergeben is a credible leaker and has been making hints at the next characters to be added in smash. He hinted at golden sun 2 days ago on a smash board explaining to people that are uninformed about the series to sharpen up the idea of what it means to Nintendo and how important it is and based off that people are speculating that Isaac is on his way very soon. Sakurai posted a picture on twitter recently hinting at the golden sun series to do everyone is anticipating his arrival 👌.
Yeah! I did a bit of research and discovered that! There're so many great videos out there on Golden Sun by many talented UA-camrs, so the fact that my video fostered any attention at all is mind-blowing. I appreciate it greatly, and despite not being a Smash player myself, I sincerely hope you guys get the Golden Sun representation you deserve!
"The available synergy is dictated by a couple odd looking colored folk who you own and have unrestricted access to their services without remuneration" I see what you did there...
I think you're going to very much enjoy The Lost Age. There's two or three huge plot twists, and they're all absolutely stellar and turn the story on its head.
The overworld sprite for the dungeon is a little on the nose. This dungeon is infamous for how *long* it can take... like, think of the longest dungeon in Golden Sun and then double it.
"do a bit of cardio and you're golden, son" top notch line.
I want to be the king of a casually-written script. I got a long way to go, but that "golden, son" part cemented my goals.
first time I have came across this channel, and I wanted to come comment about that line. Absolutely beautiful line
I came to the comment section to write this, beat me to it :D

Interested to see what you think of TLA. Difficulty is higher, although the narrative is a bit more focused on the overall than the where you are now, but only a little bit. It’s also only optional in direction around the middle of the game, and has some optional dungeons towards the far end.
You totally need to use the data send feature though! Please don’t miss that in your play through, it’s super neat stuff!
Anyway. Looking forward to it!
260 characters... Here we go... *please fucking kill me*
For reals though, I'm so pumped to see what they've got in store for me with The Lost Age. I AM PREPARED!
Casp yeah sorry about that 😂 things I’m passionate about tend to leave me rambling! Thanks for the reply, I’m pumped too!
That 260 characters wasn't about your comment! It was about the password system! I love rambly comments!
Every now and then UA-cam spits out another Golden Sun review video. Kickass
Some mistakes were made, but overall I think it's an *okay* video. It's passable. The memes date it a bit too hard.
I'll be keeping an eye out for your thoughts on it
9:25 WAIT! Frost works when the door is closed? hahahah never knew this, nice minor detail! Thanks for the video!
YEAH! It's pretty rad, hey.
Wait it did, every time i closed it by accident i had to go back and go in again *CRAP*
This game is truly awesome
This is the thing about casp, puts the effort in and makes his content worth waiting for. Geniune and very few aussies I can appreciate for the entertainment provided. Good Job.
I appreciate that, my man.
@@Caspicum your welcome casp. In my opinion as told on discord I still reckon you should give dnd warriors of the eternal sun a look you won't be disappointed, the music as well was developed by Frank kelpaci can't spell he did all the Command and Conquer games till red alert 2.
Everyone here wants this to come back. It should come back.
Dude, you're gonna love TLA. Can't wait for that video to drop.
I'm a fair chunk in to it now. *THE WAIT IS ON*
If you play and 100% the first game, when you start the second game make sure to transfer all your progress so later when your new team meets the old team, your old team will retain all their stuff from the first game.
Uhh, Isaac in Smash? Great vid though. it's nice to see people enjoying the series for the first time even in 2018.
A lot of people talking about GS recently. I hope it keeps picking up recognition enough for Nintendo/Camelot to decide to finally do something with it again.
That'd be rad. I just don't want to buy a Switch to play it. 3DS pls.
You're in for a treat with The Lost Age!
This was a nice video, good job man, UA-cam suggestions worked for once
Everybody gets one.
Here's a thought. A new Golden Sun game with breath of the wild rune style psynergy.
Getting it right now. Heard nothing but great things about this game.
Hope you have a great time with it!
This has always been my favorite RPG
I hope so!
That was one of the most satisfying GS wanks ever. I'm so satisfied.
Yeah, it's not like me to be so positive, but here we are.
I never finished Golden Sun but it was one of my favorite games ad the time.
