This movie was so expensive that despite running over 100 days in many centres it is considered a financial failure by its makers as they could not recover its investment then. This was told by Sridhar himself in an interview in later years.

Chitralaya Gopu too has spoken about this. See, just because a movie ran 100 days it doesn't mean the producer makes money. Many times it is the distributor who makes more money. Because of cost over runs, they managed to sell it to distributors, who probably made more money. There are instances of many movies where producers sell the movie for a nominal profit, and distributors reap anything from 2X to 4X profits, owing to its unexpected success. Also it needs to be seen as to what terms the overflow amount was signed. In those days, many distributors did not declare proper overflow accounts.
