- Beach metal detecting at Santa Monica Beach. Challenged to a Metal Detect OFF using the Minelab Vanquish 540. Who won the challenge?
Went to detect at the beach and I was challenged to see who could get net the best results. Someone had a very difficult time with the sand scoops but still may have pulled it off.

Christine wins with her first ring. Congrats!!! on the Extreme Scoop lower the motus handle to get better control when shaking, and use a pinpointer if the sand is wet and heavy. Great job guys. So much fun👍😎

It's all fun having a little contest in all of our hunt's, but our friendship in what counts in our hunts.

Woman sure make our hobby a whole lot better. I've tried countless times to get my dear wife to hunt with me . My wife is very funny , I know it would be awsome to have her dig holes . Christine wins, but the giant scoop for her is a no no, and that offset scoop that you are using seems a little awkward, but if it work for you, then that is okay, Christine should be using a small 5ft alum beach scoop, just sayin.

Second, drag your scoop behind you so you know where you have been and it's easier to grid. Third, you have totally convinced me that my scoop is perfect and I do not need the hulking scoop you started with. Thank you, you helped me avoid a costly mistake. Thanks! 1. I'm not really keen on wearing shoes in the sand. Any recommendations? 2. I'll definitely try to remember that. and 3. The scoop is kinda awkward, it ended up being a two handed shake out, and then I gave up and started dumping the sand out, because it seemed more strenuous for the long term use...
That’s a great idea to drag the scoop behind you for gridding. I’ve never gotten to do a full grid yet as all the areas that I wind up detecting are so full of rocks that it’s impossible for me to dig into them.
No helping friends to help me.
I need different friends that like to metal detect, magnet fishing and cleaning up the earth one small area at a time.

I love the sand between my toes too. Although you can get cut on a shell 🐚 a hook 🪝 or something else. The possibilities are endless. If people were cleaner then we wouldn’t have to be concerned about cutting our feet 🦶 or hands 🙌.

My experience in the sand is that you can pick up an iron particle clump in the sand. Sounds good but disappears when you dig. If you have a relatively good detector you can discriminate passed these clumps. Some beaches have more iron in the sand than others, some areas of the beaches have more iron than others. Hope that is helpful.

I'm going to give her to her on account of the awesome ring. But, if you all are recycling bottle caps, it might be worth counting them. When you get a ton and a half, you can put them in a blue can.

Hi, great hunt. You might want to try a short handle and scoop. Its a one handed use and doesn't get beeped by your detector. Lighter and faster. The long handle scoop you are using is great if you are in the water where the water does the work for you instead of shaking. Myself and my wife use the short handle scoops in the dry sand and wet. The overall recovery speed will make it worth it, especially for Christine since she struggles with both your long handle scoops. I linked the Amazon listing for the short handle scoop we use.

Spread sand out after getting target into scoop. Then use a pinpointer. Will save you time.

From what I see others doing you might try moving the T handle closer to the scoop for better control

I have a coin scoop awesome tool. Try moving the handle closer to the scoop will stop the twist a bit 👍🇨🇦🍻
Do a very shallow scoop on the first one. Many times a recent drop will be just pushed along in front on a deep first scoop.

What is the long handle and the clamp on handles? I have the same scoop but I'm still looking for the long handle.
It seems most standard broom stick are too thin....
We are going back a bit with this video...that scoop was from Royal Manufacturing and it came with the attached handle. My current favorites are the CKG and the Xtreme scoops. CKG is lower priced and you can pick what handles you want. I use the carbon fiber and it comes in 2 sections which is nice because it breaks down for easy travel or storage.

Just because you "CAN" take full scoop of sand when you dig it doesn't mean that you "HAVE TO" take a full scoop of sand each time !!