Quality taste. It's not about ending the journey, it's about enjoying the time you spent!
We need Isaac in Smash 6 and Golden Sun 4
With any luck, he'll be a playable characters eventually!
When are you doing The Lost Age? Any confirmation of a release of that yet?
Nah, they still haven't found it.
Golden Sun was one of my favorite RPGs
It's definitely an experience I won't forget any time soon.
Great video. I get that everyone wont like the humor,
But I do :)
This game was and still is amazing.
@@Caspicum welp it's right up my alley in humor so consider yourself subbed!
Golden sun is a gem
Appreciate ya, babe.
To be honest, I don't remember the dialogue sequences in GS to be too bad, but that's likely because of the dialogue sequence in TLA when you're in Lemuria... it just goes on and on and on... :'(
So far, TLA is way worse, which is unfortunate. They just KEEP TALKING. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
To be honest, I still prefer TLA over GS1 despite the ridiculous amounts of dialogue. Jenna (and definitely not Sheba) are nowhere near as awesome as Ivan and Mia, but the gameplay and expanded content and world more than make up for it (in my opinion) ^^;
Liked and subscribed, will you cover Lost Age and Dark Dawn too?
They're coming next! Thanks for asking!
After playing Trails, it’s difficult for me to go back to Golden Sun, despite really enjoying it when I played it.
Trails? Like Trails in the Sky? Man, I can not stand that game!!!!!!!!!! See how hard I'm exclaiming this? That means I'm serious!
It's one of the best written JRPGs I've ever played!!!
#IsaacForSmash
Beautiful game. They should make the sequel already!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
YEAH! WHERE"S GOLDEN SUN 4 AT!?!?
Thank you for pronouncing “Psynergy” correctly. So many people call it “sin-ergy” when it’s suppose to be “sye-nergy”
For example how do you pronounce Psyduck or Psychic? Yeah that’s what I thought.
I think people assume it's a play on words. Like, it's Psychic energy, but I originally saw it as "Synergy" with a P at the front. Also synergy rolls off the tongue way better, I can see a lot of people preferring to say it like that for pure convenience/laziness. When in doubt, I always check the Japanese pronunciation because that's a lot more literal. It seems they only call it エナジー which is just "energy".
GOOD ONE JAPAN.
What bothers me is the unusual (to me) pronunciation of Isaac’s name. I prefer Eye-zic to Eye-zack. It just sounds awkward to me.
"The characterization is great"
"Mia is a great character."
How so and how so?
I think my point about characterisation was a point that the entire game, big boys, NPCs, etc. all have a fairly unique feel to them, especially when compared to other JRPGs. Since you can read their minds for critical info, they were free to do whatever they wanted with the dialogue, and it's far more interesting than other games.
The Mia bit was a joke tho fam. I mean, can a character be good if you can't even see their feet?
“Ragnarock is isaacs strongest move”
You need to give ronin or master class a shot and try out death leap and quick strike that shit is redic
I should've, you're right.
Ayyy the Digimon-guy with the sperm avatar uploaded
I actually wrote what I thought the sequels to dark dawn should be. here's a summary.
the kids are transported to a world NOT with psynergy but with texts like the necronomicon that give them magic and different powers and there ways gonna be an epic quest to reunite this world with Weyard and two other worlds one that is Cyber punk esque and another with a major hold on Christian esque religion and in order for the world to be whole you needed the four aspects of knowledge alchemy, Religion, Science, and magic or something sorry its been a while since I had been on Reddit but it was an idea for at least 3 more games
10 outta 10!!!
CAN I GET AN 11?
What's the game on 6:32?
Breath of Fire 4!
@@Caspicum Thank you!
What sucks is that golden sun 3 dropped the ball and thus made Nintendo enraged with the franchise, and as a result, no more GS games
Golden Sun practically raised me.
I have no regrets.
You should review lufia 2
I should!
second game is better as the world of Weyard opens up and you truly see the world building masterpiece that it is with all it's continents and locales feeling like real world places. hurry and finish it, am intrested to ehar your take on the second game. I prefer the sequels characters as well. full of mystery.
CAN'T WAIT! HYYYYYYYYYYYPE!
Lost age was kinda open worldish and alot harder if I remembere
right
Sounds great!
I love dialogue sounds in 1 and 2 but they sucked in Dark Dawn
Oh yeah, they're fantastic. I haven't played Dark Dawn properly yet, but if they're different, I will be devastated.
Casp I'm new to your channel but what do you think about etrian Odyssey V.
I love the EO series and 5 was pretty neat. The simplification of the skill system irked me, but other than that, it was a great experience!
Casp I'm currently on the first floor, I'm enjoying so far.
I hope Isaac gets into smash so the series can get some interest back in it! We need more Golden Sun! #IsaacforSmash
The last thing we need is another bloody sword user. Cut the entire Fire Emblem cast and put Isaac in.
Isaac for Smaaaaash! And, as a plus, Isaac as a playable character on SSB would serve as the perfect PA for another Golden Sun game.
Golden Sun for The Switch!?!?!
We can only pray!
It has happened by now

The writing in this video is pretty damn crisp. I did a double-take when you said "So do a bunch of cardio, and you're golden, son!" and the "odd-looking colored folk" line was spot-on.
Did a swell job.

Gets a book from Japan. Is amazed and / or disappointed that its in Japanese. Cmon Casp. XD
They should just speak English, tbh.
Hey coaltergeist I love your remastering of the OST for these games, thanks so much for doing that
Glad I checked this reply, because I was complaining about GBA compression ruining the OST, but you've gone and done it my ghost dude. you absolute mad man.
Casp Maybe we will hear proper remixes if Isaac gets in Smash Ultimate?
Thanks, glad you liked it. As for the ost, I think specific tracks (mainly the battle themes) stand out as incredible. However, I think the sequel is where the ost truly begins to shine (no pun intended). Tundaria Tower, Ankhol Ruins, Mars Lighthouse, and countless other town/dungeon themes will knock your socks off with his wonderful prog rock style. Looking forward to part 2!
Coupla things you cold've mentioned:
- You can save ANYWHERE (not common in Jrpgs)
- The ballin mini-games
- You can set Djinns outside of battle so you can use your Summons immediately
- Every character has their own inventory
- The Battle Arena outside of the main game.

260 characters.
The absolute mad lads.
But gs3 is shit
Yah it wasn't the best game in the series, but it'll be cool to see what more they could do with light and dark psynergy. If it ever happens.
Same here, I instantly blown away!
Please review the 3rd. It's a shit sequel
If you look into the right ovens, you'll get power bread or something like that. That might have just been TLA but I don't think so...
I'm waiting 2 for a remake and a true sequel. dark dawn was very disappointing
@@Caspicum lmao don't tell me that. Looking forward to it!
That 260-character code is going to fucking kill me though.
you have no idea lol
vba link is your friend
i had both Isaac and Garet as Ninja and Samurai. It is incredibly OP.
It actually took me a number of tries to beat Saturos at the top of the first lighthouse, but when I finally did, I managed to do so with three out of four party members still standing. You can probably guess which character didn’t make it to the end of the battle though.
I couldn't even begin to fathom just who died in that fight :^)
Brilliant video! You've summed up so easily the charm and mechanics of Golden Sun in a way that'll hopefully get more people interested in the franchise.

I appreciate it, my man. If any of my videos encourage even one person to check the game out, then I'm beyond chuffed. Thanks for the comment.
God the GBA just had so many fucking good games. Fire emblem, Metroid, Advance Wars, Golden Sun
Advance Wars is a goodie. I've been wanting to try Famicom Wars and Super Famicom wars to compare the two.
Mega Man Battle Network 2 and 3 (the first one is skippable, and 3 is generally regarded as the best).
@@Caspicum Advance Wars 2 was a masterpiece
Ivan was my favorite character xD he's where I got my nickname from
No way, Ive used Ivan as my RPG game name for the last 17 years for the same reason :P
9:41- 9:45 "A couple of odd-lookin' colored folk that you own"
Phrasing, yo.
I’m replaying the first Golden Sun right now so was excited to see your video in my recommended box! Still my favourite series of all time and hoping that rumour about Isaac in the new Smash is true. Really awesome video. I’ve never heard of Beyond the Beyond until this but will definitely be checking it out 👍🏼
If you do check out Beyond the Beyond, know that I apologised in advance, and wish you a far better time than I had. Thanks for the comment!
Lost Age is a step up in just about every regard, as they were able to polish and expand on so many things, can't wait for the video.
Me either!
Golden Sun 1 and 2 *wipes tears a little* Two of my favorite games of all time ;_;
**GOOD TASTE**
Pros: Puzzles, soundtrack, design.
Cons: Too much pointless dialogue, weak story.
If they had shortened the mind numbing dialogue scenes and got to the point of whatever was happening and if the story was more intriguing instead of go here for this magical item to open a dungeon to another magical item. It would have been a much better series of games.
Because of the puzzles and brilliant music it definitely belongs on a top 10 rpg list. But probably on the lower half of that list because of the poor story.
This video convinced me to hunt down a copy of this game.
You: "You can get Mia before you do the tree thing."
Me: "You can do the tree thing without Mia?"
The beauty of a slight deviation from strict linearity. Unique takes on great games.
There was no way I was gonna miss this video. Great video, looking forward to your thoughts on The Lost Age as i never could finish the game. 😊
#IvanDidNothingWrong
I will fight you on this. Ivan must pay for his crimes of existing!
You're in for a treat with The Lost Age. You find out some stuff that just makes things click.
I sincerely hope so!
Golden Sun is one of my favorite games of all time. It is unbelievably good and this was a great video. I'm glad people are still experiencing it today since it has become sort of a niche game as of late. Can't wait for the TLA video. :]
Thanks for the comment! Hopefully the potential Smash leaks sees an uptick in attention. It definitely deserves it.
Yeah, it's got a couple rough edges, but that adds to the charm if it's not over-reaching. Thanks for the comment!
I don't even think it needs an update. It's fine the way it is. Now, The Lost Age on the other hand...
Try to find a comment where the commenter doesn’t have a anime profile pic 🤢
Way V dammit you’re right xD
I don't know how I missed this, but by far, best comment on this video.
Golden sun was the first game I ever played and im glad it was my first game because its a timeless classic that has great replay ability.
Going back now, I'm not a huge fan of the whole silent protagonist thing, and the other characters constantly asking said protagonist yes/no questions.
good game
The GBA had a lot of great RPGs, but this is definitely at the top of the pile.
*Unpopular Opinion:* Golden Sun is better than Ocarina of Time.
Unpopular opinion: Ocarina of Time isn't even good at all.
I’ve never really been a big Zelda guy in general, apart from the Oracle games, so agreed.
Camelot should stop making f*cking Mario games. Its too many Mario sports -_-
truuuuuuuuuuue that.
Vergeben brought me here #isaacforsmash
Come through to the channel I discuss all things smash
I've seen that name mentioned, but I still don't know what it is! Good luck with Isaac for smash though!
@@Caspicum really appreciated this video my man expect the views to go up on your video here I'm sharing it on my channel and so are many other smash tubers
@@Caspicum really Appreciated your video my man. Expect the views to go up I and many other smash tubers will be sharing this right now. 👍
I appreciate it greatly, and despite not being a Smash player myself, I sincerely hope you guys get the Golden Sun representation you deserve!
i wanted games like this on the 3ds. but companies were to busy making etrian odyssey 15
Yeah, I think the series peaked at Etrian Odyssey 14.
"The available synergy is dictated by a couple odd looking colored folk who you own and have unrestricted access to their services without remuneration"
I see what you did there...
This is how we avoid demonetization in current year.
I think you're going to very much enjoy The Lost Age. There's two or three huge plot twists, and they're all absolutely stellar and turn the story on its head.
Hope you enjoy/enjoyed Air's Rock. Out of all the dungeons in The Lost Age, that's the only one I will never forget.
If it's anything like Ayer's Rock, I probably won't because that's just a giant sand formation or some gay shit.
Hopefully it's BETTER!
The overworld sprite for the dungeon is a little on the nose. This dungeon is infamous for how *long* it can take... like, think of the longest dungeon in Golden Sun and then double it.
imo all the other rocks are longer, but I also speedrun the game :P
I'll never forget the Mars rock because of the music there. I can still remember it
